Chapter

Dea
Trivan: The Third Piece
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “No!” I screamed as I bolted
awake. My clothes clung to my body with
sweat; my auburn hair was matted to my head.
I took a deep breath as the dream began to fade.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Shaking my head I threw the covers off and
slowly got out of bed, “This has not been my day.” I said, brushing my hair out
of my face. The phone rang causing me
to jump. Fumbling with the receiver I
managed to get it to my ear, “Hello.” I mumbled.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “Vik mistal, tovan nivan.” A strange
voice said over the line.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “Who is this?style="mso-spacerun: yes"> What are you saying?” I asked, scowling at
the words spoken.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> A click told me that the person had
hung up, “I wish that people would answer me.” I sighed and hung up the phone,
“I really wish that people would explain things to me, or at least speak a
language that I could understand.” I said with a quiet laugh, “Oh well.”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> Shaking my head I got in the shower
to clean up. I felt filthy, dirty and
that dream didn’t help. With the water
pouring over my head I closed my eyes I tipped my head up into the flow of
water. Washing my hair I finished my
shower. As I turned the water off and
began to dry myself the phone rang.
Tripping over my towel I reached for the phone.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “Hello.” I managed to say as the
phone reached my ear.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “Do you want to know the truth about
this world?”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> I scowled, “Listen, I don’t know who
you are or what you want but I do know the truth about this world, I know about
the other two creatures here. There’s
nothing you can tell me that I don’t already know.” I spat, “So you and your
strange friends can just leave me alone.” I said angrily.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “I do know things that you do not,
for instance, there isn’t only two other races, there is a third.” He said
softly.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> I shook ead,ead, “I don’t know what
you’re talking about and you know what, I don’t really care.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Just leave me alone.”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “I’m afraid that I can’t do that,
you are the Marivan, the third piece, the tovan nivan.” He said softly.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “I know as much as I care to and I
don’t care what you say I am, I’m a human just like most of the population on
this world.” I growled, “I suggest you leave me alone before I find you and
turn my blade on you.” I said, getting ready to hang up the phone.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “It doesn’t matter how much you try
to deny what you are it will find you in the end. Goodbye Dea, I hope that you are wise enough to realize your
folly.” He said before hanging up.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> I slammed the receiver down and
finished drying off, “Who the hell does he think he is?style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I really need to find out so I can kill
him.” As I said those words a shot of pain went through my head, causing me to
fall to my knees, “Leave me alone!” I shouted, “Leave me alone!” This had
happened before, more than once actually.
Images bombarded my senses.
Images much like my dreams but it was a waking dream, painful.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I screamed as the pain grew.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I couldn’t take it anymore, “Please, don’t
do this!” I screamed again.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> As I screamed my boyfriend rushed
in. I had been expecting him to come so
that we could go to a movie. He pulled
me against him and rocked me back and forth, “Dea, hush.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> It’s ok.” He whispered.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> I shook my head and screamed again,
“Please make it stop!” I cried, “Please.” I sobbed.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “I wish I could.” He whispered,
“When this fit is over I’m taking you to a doctor.” He said softly.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> Taking a deep breath it finally
ended, “I’m ok.” I said, my voice quiet and calm, “I don’t need to go see a
doctor.”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “Yes you do.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> This is the third time this week.” He said,
helping me to my feet, “Let’s get you dressed.” He said with a smile.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> I scowled but went along with him
anyway. Digging through my closet I
threw on an oversized sweatshirt and a pair of pants. Slipping on my tennis shoes I crossed my arms over my chest,
“Alright, if I have to go then I have to go.”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> He smiled, “Come on.” He said,
offering me his arm.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> I took it and together we left my
apartment. Placing me in the passenger
seat he got behind the wheel. We didn’t
talk as he drove me to the hospital. I
wasn’t very happy with the situation that he had placed me in.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I couldn’t stand it, I was going nuts, I had
to be.
dreams? They did a cat scan, blood
tests, everything tcoulcould think of.
They found nothing; I was perfectly normal and healthy.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Together we left, I think that the doctors
thought I was nuts but they didn’t stop me from leaving.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “Tidus, I told you that I was fine.”
I spat as he drove me home, “I don’t think I want to go to a movie now.” I said
softly, “I think I just want to stay home, my head still hurts a little.”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “Alright Dea, anything you want.” He
said as we pulled into my driveway.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> As he turned off the car I noticed
someone standing in front of my door.
