Chapter 8: Doctor visit
I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sorry it took me nearly 2 years to update this story. I tried the school thing, going to college and then getting screwed over by the frigging school. (NEVER TRUST THE UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX. THEY ARE SCAMMERS!!!) Anyway I would like to thank everyone for their encouragement and their reviews. It really means a lot to me. I wanna thank my pony ^_^ nette for helping me to finally get through this chapter. (and I am sorry if this chapter is boring)
I do not own the magazines or the soap opera mentioned in this chapter. They belong to someone else. I gathered information about STDs from searching through websites. If you have any of the symptoms mentioned in this chapter it would be wise for you to see a doctor and get treated.
After stepping through the door and coming face to face with mother, I stood dumbfounded not knowing what to say or do. This was not good. She must have been here all day and night waiting for me to return. I just hope that grandpa didn't call and tell her what happened.
“The school called.” When she spoke, I could hear that she was pissed. I thought I smelled the scent of alcohol on her breath.
I knew I should have ran or something. I could feel my body activating its fight or flight reaction but I just stood there. She began to step closer to me and before I could blink, my face ached terribly. I felt the blood rushing to my cheek; I just realized I was hit. My face began to throb like there was no tomorrow. My hand drew to my face quickly and I just looked at mother.
“They told me you skipped class.”
I felt another blow to my left cheek, making me stagger back a bit. More tears fell from my eyes. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I wanted to scream out, but I couldn’t. I wouldn’t. What would be the point? No one would care or come to my rescue. And I knew she wouldn't stop.
“They also said you dumped hot coffee on your teacher! What the hell did you do that for? Don’t you know you can get expelled for that! They can even arrest you for that! You’re so damn dumb Danny. You screw up everything! Everything!”
I didn’t think about the consequences of my actions. I didn’t think that I would get expelled or get arrested. For some reason I thought I would only get suspended. So I guess mother is right. I am just so damn dumb. I screwed up my family’s lives and mine. Worst of all I could be carrying one of those nasty bugs going around. I'm waiting to see the doctor to make sure I didn't catch anything.
Mother was still going on and on. “Oh, and your grandfather called and told me everything that happened! He told me you fucked another boy! A boy! A fucking boy! What the fuck is wrong with you! Wait did you fuck him or did he fuck you? Never mind, I don't even want to know. You’re a disgrace to our family, no wonder your father left us. He knew what you were and wanted to leave me. How could I give birth to...to...to you?”
She was through with smacking me and decided to give it her all. Her hand balled into a fist and began pummeling with blows to my upper body: A punch landed into my jaw, her left hook grazed my cheek and she had a mean uppercut that sent me flying backwards on my ass. I could hear mother begin to cry. She dropped to her knees and leaned forward on the floor. She stayed there crying her heart out. Through her sobs I could hear her began to speak.
“Where did I go wrong…with raising you? I did everything I could to give you a straight and normal life. Your father, I loved him with all my heart. And he left me. He left me!” She let out a long wail. “How could he do this to me? How could you do this to me?”
Mother cried and cried; Sara came down the steps and helped mother to her feet. Together they walked up the steps to mom’s room and shut the door. I started to feel bad again like I did nothing but cause her more pain. I wonder if dad hadn’t left would mom have accepted me the way that I am now. All I ever wanted to do was live my life the way I wanted and not get into any trouble. It seems that no matter what I do, I will always hurt the ones I love most. I just wish there was something I could do to get us passed this.
I picked myself off the floor and headed to my room and slept the rest of the night away. Morning came about 4 hours later. The sun shone through my window hitting me in the eyes. Unfortunately I couldn’t sleep through it. The right side of my face throbbed. I got up and went to the bathroom and my face was bruised and part of my bottom lip swelled. Recalling the events that had taken place I realized mother had gotten me better than I thought.
I could feel my insides twisting in knots. I quickly ran to the toilet and lifted up the seat. My stomach felt on fire and before I could fight the urge, my throat burned as everything I had eaten and drank spilled into the bowl. I could feel tears stinging my eyes as my body fought for control. My arms shook as I clutched the rim of the toilet. When I finally regained the ability to move, I sunk to the floor, my head resting on the cool porcelain seat. My head ached and my throat was sore. That’s when I heard a soft knock on the door.
“Danny.”
It was Sara. I couldn’t move right away, I still felt like shit. She began to turn the knob. I realized I had forgotten to lock the door but thank god that I was dressed because she decided to enter. She saw me sitting by the toilet and rushed over to me.
“Are you are right?” she asked showing slight concern.
With my voice just above a whisper I replied “Yes.” I lurched to my feet and grabbed hold of various objects for support.
“Hey Danny.”
