Chase's Story pt1
Ok, everyone here is Chase's side of the story from the moment they met to when the last chapter ended. It gives a lot of insight into who Chase is.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gosh, she is beautiful, Chase thought as he continued into his apartment. Who would of thought he would get to live next door to someone like that. She even seemed very nice, not that nice girls were his normal thing to deal with but he could make an exception for her. Beautiful blue eyes, my goodness, Chase had never seen that shade of blue on someone before. It was breathtaking.
He continued to think of the girl from next door as he walked out onto his balcony. Chase glanced down and saw her walking up the street, he had to get to know her somehow, even if he was only going to be living here for a few months. That should be long enough to have some fun. It would definitely be an interesting few months.
Chase is a very handsome man, he knew it. He used his good looks many times in the past to get what ever he wanted, whenever he wanted it. There was, yet, a female who had eluded him when he set his mind to things. Standing well over six feet, he was used to looking down at people; however, he had never dated anyone less than 5’7”, which should make this very interesting, since Jae was just barely over five feet. He has dark brown hair and devilish good looks, occasionally there was the mean streak that came out that helped him in many of his business dealings.
Being the owner of such a huge company, Chase had his pick to choose from. However, he mostly stayed away from the females that had chased him, especially recently. Part of him was ready to settle down, meet the right girl and share his life with her. Then the other part was still wondering if there was a girl out there that was perfect for him, and hell, why not have fun while looking for that girl. He knew she had to be understanding, caring, fun to be with, definitely not boring, a good hostess, and most importantly good looking. He did not want to come home to some woman that he did not even want to look at. Shallow, maybe, but who in there right minds would want to do that day after day, in the end one would end up leaving the other, so why start off bad.
Chase turned when his friend yelled for him to get his ass in gear and to help them out. They were not there for their health, ya know. Chase went into his apartment, thoughts still on the fun that he could have with his new neighbor; noticing that they were done with what was in there already, Chase stepped out into the hall, just in time to catch Jae as she launched herself forward.
“Sorry, I thought we would have this cleaned up before you got back,” Chase told her.
“Oh, that’s okay; I just didn’t expect boxes to be in my way. I’m in a hurry anyways I wouldn’t have noticed,” Jae blurted out.
“Making dinner,” He asked.
“Yea, my family is coming over and everything. My brother thinks I’m a wonderful cook so I need to have a full meal made when he gets here,”
“Nice, maybe I can sample it some time.”
“Uh . . . sure, I better get in and make my food.”
“Just let me know when you want me to come over for dinner,” Chase said as Jae opened her door and slipped inside.
Chase stood staring at Jae’s door for a little while after she went into her apartment. Well, that was interesting, he thought. She can cook and has family. Maybe, she will actually take me up on that offer and invite me to dinner, a perfect first date that could lead to many things. Since we live next door to each other we will see each other all the time. A little brush here and a little brush there, she will be all sorts of hot for me.
Chase continued to plan out his seduction of his pretty neighbor, while putting the rest of his stuff away. About 5:30 p.m. his friends finally left him on his own with the rest of the boxes, there wasn’t many which was a good thing. Ryan, Greg, and Tony kept asking him why he didn’t just hire someone to help him move, it would have been easier. He could afford to do it, but Chase felt that doing it this way with friends actually felt better than just handing the chore on to someone else who would still have to be told where everything would go. Ryan had kept joking all day that Chase wanted to feel like he was back in college with all the guys, setting up their party place that they had after freshman year. Chase had joked that he had been right, but deep down this was just one more step in getting everything that he wanted.
His house was going to be finished in a few months and then he could really start on his future. He was only 30 and a multi-millionaire, but he wasn’t like many. He worked constantly to get everything that he wanted and he never flashed his money to other people. He lived quietly which is what he wanted. He helped his family every chance that he could get, even if his family was always trying to marry him to some bright eyed, young girl. It was not fun when they did this but it certainly was interesting to see which type of girl they have coerced into coming to the family dinner every Sunday.
