A new home, a new year

Chapter 8
A new home, a new year

My grandfather never spoke of that horrible night again, I was glad for that. I never wanted to see those people again, if I could help it. The days past and spring neared ever so slowly, I spent every full moon during the seemingly long winter curled with my grandfather by the fire.

I leave the relatively quite sanctuary of my room and head to the kitchen, I said relatively because of the fact my stomach is screaming at me right now.

I dove into the fridge and pulled out all sorts of things for a sandwich, making it; I replace the contents back into the fridge, and then head for the study.

Sitting down on a chair in front of the fire I pick up my book and emirs myself into the stories there. Today is going relatively slow, it is snowing heavily and my grandfather is gone for the day.

I can hear Misty upstairs chasing those mice around the attic, laughing quietly I then return to my reading.

Once the book and the sandwich have been completed, I then head back up stairs, as I start to ascend the stairway I am stopped by a popping sound.

Smiling I turn around and jump into the arms of my grandfather, the force of the impact caused he and I to go tumbling to the ground. But rather than being upset granddad starts to laugh, “Man Nathan, I didn’t know you missed me that much!” I hear him say between laughs.

We sat there on the floor both laughing like idiots, and then managed to catch our breath. Granddad picked me up and carried me to bed, laying me down granddad slipped the covers over me. Kissing me on the head granddad left so I could get some rest, you see last night was the full moon and I was still somewhat weak and tired.

Slipping into a peaceful sleep, I began once again to dream.
{Dream state}

I was once again in the from of the wolf, but something was wrong. Looking over to the nearest ridge, I saw him, a hunter with a silver arrow aimed right at my heart.

My eyes wide with fear I turn to run, but hear the arrow streaming right at me. I dodged right in time and the arrow pierces my shoulder, crying out in pain I fell to the ground.

I turned my head and using my mouth pulled the arrow out of my shoulder, the pain was so bad, my shoulder throbbed from where the arrow had lodged it’s self.

Struggling to my feet before the hunter could get another shot in, I run as fast as my injured shoulder would allow. I start to slow as my head is becoming dizzy from the blood loss and the pain. Unable to go any farther, I collapse on the ground.

I lay there whining to weak to even lift my head, I can hear the crunching of the snow; as the hunter gets closer to were I lay. I can see him somewhat through my blurred eyes, he lifts the cross bow and aims it strait at my heart.

I start to shiver as I can hear him pulling the trigger.

Spring up in bed, my heart is pounding and I am drenched in sweat. “Grandfather!” I scream, the door to my room opens and he is standing there. I start shaking badly; my grandfather takes me in his arms and tries desperately to calm me.

After sometime I finally calm and drift back to sleep, I can feel my granddad gentle rocking me and whispering soothing words in my ear. Sighing contentedly, I listen to his heartbeat, as mine starts to even out.

Since that night the terrible dream has not returned, I am thankful for that because the lack of sleep was starting to get to me. The days continued on as they all do and soon summer will be upon us once again, I was working with the flame horses in the pasture when I heard my granddad calling for me.

Returning into the house I saw my granddad sitting at the table, he didn’t look very happy about something so I decided not to ask. Finishing my lunch I silence, I then headed up to my room, might as well study my magic books that granddad bought me.

You see I want to be ready for school, when I received my letter.