I turned back to look at her. She was looking at me with a strange expression. This could only mean that she was going to ask me something I didn’t want to talk about.
“Did you really have sex with another guy?
I only answered with a nod.
“OMFG! I can’t believe you would go that far. Wait! Oh shit wait! OH SHIT! Were you the bitch!?! If so that’s so fucking nasty!”
I stared at her blankly. What did she mean was I the bitch? If she meant I was the bottom then yes but a bitch? Who hell did she think she was talking to?
“Who the hell do you think you are? You have no right to call me a bitch or ask me about my sex life you dumb slut! Do I ask you about the boys you fucked? All 50 of them! I bet you fucked every guy that tried to get at you!”
It seems that I have struck a nerve with that comment. Her face looked flushed and her eyes were watery. Honestly, I didn’t care if the bitch did start crying.
“Don’t you dare call me a slut! You probably slept with more guys than I have! I hope you know, you just confessed to being the bitch! You are fucking sick!”
“No! You are fucking sick prying into your brother’s love life! Just leave me the fuck alone stupid whore! ”
I was too tired to keep at it with her and my head was killing me. I left the bathroom not caring that she was still fussing. I rushed out to my room slamming the door shut. I walked over to the windows and closed the curtains making my room as dark as possible then climbing back in to bed. I pulled the covers over my head. It felt like only a short time had passed before someone came to disturb me. I grunted as someone pulled the covers from over my head. With a furious expression I yanked my blanket back. I realized it was grandma.
“I’m sorry to disturb your sleep but its time for you to get ready.”
She handed me a glass of water and two Tylenol. She must have known I would need these.
“George told me things didn’t go as he planned. He said you were pretty drunk.”
“Yeah when I woke up my head was pounding and I threw up.”
“Yeah that’s what happens when you get drunk like that.” she looked over my face seeing my swollen bottom lip and the bruise on the right side of my face. “Who did this to you? Did George do this?”
“No.
“Did you get attacked on your way home?”
“No.”
“Then tell me what happened! Oh dear!” she placed her hand up to her mouth in shock. “Did your mother do this?”
When I didn’t answer, she knew the truth. She wrapped her arms around me smiling warmly. “Things may be tough for you now but someday things will get better. I promise you that. If you ever need anything you just let me know and remember I am always here for you no matter what.”
After taking my shower and quickly getting dressed she took me to see Dr. Franklin. The drive was only twenty minutes long but it felt more like 3 hours. The suspense was killing me. I needed to know if my blood was clean or not. If its not I just don’t know what I’m going to do with myself. If it is clean I will be very happy and I will have to be extremely careful next time. Well, if there’s a next time.
Grandma pulled in to a small parking lot. The building was even smaller. Elderly people walked in and out of the building. I think she might have brought me to see her doctor. But I guess that’s okay as long as I get checked and treated. I’m keeping my fingers crossed hoping it’s nothing.
After we entered the building, grandma walked over to the receptionist and filled out all the paper work. I noticed I really was the youngest person there. There was a brown coffee table with old sports, readers digest, and soap opera magazines sprawled around. I sat down next to it and grandma sat next to me.
“It won’t be much longer now.” she said patting my knee.
Ten minutes had passed and we were still waiting on the doctor. There was nothing to do other than read those old magazines. Guess I might as well. But which one do I read? I don’t like sports nor am I into that readers digest crap. So I guess the soap mag will do. The stars from Passions were on the cover. No I never watched soap operas before but this looked a bit interesting. What could they be up to?
There was a time Ethan thought he was a Crane and had millions upon millions of dollars. He was in the hearts of every girl in the small town of Harmony. One girl in particular really fell in love with him, Teresa. Although Ethan was engaged to be married to Gwen, Teresa would not let go of being with the man she loved. She has done all sorts of wild things to get next to him.
I can’t blame her for that either. I would do anything to be with the man I love…or woman for that matter. I went on to read the next paragraph about Whitney and Chad. I thought they made a cute couple.
Chad came to harmony searching for his birth mother but he didn’t find her to some time later. He had big dreams of making it in the music business. A beautiful woman with long curly hair caught his eye. After the couple had hooked a few times, it was thought the two might be brother and sister.
“Ewww that is just gross!” that made me sick to my stomach of even thinking about touching my sisters.
“What’s wrong Danny?”
“Oh, nothing it’s just this magazine is crazy.”
“What which one are you looking at?”
“This one about soap operas.”
“Oh, keep on then. The doctor should be coming soon.”
I went back to reading.
Whitney, later found out she was pregnant. She didn’t take of herself in hopes of losing the baby. The baby was born fine but later found out it had a few problems. Whitney and Chad discovered that they weren’t brother and sister and resumed their relation. The two married and seemed to be a happy couple. Problems stirred between the two, Chad began to cheating. He cheated on his wife with another man. This man had been his nephew.
