When The Levee Breaks
Within the span of two days, James or Roger never called or came over. Both days, Renee had Carter to come over and sing Tiny Tim songs. Carter's Tiny Tim impersonations or Rachel's Led Zeppelin or Tiny Tim records didn't even bring a smile to Rachel's face.
"I don't know what to do with her. She just sits there, staring at that Led Zeppelin painting and drinking her Earl Grey Tea." Renee whispered.
"Give her time. She's got to snap out of it sooner or later." Carter said, softly. Gwen Stefani's 'Four in the Morning' started to play over the radio. Carter and Renee watched as fresh tears flooded Rachel's eyes. She looked at the picture that sat on the small table beside the chair.
It was of James, Roger and Rachel on Roger's last birthday. Rachel was setting on the picnic table while Roger and James sat on the bench in front of her. They were telling every joke imaginable. Renee had laughed so hard that she had started crying.
Rachel's gaze was glued to the picture. She felt her heart break over and over again. Every room had some kind of memory that was tied to James and Roger. Every song had a new meaning. Every sight, scent and action was now different somehow.
"God, I miss those two daft wankers so much." Rachel said.
"We know." Renee told her.
"Renee, promise me that you won't make the same mistakes I've made. I want you to learn from my mistakes but I don't want you to repeat them." Rachel looked at Renee with red, tear stained eyes.
"I promise." Renee said.