His sister happened to live only a few blocks from the apartment, which was nice since he hadn’t spent that much time with her and her family in quiet a while. His parents lived outside of the city in the family home, The Circle T. The Circle T was over 100 acres of farm land, his family owned 200 head of beef cattle. When his dad had retired when Chase was 23, they moved out there and made changes. His dad had decided it was time to be the rancher that he was born to be.
Chase’s grand-dad was the one who had made all the money in the family and then passed it on down the line. He was the bright, young man who made some great investments that ended up bringing huge returns. With that money, he made even more investments which continued on and on. Eventually he rolled all his money into a huge corporation that was the main grounds for all of the business owned and other investments that they had to watch over. The Circle T was purchased by Trenton Walker way back in the 1800s and luckily they have kept it in the family since then. There was a lot of history in his family.
While Chase un packed more of his things time went by slowly. It was almost 6 o’clock when he looked at his watch and realized he had yet to call his sister about this weekend and to let her know he would not make it over there for dinner that evening, it was getting too late and he still had unpacking to do.
Chase stood in his kitchen with his cell phone and debated, should he just call or maybe he should go over there. No, he thought he should just call and let her know before she was calling him and yelling. Chase stood there for a second then got a good idea, he should use Jae’s phone! He could just tell her that his cell is down in his car or his battery died and he has to call someone, that should work. Chase was still thinking of his plan while he turned off his phone and strode to the door.
He walked across the fall and knocked on the door.
“Yea!” He heard Jae yell.
“Hey, sorry to bother you,” He said as he came in.
“No problem, what can I do for you,” Jae replied
“Can I use your phone, I haven’t gotten one installed yet and my cell is down in my car,” He told her as he walked into the kitchen.
“Uh, sure, it’s around here some where” Jae replied as she started to lift things up to check underneath them. “Ah, Ha! Here it is. It’s local right?” She said as she handed him the phone.
“Yes it is,” Chase said and smiled at her, she looked so adorable.
“Okay, go ahead.” Jae told him and went back to grilling the chicken.
Chase stood and listened to his sister, Candy; chatter away on the phone as he stared at Jae. She was so cute, pert little nose with that long beautiful hair. He was damn lucky to move into this building, granted he owned it, but still he didn’t want to have to move someone out just to move in. Everyone seemed to be so happy here. He was amazed at how well the renovations worked out, he had happy tenants. Although he did plan on getting someone in here to fix that damn elevator, he was surprised no one had called in to complain about it not working. Of course it seemed that Jae would probably be the only one to use it. He wondered how long she lived here; maybe it was only a few months. He would have to ask.
He was only here on vacation, his house was being built on this side of town and he wanted to be close by to check on the progress. He didn’t want anyone to know who he was, which should be pretty easy since his business name was C.K. Walker. He ran Walker Industries and all of its subsidiaries; he was a busy man at all times. For the first time in 7 years he was taking a vacation, in one of his own apartment buildings.
Living here wasn’t so bad, especially since his neighbor was a nice gorgeous girl and he was now closer to his little sister and her kids. His parents were happy about that, even if he wasn’t completely thrilled to be so close to her. She was a pest, always was a pest since she was born, but that’s how siblings were. He wondered if Jae had more family than just her brother. Maybe she had a boyfriend too; well he could overcome that if he needed to.
Chase tried to get Candy to let him go when he heard a knock on the door and it swung open to a tiny blonde holding a baby. Following behind her was a man and two other children; he looked a lot like Jae did, so Chase guessed it was her brother and his family. He quickly got Candy to say goodbye and promised he would stop over sometime this coming week to visit her and the family.
