Seven

I managed to get ahold of him 6 days later. At 6:06PM no less. Well, at least this demon had a sense of humor.

He said he would meet me, alone, at Vinces house the next day at 3:00PM. No catches, no one else, no means of escape should things go badly. He gave me his word that I would return home unharmed. But what good is the word of a demon when all he's known is pain.

I stayed up all night working on runes and sigils on myself to keep him from doing anything to me. I even went to far as to carve Ur into the skin of my leg, against the bone to strengthen it. But when I walked in the door he washed them all away with a glance. Only the one remained, but it paled to a dull scar, looking old and faded. He was more powerful than anything I had dealt with before.

"So you want to talk some reason into me. Tell me to go away. Let Vince have his terrible, pained little life back. I don't think you realize what he's been going through. You want him to be happy? Well I have taken away his pain! He doesn't have to deal with any of you anymore. He doesn't have to walk the path alone, without her, now. I have given him the best thing he could ask for right now."

I stared into his eyes for a minute. They were cold, hard; red, and gold. It was the gold that made them startling somehow. It seemed that, on some level, this demon had always been present in Vince's life, and the red suited him well. But the gold… the gold was not right.

So I decided to test a theory.

"Well what if we humans, being what we are, are selfish little things. We whine, we cry, we hurt, and we take what we want and not care what it means to others. What if I decided that I didn't want to deal with your pathetic works of magick and your weak, meager power that you show off like a trophy? You're barely a third rate demon, yet you act like there's nothing better than you. Well I think its getting a little annoying." I stared back into his eyes, leaving no room for weakness, only challenge.

He fell right into the trap I had set for him.

The red and gold eyes flickered and darkened, all traces of gold flickering out, though not without a fight. He was angry. When a demon was angry, they gained more power. When the gold flickered out, that proved that it wasn't part of him.

The gold in the eyes was Vince.

That gave me hope.

But it also gave me an angry demon to deal with.

((hey, I just wanted to thank anyone who does for reading this, it means a lot to me that anyone does. I'm not going to beg and plead, but it only takes a moment to review... I can't get any better without reviews to tell me what to stop doing or what to start doing or what to -keep- doing! Thanks again; AJI))
