Chapter 9
Author's Note: The sections between the ** ** are memories/dreams.
I enter the warehouse. No matter what a full vampire must rest when the sun reaches its peak for it drains them of their strength and powers. So right now there is no security. I walk in to what must be the central room. Veronica is lying on a large table like thing made out of stone. I move quickly to her side and pick her up and run out of the building. As soon as the sun hits her face she wakes up and starts to fight me. "Put me down." She pounds me with her fists. I get her in to the van Mornick let me borrow. I slam the door behind me.
"Look girl the people you are playing with are dangerous and they are killers. Now you sit still I am taking you some where so you can see their handy work." I say. "Or else." I say taking out my gun.
"You are her aren't you, the one the master wants." She says as I get up front and drive the van to the morgue. "You do know he does think of nothing but you day in and day out."
"I am not happy about it." I say. "My name is Victoria. I was hired by your father to find you and bring you back. Then my mission is to destroy the master and his lair."
"My father does not care he just wants it for show." She says coming up front with me.
"I spent only a few weeks with him but he seems pretty cool." I say looking over. "Hey if this is about your mother I can tell you I know the feeling. I lost both my parents early."
"Really, when?" She asks her curiosity peaked.
"When I was ten. They died in a car crash." I say not wanting to say anymore. We arrive at our destination. I jump out and let her out. We walk in. "Dr. Morgan knows we are coming." I say to the receptionist. She hands us badges that say Visitors and lets us in. We walk down a flight of stairs and meet a man wearing a white lab coat with brown hair and green eyes. "Hey Jack. How have you been?" I ask hugging him.
"Fine. Hey long time no see. So when are you coming back?" He asks.
"I still have some personal stuff to work out first." I say. He leads us to a room with two tables with white sheets over bodies and lets us in and leaves us alone.
"What did he mean by that?" Veronica asks.
"I use to work for the police department here." I say. "Now this is what they do to their victims." I say whipping the sheets off one of the bodies. The face was tore up because of the clawing the vampire did. "And this is another." I say doing the same to the other body. The throat was torn right out. Veronica almost threw up. "This is what you would be doing every night for eternity if you let them have you."
"Oh my god. I did not know about this." She says.
"That is the game they play. They get people like you and the dangle this like babble in front of your eyes. No death, never growing old. But when they trap you that is it, it is to late to turn back for you are already in their web and like a fly you can not escape it." I cover up the bodies. "I am sorry you had to see that. But that was the only way I knew how to get you back to your senses. I have had to see this every day of life for the past two years and I have seen young girls like you lured into the web to be devoured by the spiders a lot. Lets go. I know of a safe place." I say and we leave. On the way to my apartment we continue talking about her mothers death and how she found these people and we continued with my story. We arrive at the apartment building and enter. We get to my apartment and I open the door. "There is a bed there you can get some rest." I say putting my bag down and I sit down in a chair and let out a sigh of exhaust.
"When was the last time you got a good nights sleep?" She asks still standing.
"What decade is this?" I ask. "I get some hours here and there during the day." I say.
"Let me fix you some tea. It will help you sleep." She says walking over to the kitchen.
"It is in the bottom cover at the right." I tell her. I listen to her prepare the tea and she comes in and hands me the cup. "Thank you." She walks over to the bed and lies down. I drink the floral tea. I put the cup down close my eyes and fall asleep and think about the night my parent died.

"That really was a nice party wasn't it honey?" My father asked as we drove down the deserted street.
"Yes it was daddy." I said from the back seat of our car. My father was driving and my mother was in the passenger seat.
"I am sorry you could not stay over night but you have to return to school tomorrow morning." My mother said. I went to a school for young ladies that was out of the state we lived in.
"That is ok mommy. I can not wait to go back to school and be with my friends again." I said.
"See honey I told you she would not mind. She wants to get back to school." My father said. We drove some more and I started to get very tired. I awoke when my mother screamed and my father was swerving out of the way of a truck. The last thing I remember saying was my screams mixing with my mothers then darkness.

Veronica watches Victoria sleep for a few minutes. The drug worked she is out. She looks out the window. Sunset is near. She picks up the phone and dials a number. "Moric. It is done. Yes. It is 1615 S. Mortina, apartment 316." She hangs up the phone and sits on the bed to wait. Sunset comes and twenty minutes after a soft knock comes to the door. She gets off the bed and walks to the door and looks out the peephole. She opens the door. Moric and two other vampires come in.
"Very good Veronica. The master will be pleased with your work." Moric says looking at the sleeping girl. "I have never seen her up close like this. Only the other night when she was full of the blood of the kill on her. But now I know why he wants her." He says.
"I understand to. She is so much like me. She lost her parents when she was only ten." She says.
"Let us get her to the master." Moric says walking over to Victoria and picking her up as if she weighs only a feather. "Torch the building." He says to the other two and they go to work.
"Why are you doing that?" Veronica asks following Moric out of the apartment.
"The master wants the man who has been training her for the past few weeks to come for her. He has some unfinished business with him." They exit the building and enter an awaiting car. Veronica looks back at the building just in time to see it go up in smokes.
"I have never seen a building go up so fast." She says.
"They were fire fighters before they became vampires. So they know how to set fires and also know how to make them look like it was the wiring the stared it." Moric says. Veronica looks at the girl in his arms. She starts to feel sick to her stomach, on the way to the apartment they got to know each other and started a bond like sisters but now she feels like she has broken that bond forever.