This person was wearing a black cloak with the hood pulled up to cover
his face. The sun was just setting as I
got out of the car.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “Who are you?” I shouted as I walked
toward him. Tidus followed close
behind, “Answer me damn it!”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> As the sun sank behind the hills he
pulled the hood of his cloak back. It
looked like my deceased brother, except his deep red hair was a lot longer and
his eyes were a brilliant green, instead of my brother’s deep blue.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He smiled at me, “Hello Marivan.” He
whispered as I approached.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> I scowled, “I’m sorry but I don’t
know what you’re talking about.” I said softly, “I suggest that you leave.” I
said, narrowing my eyes in contempt.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> He shook his head, “I’m sorry but I
cannot do that,” He paused, “Dea.”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “So, you know my name.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I still don’t care, I don’t know you.”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “Why don’t you just leave her
alone? What does she have to do with
anything?” Tidus asked from behind me.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “The human speaks, your guardian no
doubt.”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “My boyfriend.” I spat.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “It matters not.” He said with a
wave of his hand, “I haven’t come for him, only for you.”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> I laughed at him, “What makes you
think that I’m going with you?” I asked, shielding Tidus so that he could call
the police.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> Without warning his hand shot out
and, pushing me aside, he grabbed the phone from Tidus.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Crushing it easily in his hand, he spoke,
“You will go with me, I don’t care in what state.” He smiled, “The gods gave me
explicit directions and I will not deny their will.” He held out his hand to
me, “Either you come with me willingly or I take you by force.” He said,
offering me his hand, “It’s your choice Dea.”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> I backed away from him to give
myself some room; “You’ll have to take me by force.” I growled, readying myself
for his assault.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> He stood there and laughed.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Finally he walked toward me, “Very well.” He
said softly as he stood before me.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> I narrowed my eyes and threw a
punch. With no effort he stepped out of
the way and grabbed my arm. Pulling me
hard he pressed my back against his chest.
His breath danced across my throat and I could feel him smile, “Get your
hands off her.” Tidus shouted as he ran toward us.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> His eyes narrowed, throwing Tidus
back by an invisible force. He hit the
wall with a sickening crack. His body
went limp as he slid down the siding of the apartment complex.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I let out a cry of surprise and fear as I
struggled to get to him. My captor
laughed softly and released me. I
stumbled forward as he let me go.
Running over to Tidus I pulled him against me. Quickly I checked for a pulse, it was steady and strong.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> He was still alive, just unconscious.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “You bastard.” I growled, gently
laying Tidus to the side, “How dare you!” I spat, getting to my feet and
turning to face him.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> He chuckled softly and bowed his
head, “Don’t worry about him, you should be more worried about yourself.”
Balling my hands into fists I rushed him, ignoring better judgment, which told
me to run away, in the process. He
didn’t dodge the first punch; heowedowed me to hit him full force in the
gut. It didn’t faze him; he just stood
there and laughed, “Hit me again if you would like, you can’t hurt me.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Take your anger out on me for what I did to
that boy, it matters not.” He said with a shrug, “Soon I shall take you to the
gods and they shall tell me how to deal with you. I am their personal messenger, I am the one who sees the lord and
lady, and am I the one who shall deliver you.” I hit him again and again.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> Slowly I began to tire, the energy that I
once had was being expended quickly.
Finally I fell to my knees, breathing heavily, completely exhausted,
“Are you quite finished? Your boyfriend
shall awaken in time, I’m sure someone will find him. We must depart now before someone sees us.” He said, picking me
up and throwing me over his shoulder, “Why don’t you take a nap?style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I won’t harm you, the gods would not be
pleased if I did that.”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> My eyes grew heavy and I fell into
darkness. I didn’t want to sleep, I
wanted escape, but something pulled me down.
When I awakened I was laying on a hard surface in an apparently door
less room. My body ached and as I
looked around I figured out why. My
arms were securely fastened above my head and my legs were together at the base
of the table. I couldn’t move, as my
muscles were pulled taut.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> The man who had abducted me walked
toward me, “I see that you’re awake.” He said softly.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “Who are you?” I asked softly.
style='mso-tab-count:1'> He made a short bow, “I am Aya.” He
smiled at me sweetly, “Don’t worry Dea, you’ll be safe here until the gods
inform me of what they wish for me to do with you. My orders were merely to bring and keep you here.” He shrugged,
“I do as I’m told.”
style='mso-tab-count:1'> “What is your purpose, what is it
that you do?”
He sat
down and propped his feet up, “I am a messenger for the gods.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I’m their direct link to this world, to the
lord and lady. I was chosen by them to
be their voice.” He said, closing his eyes and leaning back in his chair, “I
already know what your next question is so I’ll just answer it now.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> You want to know what I am.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I am a vampire of sorts.style="mso-spacerun: yes"> I was blessed with the power of the gods,
just as the lord and lady were. But in my case my powers far outweigh
theirs. You saw a small ounce of my
power when I threw your boy toy against that wall. Unlike others who use magic I do not have to chant to cast my
spells, I can do it with a thought.”
“What is
my role in all this?” I asked softly, “There has to be a reason you brought me
here.”
“Ah yes,
your purpose in all of this.” He sighed, “Your lineage is what brings you into
this. Your ancestors were the victims
of a curse. This curse would not
manifest itself until the time was right.
You see, your life is merely a façade, it isn’t real.” He paused, “You
have but one purpose in this world and that is to die.” He laughed softly, “But
isn’t that everyone’s purpose in the long run?”
I shook
my head, “I know that I shall die eventually but I have a lot to live for.” I
said, my voice quiet, “I have many years ahead of me.”
“That is
not for me to decide.” Slowly he got to his feet, “I’ll be back later.” He
said, running his fingertips down my cheek, “Get some sleep.”
