Kessie and Connor
Chapter Eight: Kessie and Connor
It was shortly after Connor was born, and he and Kessie became best of friends. Kessie loved to play with the four month old, but was always ready to bring her brother to either Mommy Raquella or Mama Lucilla and set him down in front of him.
“He needs a diaper change.” She would say through her pinched nostrils. Raq and Lucy thought that it was cute, and would always giggle when Kessie brought Connor to them for a diaper change, or as Kessie normally called it, a ‘dieper chan.’
Raquella ’s job at the garage got worse and worse, and she wasn’t enjoying it, working with her ex-boyfriend and her wife’s ex-boyfriend.
One day, Mark and Greg overheard Raquella showing pictures of Kessie and Connor to Charlie as any proud mother would.
“Charlie, this is Connor... isn’t he getting big?”
“Hey Raq...” Mark said, walking over to her, Greg close behind, “What do you have there?”
“Pictures of my children.” Raquella said.
“Really? You have children?” Mark said, happily.
“Can we see the pictures?” Greg said.
Raquella hesitated for a moment before she handed them the pictures, “Just for a moment...” Raquella showed them Connor’s latest picture, one of him in a little suit, from the Yule party about two months back they attended. “This is our youngest, Connor.” Raq smiled, and showed another picture of Kessie, “And this is our older girl, Kessie.”
Greg nodded and asked one of the stupidest things, “Who is your husband?”
It took Raquella and Charlie a good ten minutes before they could talk, they were laughing so hard. Tony chuckled, not knowing what the joke was.
Greg got annoyed, “Was it that Karl at the party?”
That got Charlie and Raquella to laugh even harder. Finally, Charlie managed to speak. “Boys, she’s married to a women, and that Karl is gay. She lives in a gay neighbor hood.”
Mark thought for a moment, “that’s why I thought that party was strange... it was full of gay and lesbian couples and their children...WHAT? RAQUELLA’S GAY?”
“Glad you could join us on the real world numb-nuts...” Greg said.
“Bi-sexual, actually guys.” Raquella said.
“Okay, let me rephrase what I asked, ‘Who are you married to?’” Greg said again.
“She’s married to that woman Lucilla that comes in and drops her off and picks her up sometimes.”
Raquella put the pictures back into her wallet.
Mark and Greg’s jaws hit the floor.
“So, how is it you can have children if you are married to a women?” Greg said.
“I’d just like to see ‘em kiss... I don’t care how they reproduce...” Mark said, and instantly got hit by Greg.
“We have science on our side, thank you.” Raquella said, putting the wallet into her purse. Greg looked down quickly.
“You mean in-vitro?” Mark asked.
“Yes, and if you excuse me, I have to return to work.”

Later, at the hotel room, Greg and Mark talked.
“Did you see that picture of that little girl?” Greg said, “She has my eyes...that’s my daughter.”
Mark wasn’t listening to him. “Dude, that Karl guy left with Matt... and they had kids, and the two women left and they had kids, and the other two guys left the party and THEY had kids...”
Greg threw a pillow at Mark. “Pay attention!”
“Yeah, so, she looks a little like you!” Mark said, proving that he was listening to Greg, “But how do you know she’s yours?” He lay on his bed on his side of the hotel room.
“She is about the age...” Greg said, sitting up from his bed, “Think about it man, how long ago did those girls break up with us?”
“About four years ago?” Mark wasn’t quiet sure.
“Right, and about how old is that little girl?”
“Probably three...three and a half at most.” Mark said, then thought about it.
“Exactly.”
“Oh, Shit, Shit...” Greg said, sitting up, “You have a daughter and you didn’t know it.”
“Yeah?” Mark said, laying back on his bed, “What about that little boy?”
“Nah, dude, he couldn’t possibly be mine... he’s way too young.”
“No? You have been donating to the ‘Little Hopes of Heaven,’ place haven’t you? When Raquella threw those pictures into her purse, I saw the business card in her purse. That is were they went to get the sploog to become pregnant. He is yours.”
“Yeah, there is a possibility that the little guy is mine...but I signed a wavier, I have no parental rights whatsoever, and if your name isn’t on the birth certificate, neither do you, might I add.”
“I am going to get my daughter...if it kills me.” Greg said, thinking.
“But...”
“Shut up and listen in Greg, here’s the deal...”
