Part Twelve
“I guess you guys are sleeping here tonight. It looks nice enough.”
“You’re not staying?” Rain glanced over at the Goddess.
“No, I have to go back to Heaven for a bit. You guys have fun.”
She disappeared instantly.
“It might look nice but considering it’s us...” Big Kitty sighed as he led the group to the door.
He knocked on it and waited. Suddenly, a door opened below them and they fell through.

Steve groaned as he came to. He glanced around and noticed An-chan lying on top of him. She was still unconscious. He sat up slowly and picked her up as he stood. He saw a long table with many chairs and sat her at one of them. He sat next to her and sighed.
“What’s going on?”
“Oh! You’re early!” A man with a top hat appeared before him sat across from his seat.
“Who are you?”
“Mad Hatter.”
“We have guests?” Another man dressed as a mouse blinked sleepily as he sat next to Mad Hatter and fell asleep.
“It appears so.” A clock chimed.
“Are you the owner of this place?”
“Yes I am.”
“Have you seen anymore...guests?”
“No, can’t say I have.” He started to pour some tea.
“Oh no! I’m late!” A man dressed as a rabbit ran to the seat next to Mad Hatter.
“Always late, Rabbit.”
“Sorry.” He toyed with the tablecloth. “But it wasn’t my fault! I found some people.”
“There they are.” Rain sat next to CrimsonMoon and Big Kitty sat next to An-chan. “Aw! You don’t wanna sit next to me!?”
“Of course I don’t.”
“Meanie.” Rain pouted.
“I guess you guys need a place to spend the night?” Mad Hatter sipped his tea.
“If you wouldn’t mind, yes.”
“Not a problem! We’ll show you where you can stay after teatime!”

Steve placed An-chan on her bed and sat on the edge. He couldn’t just leave her. If she just woke up suddenly through the night, she might get scared. He would never, ever, admit it out loud but the Feline was growing on him. He moved a few bangs from her face. She annoyed him most days but who else could he trust?
“Steve?” An-chan opened her eyes and sat up slowly. “What happened?”
“Nothing important. Go back to sleep, we’re staying the night.” He moved to get up but she grabbed his arm and stopped him.
“Please stay. I’m scared.” Her ears folded back to her head.
“Fine.” How could he say no?
He stretched out on his back and she curled into his side, draping an arm across his waist. He hesitated slightly before resting a hand on her arm.

Nicole stretched her four white wings as she flew home. She smiled as she entered, hoping to see Kayn. But he wasn’t there. She sighed before going into the kitchen and starting on dinner. She hadn’t been home in so long. He must have felt her presence when she appeared in this realm...so where was he? She closed her eyes and couldn’t feel him at all.
“He must be on the upper level.”
“Hey! You’re back!”
Nicole turned to smile at her best friend, Emmett. His hair was short and dirty blond, a shade darker than her own. His eyes were hazel. He wore his usual white dress shirt with the top buttons undone to reveal a dark blue t-shirt underneath, black dress pants, and black running shoes. He was the God of Courage and lived on the third level like she did.
Gods and Goddesses with the same amount of wings lived on the same level. They were forbidden to go to higher levels but could go anywhere below them. There were six levels in total with only one person living in the first level, the ruler of them all. Any God or Goddess could lose or gain wings except for the ruler, the creator of everything. Only the most trusted Gods and Goddesses lived in the second level. Kayn was one of them but due to his marriage with Nicole, he lived in the third.
“Yeah, it’s hard to stay on Earth for a long time.”
“Then come home more often. I miss you.” Emmett leaned against the counter and watched her work.
“I miss you too.” She sighed. “Hey, do you know where Kayn is?”
“No, he’s been up there for a while now. I think they’re getting all edgy about what going on on Earth.”
“Well they shouldn’t be! I chose the best, damnit!”
“I know, I know. But they’re not gonna calm down until the threat is gone.”
“Yeah.” She continued to glare at the soup boiling on the stove.
