“He’ll be back… we’ve been together too long for him not to come back.” Shawn tried to convince himself. And then, I'll tell him ... What? That I didn't get it? I didn't know he felt the same? I'm not sure he does.

They’d been together for almost a year, and they’d had arguments before… they always made up. He lay there staring into space and going over the events of the morning.

Yeah it all happened before noon.

Feeling miserable and sorry for himself; but refusing to give in to tears, Shawn dragged himself out of the bed. He slipped into a pair of jeans and shrugged into a shirt, leaving it unbuttoned to walk around the house aimlessly. He passed the telephone hesitating before moving past it.

“I’m not calling him!” Shawn grumbled. Not being a big TV person, Shawn grabbed the remote for his stereo and hit the power button, immediately flooding the room with the rich tones of Macy Gray. He then set about cleaning up the dishes from last night’s dinner, reminders of the candlelit dinner they’d shared.

In the background Macy crooned: I try to say goodbye and I choke… I try to walk away and I stumble! Though, I try to hide it, it's clear… My world crumbles when you are not near…

“Screw you Macy!” Shawn changed the radio station abruptly. He picked up the phone and then put it back down with a sigh. "I'll give him time to cool off."

I'm looking at you through the glass… Don't know how much time has passed… oh god it feels like forever…. But no one ever tells you that, forever feels like home,

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Shawn yelled stalking over to snatch up the remote once again and flipped off the radio. But not before the last strain of the song echoed over the room. Sitting all alone inside your head…

"All right!! I get it, Jay was right, we need to talk."It seemed the entire world knew what had happened in the apartment today, and they all pointed accusing fingers straight at him.

“Fine… I’ll call him, now.” Shawn murmured, and picked up the phone, he dialed the familiar number and waited. No one answered… finally the answering machine picked up and Jay’s voice crackled to life in his ear.

“Leave a message after the beep, maybe I’ll call you back.”

“It’s me…” Shawn began, then hung up. “I’ll try your cell.”

Again, there was no answer.

Either he is ignoring me… or the phone is switched off.

Shawn sighed, Jay had never refused to take his calls. Beginning to get angry again, he grabbed Mike’s hard lemonade from the fridge and skulked off to his room. "Asshole!" Shawn muttered.

Shawn flung himself onto the bed, turned on the TV and cracked open the drink. He scanned the channels looking for something interesting to watch; but with all that had happened he was emotionally drained.

Jay, did love me... He'd almost came out and even said so... Even if it was yelled at the top of his voice. I was just so scared of what he'd say that I.. I.. hurt him before he could hurt me.

"I just wish it hadn't came out THEN!" Shawn murmured blushing with the memory. He stared blankly at the TV screen and felt like crying. That, when coupled with the fact and that he had gotten up way earlier than he was used to, it would come as no surprise that he was soon fast asleep and hugging his pillow.

He woke up the trill of the telephone, Shawn jerked the phone to his ear.

"Jay? I'm sorry!" He gushed.

"Who's Jay?" His mother's voice asked. "And why are you sorry?"

"Just a friend of mine mom.." Shawn sat up and ran a shaky hand through his hair. "I said something stupid and fucked up our friendship."

"Now Shawn!! You know how your father and I feel about that kind of language!" She chided completely glossing over the pain of his potentially ended friendship.

"Sorry..." Shawn rolled his eyes. "Now what do you want?"
