Chapter Nine
After explaining the situation with Anya to the guys, begging his brother to take care of his drum kit, and convincing Rick that he had to leave because of a real emergency, Adrian helped Anya into a cab. She immediately laid her head in his lap and closed her eyes.
“Adrian?”
“Yeah baby?” Adrian had one arm around her stomach, holding her securely and the other was toying with her curls.
“Thank you for taking care of me.” She said softly. There were tears pricking her eyes and she squeezed them tightly to stop the tears from escaping.
“Don’t thank me.” After witnessing the interaction with Bryan there was no place he would rather have been; not even with the rest of the band talking to the record executive. He did hope, however, that the guys understood why he had to leave. He’d tell them more later if he had to.
“I’m sorry I ruined your night. You should be celebrating.” Anya sighed. “You guys were amazing. It was the best.”
“I’m glad you liked it” Adrian told her sincerely. “It felt good.”
“There was a girl in the bathroom talking about how she wanted to fuck you.” Anya’s voice had taken on a sleepy tone.
“Umm.” Adrian wasn’t sure how to respond to that.
“You’ll have to get used to pretty girls throwing themselves at you.” Anya shifted so she could stare up at him. “You’re gonna be so famous.”
“I don’t care about those girls.” Adrian brushed a few stray curls off of her face. Their eyes were locked and even though Anya’s were full of sadness he saw something flicker in them at his words.
“You don’t?” She asked in almost a whisper.
“Nope.” Adrian shook his head. “I’m perfectly happy with what I’ve got.”
“Oh.” Anya’s eyes were wide. “Good.” She sighed again and closed her eyes. Adrian did the same. It had been a long, strange night for both of them. “Adrian?”
“Yeah, baby?”
“I still have your ring on.” Anya yawned.
“I know.”
“Oh.”
*
Anya felt a sense of relief wash over her when they were finally inside of Adrian’s apartment. She went into the bathroom while Adrian searched out the aspirin. Anya stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her eye make-up was smudged, and she looked like the night had taken it’s toll on her. She turned on the water and began washing her face.
Adrian knocked on the door. “Baby, are you okay?”
“Yeah, just give me a second.” Anya said quickly. She wondered if Adrian realized how many times he had called her Baby that night. Her count was at nine. He usually called her that when he was concerned about her. Anya splashed her face again. She’d really ruined everyone’s night tonight. She should never have gotten so drunk. Anya dried her face and exited the bathroom.
Adrian was sitting on the couch waiting for her. Anya sat down next to him and gratefully accepted the glass of water and aspirin that he was offering her.
“I’m really sorry Adrian, I know this was such an important night for you.” Anya said seriously. “You always take such good care of me.”
“It’s my job.” Adrian shrugged it off. He reached for her and Anya eagerly went into his arms, resting her head against his chest.
“No it’s not, but thanks anyway.” Anya felt the tears returning to her eyes. She would have been emotional anyway but the drinking just made it worse.
“Come on baby, don’t cry.” Adrian sighed. There was nothing worse than seeing Anya cry; it broke his heart.
“I’m sorry.” She sniffled, clinging tighter to him. “I don’t know what’s the matter with me right now.”
“Let’s just go to bed, okay? You’ll feel better in the morning.” Adrian stood up and took her hand, leading her into his room. They had shared a bed together countless times but this time felt different to the both of them. Adrian wordlessly tossed her one of the tee-shirts that she loved to sleep in. He pulled off his shirt and carelessly dropped it onto the floor. Anya blushed and looked away. Turning her back to him because she wasn’t wearing a bra, Anya pulled her top off and quickly pulled on the shirt. Next she slid her skirt off and folded it neatly. Adrian was already in his boxers and was pulling back the blankets on his bed. He had to fight hard with himself not to watch her as she changed.
Anya got into bed after him and Adrian pulled her into his arms. He dropped a kiss onto her forehead. “Good-night baby.”
“Night Adrian.”

Adrian woke sometime around dawn. He was laying on his side with Anya spooned up in front of him. She was sound asleep, completely unaware that she was grinding her hips back against his. Even in his half sleep half awakened state, Adrian knew the effect that she was having on him. He was hard and pressing against her soft bottom. One of arms was underneath Anya’s head but the other… had somehow found it’s way under her shirt and was now cupping one of her full breasts. Anya moaned in her sleep, pressing back against him again, mumbling his name, and Adrian groaned. He knew he should pull away from her but he didn’t want to. She smelled so good; he could smell her Gardenia conditioner and perfume even through she’d spent hours in the smoky club. And she felt so good in his arms; it felt so right to be holding her like this. Adrian closed his eyes and pulled her closer, kissing the back of her neck. Anya moaned again. Soon, he was fast asleep again.
*
Anya woke up in an empty bed with a splitting headache. Easing into a sitting position she looked around Adrian’s room. It was a mess, as usual. Clothing all over the floor. She sighed and closed her eyes. She was glad he wasn’t there at the moment. She was feeling like a complete train wreck and knew she probably looked like one as well. She ran a hand through her messy curls trying to tame them. Getting out of the bed, Anya found her neat pile of clothes on the floor next to her. Anya quickly pulled on the skirt, opting not to change out of Adrian’s shirt. She went to his closet to find a hoodie; she had little desire to ride the train home with just her coat covering her party attire. Anya listened carefully and she could hear the shower running. It was only 9, most likely it was Adrian in there. Anya looked around the room, finding a note pad and a pen she sat down on the bed to write him a note.
Dre,
Thank you so much for taking care of me last night. I know you said it’s not a big deal but it meant a lot to me. I’m going home to get cleaned up and I’m sure Kendra’s freaking out about the mess in the apartment. Call me later, k?
Thanks again for being the best friend a girl could ever ask for. XO- Anya.
Ps- If you’re wondering where you’re yellow hoodie is… it always looked better on me!
Writing him a note was pretty cowardly, Anya realized. She really did want to talk to him, but she wasn’t sure she could do it at that moment. Especially not after the hot dream she just had about him…Her cheeks were burning just thinking about it. Nope. She was going to go home, make herself presentable, apologize profusely to Kendra for being a complete drag, and then, MAYBE she’d be ready to talk about what was happening between them.
