“I forgot how big the place was,” I said wondering at the log mansion glowing in front of us.

“Shall we enter, it appears we are the first to arrive, even with our romp through the woods,” Gabriel said offering me his arm.

We made our way to the beautiful maple door that was the threshold to Ms. Guaran’s den. I giggled when I thought of the implications of the word ‘den’, Gabriel shot me a glance.

“What is so amusing love?” he asked with confusion.

“Oh nothing, I was just thinking.”

“I’m telling you now to be very careful how you act here Bronwyn. Werewolves are not known for showing emotion.” As soon as the words left Gabriel’s mouth the door was flung wide open and out came Canly Guaran, who pounced on me and gave me a big hug and a kiss.

“Oh my god! This beautiful woman standing in front of me can’t be the little Bronwyn Auchmuty who helped me weed and plant my garden!” she said with a big grin.

“Well it’s me Ms. Guaran,” I said a little taken aback by her welcome.

“Oh please Bronwyn, call me Canly. We’re practically family,” She says taking a step back and looking at Gabriel.

“Well young man, I sure hope you know the basket of snakes you opened up.”

“I know ma’am, but I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Gabriel said putting his arm around me.

“I see. Well, let’s not stand here with the door open. Come in you two, you’re early. Bronwyn come and help me in the kitchen. Gabriel, why don’t you help Peter out back with the tables and chairs.”

“Peter is here?” I asked excited.

“You know Peter?” Gabriel asked with a worried look on his face.

“Don’t worry Gabriel. He’s no one who’ll compete for Bronwyn’s attention,” Canly said with a shake of her head,

“He’s like my big brother. He protected me while I was growing up. Is he out back?” I asked.

Canly nodded her head. I gave Gabriel a kiss on the cheek and told him I’d be right back. I made my way to the kitchen and crept out the back door. Sure enough there was Peter setting up folding chairs. His back was to me so I started to creep up on him.

“Whoever you are don’t try it. I’ll break you like a twig,” He said when I was about six feet from him.

“Did you actually ever really break someone like a twig?” I asked; he whirled around in surprise.

“Bronwyn! Is that you?”

“Last time I checked. How are you Pete?” I said with a smile.

“My god, look at you! You’re all grown up.” He said giving me a big hug.

“So I’ve been told,” I answered when he put me down. Peter was a tall red head with broad shoulders and could melt any girl’s heart, but he’d always been like a brother to me.

“Ah, so mom knows you’re here.”

“She met us at the door.”

“Us? Who else was with you?”

“I was and am,” Gabriel’s voice rumbled from the kitchen door.

“Gabriel! What in the hell are you doing here?” Peter snarled.

“Calm down Peter, Gabriel and I are engaged,” I said making sure to stay between them.

“Engaged! You and…but you’re only eighteen!” He stammered.

“We’re each other’s match Peter. Gabriel found me and turned me.”

“He turned you!” Peter screamed.

“Yell a little louder Peter, I don’t think the people in the next county heard you,” Gabriel said.

“You’re not helping,” I sighed.

“Bronwyn, are sure you love him?” Peter asked.

“Yes Pete, I’m sure.”

“Okay, but let me tell you something Gabriel,” he said looking Gabriel in the eyes. “If she has so much as gets a little sad, you’re answering to me.”

“And let me tell you something Pete,” I said, “If you so much as think about fighting my battles I’ll lay you out so fast you won’t know what hit you.”

Peter looked at me and laughed.

“You can’t take me out Bronwyn. You never could.”

“Try me,” I said with a glint in my eye.

“Don’t you two start, the rest of the council and the pack will be here soon,” Canly said from the kitchen door.

“Bronwyn, get in here and help me finish the cookies. Peter can you and Gabriel stop flexing your muscles for one second and get the chairs and whatnot set up?” she asked exasperated.

“Yes ma’am,” they both answered together.

“Good, then get to work. Come on dear, I’m making your favorite, chocolate chip.”
