Last Month

Disclaimer: You have three guesses to figure out what it is. :D

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`````````
I decided one important thing the next day: I would make this supposedly last month the best ever. And if it wasn\'t, hey, all for the better. But what kept nagging at my mind was that perhaps Rion had overheard my brief conversation with the interviewer. I tried to tell myself that it could all turn out okay either way, but I still didn\'t feel very confident...
Anyway, I was going to make this a great month by doing different things including: romantic sunset visits, hiking (Nerdy, yes, but everyone in this mountainy area likes it. Even Rion), and, y\'know, sometimes it. Ahem.
I kind of acted like I was preparing for the end of the world or someone\'s death or something else really major.
One of these incidents occured when I heard Rion\'s voice on the answering machine...I ran to get the phone, but the message was over by then. I frantically picked up the phone...aw, shit. It was dead. I guess that\'s what you get for not paying the bills. Acting as if I was turning to face the Alien queen, I looked at my daily calender. Only the fifth! But I realized I had forgotten to update it. Today was the sixth. Damn.
One of the sunset trips didn\'t exactly turn out right. Right when it was about to go down, the most romantic part, a group of hobo-ish fishermen climbed out of a van. For some reason, it was spray-painted to say \'Fuck me.\' Eep. Anyway, they - there were about seven of them - came up with their grimy fishing rods, right in front of Rion and I, therefore blocking out the view. I felt like going up to punch them, but we just left instead of resorting to violent acts.
One of the hiking trips was also ruined pretty badly. Rion and I had been enjoying a perfectly fine, crisp hike, but then a damn bear appeared! It was huge, and coming straight toward us. I looked back and realized that we had come between her and her cubs.
\"Climb that tree!\" I hissed, hoping the bears couldn\'t reach us there. So we wound up sitting feebly on the branches of a thick tree, watching the mother bear claw at it while trying to get to us, until our absence was finally noticed and help arrived.
So, the \'best month ever\' wasn\'t exactly rolling smoothly down the road. By the twenty-fifth, I was panicking. The interview could be appearing on the news any time now. After all, the interviewer had said it would air in ABOUT A MONTH, not exactly a month.
~~
Five days later, the dreaded interview appeared on the news. I cringed all the way through it, realizing the dumb things I had said. No, wait. They weren\'t dumb...I had gotten drunk before the interview happened! That was the dumb part.
I was walking along a rather crowded street when I spotted Rion in the midst of the crowd (He doesn\'t exactly camoflauge well, but he was STILL walking around like he was looking for attention! Arrgh!), so I tried to casually fall behind...but he saw me. He walked over and said, \"So. The feedbag is full. Do you have what you want yet?\"
\"I didn\'t say any of that on purpose!\" I protested.
\"No, of course not. Lucifer was just controlling your mind with his devilish powers.\"
\"Can\'t we just forget about the things I said when I was drunk?\" I cried in frustration.
\"Oh, really...?\" Rion looked surprised. \"You were? That makes it even worse. You\'re underage, for God\'s sake!\"
\"I know...I\'m sor -\" But I never had the chance to finish speaking. He just turned on his heel and walked away without another word. I didn\'t know what to do...but then I saw her. You know, his ex.
\"I know what you can do,\" she said slyly.
\"And what\'s that? Let you give it a shot again?\"
\"No! Find the best time, and say you\'re sorry. It seems simple and stupid, but it\'s the only chance you\'ve got.\"
\"Okay...\" I said weakly, \"Thank you.\" And I just walked away, since that little conversation could never change the fact that I hated her.
~~
And so I waited until the next Bloody Moor concert. It was a couple cities away, but I was willing to drive all the way there...which was obviously what I did, numbskull. It was the usual mindless heavy metal and crazed fans (Bodyguards were literally lining the stage), but there was something unusual. Rion was nowhere to be found. When the band finally came offstage, bodyguards near, I asked Markus where the hell Rion was, and he reported, \"I dunno. He\'s been seeming a bit out of sorts lately, so we agreed with him that he should probably miss out on this one.\"
\"Okay. Thanks!\" I said, and darted away.
~~
When I got home, I picked up the phone with shaking hands. I dialed Rion\'s number. Answer it I pleaded in my mind, Just answer it. Well, my wish came true.
\"Oh. It\'s you.\" Rion said as soon as he picked it up. I supposed he had the \'Caller ID\' feature.
\"Yes...I just wanted to say...I\'m really sorry. And...and...\"
\"Listen, I really don\'t want to talk to you right -\" He started to speak, but I cut him off.
\"Fine. But please listen before you hang up.\"
\"What?\"
\"I...I love you. I always have.\"