“OMG this is sick!”
When I looked up everyone was staring at me and grandma and the doctor were over by the door waiting for me. I was too caught up to even hear them calling my name. I quickly placed the book on the table and headed towards them while I tried my best to hide my embarrassment. He led us down the hall to an empty room.
The doctor didn’t seem to be past 30-34 years old. He was tall and slender with sandy brown hair cut short. He had some nice green eyes a girl could get lost into or guy for that matter. I thought he was hot. His hands were big and his nails looked manicured. He shook my hand. They felt soft and warm. I imagined his fingers sliding in and out of me. I had to stop myself from thinking this way before I get too excited. I was here to be checked not for a date.
“How are you?” he said flashing a million dollar smile.
I blushed slightly answering “Fine.”
“That’s good. Your grandmother tells me you are here for an STD test. Tell me when did you become sexually active and did you use protection at all during intercourse?”
Wow he was straight to the point, not even trying to beat around the bush. I really didn’t want to have this discussion. I thought that all I had to do was give a blood sample or DNA or something. I don’t like talking about this stuff with a stranger, no matter how hot he is.
“Danny answer him.”
“Ok… um…well….”
“Okay. Well I first had sex Sunday.”
“This past Sunday?”
“Yeah.”
“I see. Certain STDs can take up to a month to show any sign that they are even there. Those STDs would be harder discover. Gonorrhea and Chlamydia are the easiest to get a handle on. They are bacteria infections and usually show up a few days after infection. Gonorrhea symptoms for men are abnormal discharge from the penis (clear or milky at first, and then yellow, creamy, and excessive, sometimes blood-tinged), painful or frequent urination, anal itching, pain, bleeding, or discharge, sore throat and pinkeye conjunctivitis are rare. Have you had any of those symptoms yet?”
“No! Nothing like that happened!” I didn’t mean to shout my reply at the doctor but I didn’t think anything like that would happen from having sex.
“Okay now Chlamydia symptoms include painful urination or itching sensation with urination often the first symptom, cloudy urine, watery or slimy discharge from the penis, crusting on the tip of the penis, tender anus or scrotum and conjunctivitis. Have you experienced any of that?”
“No.” this time my reply was a less frantic. “What’s conjunctivitis?”
“It’s an eye infection: inflammation of the conjunctiva caused by infection, injury, or allergy. Well it’s good that you haven’t had any of those symptoms either. This next one I will talk to you about is herpes. Herpes is most easily spread when a sore is present, but, it is also often spread at other times too. Some people notice itching, tingling or other sensations before they see anything on their skin. These are called Prodromal Symptoms and they warn that a virus may be present on the skin. Herpes is most likely to be spread from the time these first symptoms are noticed until the area is completely healed and the skin looks normal again. Sexual contact, oral, vaginal, or anal is very risky during this time.”
Grandma had been quiet most of the time but she decided to ask some questions.
“Can it be passed on without signs of a symptom?”
I’m glad she thought to ask that because it didn’t cross my mind.
“Yes herpes can. Sometimes those who know they are infected spread the virus between outbreaks, when no signs or symptoms are present. This is called Asymptomatic Transmission.”
“What problems are associated with it?”
“One kind of complication involves spreading the virus from the location of an outbreak to other places on the body by touching the sore. The fingers, eyes, and other body areas can accidentally become infected in this way. Preventing self-infection is simple. Do not touch the area during an outbreak. If you do, wash your hands as soon as possible. The herpes virus is easily killed with soap and water.”
“So, since I don’t have any of those symptoms does it mean I’m clean?”
“Not exactly. HIV infection progresses in stages. These stages are based on your symptoms and the amount of the virus in your blood. Most people go through the following stages after being infected with HIV: Acute retroviral syndrome is an illness with symptoms like the flu. It often develops within a few days of infection, but it may occur several weeks after the person is infected. Symptoms may include: Abdominal cramps, nausea, or vomiting. Diarrhea. Enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, and groin, fever, headache, muscle aches and joint pain, skin rash, sore throat, and weight loss.
“Ok this is what we can do, you can make an appointment to see me again in an about a month. If there are any symptoms before then you will need to see me immediately. For now there is nothing I can do since there are no symptoms.”
I was relived that I didn’t have any symptoms. But this only means that I have to worry for a whole month. Great just great. I wonder if Jake has ever had an STD test. I will have to ask him later. We left the doctors office and I had grandma drop me off at home. I told her I was going to go back to sleep. I had other things planned but sleeping wasn’t part of it. I needed to see Jake and also I needed to talk to Alyssa.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
I am almost done chapter 9.
As always please leave me a review to let me know what you think.