Chase clicked the off button and set the phone on the counter as he watched Jae and her family chatter away like he wasn’t even there. They seemed like a really close family. When they were all inside and the hugs were over, the woman went to get the dishes to set the table, while the kids chattered on about school and there new friends to there Aunt Jae. It was a wonderful thing to watch, even if there was a small part of him that was sad. He never really had this kind of family setting. When dinner was done, everyone was called to the table and they were served by the servants. It was nice, they never had to do the dishes, well until he went to college. Even then, his mom wanted to send some with him. He had to argue with her for a month to let him go without anyone so that he could learn the real world. His mother always had money in her family, was always used to servants; however, she was not a snob. She knew all her servants and what was going on with them at all times. His family was pretty amazing in there own way but they lacked something, Chase was still not sure what that something was but he didn’t know if he really wanted to find out what it was either.
Jae finally noticed him standing there staring at them like a moron and introduced him to her brother and his family. They were all pretty polite; however, her brother watched him very carefully. That was definitely interesting, Chase thought as he went out the door and back to him own apartment.
Later that evening, Jae came over to his place, well to the door and asked him to help her make herself over to attract guys and to feel better about herself. After she had left, Chase had stood at the door for a while and wondered what the hell she thought she needed to do to herself to attract guys. She was already beautiful, she didn’t need to change anything from what Chase could see. I guess it was just one of those other weird female things, Chase thought to himself as he got ready for bed.
The next afternoon, Chase was sitting in his kitchen when he heard noise out in the hallway. Jae must be leaving, he thought as he got up and went to the door to catch her before she left. He opened the door to find an older woman and a child about 4 or 5 standing at Jae’s door.
“ Can I help you,” Chase asked.
“Oh, you must be the new neighbor, I’m Mrs. Fisher or Annabelle.” Mrs. Fisher told him.
“Hello, Mrs. Fisher, you here to visit Jae?”
“Yes, I am. We are here to make cookies, maybe you would like to join us.”
“I’ve never made cookies before, that should be interesting. Have you knocked?”
“Knocked? Oh, no not yet”
Chase reached over and knocked on the door a few times. When no one came to the door, he knocked again. Soon the door was whipped open by a gorgeous girl in just a t-shirt. Chase stood there staring at Jae and she sputtered about the time and that she had guests. She was just adorable, was there ever a time when she wasn’t, he wondered.
As they walked into the apartment and into the kitchen, Chase watched as Jae ran up the stairs. He stared some more as he got little glimpses of her ass as she hurried up there, she had a real nice, toned ass and it was tan. A tan ass, Chase thought, she must sun bathe in the nude, what an interesting thought. He wondered whether she tanned on her balcony or went somewhere. He was shocked back into reality when Mrs. Fisher handed him a measuring cup.
He was adding sugar to the mix already in the bowl when Jae came back down, Mrs. Fisher shooed her out of the kitchen and into the living room while they continued making cookies. Chase let his thoughts wander as he automatically answered Mrs. Fisher’s questions about who he was and what he did for a living, giving the vaguest answers as he could. Jae sat in the living room looking like she was 16 years old. God, she’s beautiful Chase thought. Why he kept thinking about her was beyond him. He had never thought of a girl so much in his life. They always come and then they go, he never spent a lot of energy on any female. But here was this girl who could look like a debutante and a 16 year old and he has yet to think of any one else since he met her yesterday. He even dreamed about her last night. It was odd, he dreamed of his house, Jae, a dog, and *scarey thought* kids running in the yard. NEVER HAD HE HAD A DREAM LIKE THAT!!!
Some time during the day, Chase decided that he would help Jae make whatever changes she wanted to help her attract guys; however, he would not be able to help with everything so she would have to get someone else too, unless he asked his sister. Candy would love that, get her out of the house and let her go shopping and she was in heaven. After the cookies were made and Mrs. Fisher gone, Chase and Jae sat and talked for quiet a long time, discussing all the things that she wanted to do to herself. It was pretty interesting, Chase had decided. Who knew a girl did all these things just to meet a guy. Jae had a goal of 3 months to get this all done, so that she had a date for a wedding.
They kissed that night, Chase could not help himself. After working so hard all evening to go through her clothes and discussing what else needed to be finished. She stood there staring up at him, her pink lips slightly wet from her licking them all evening, Chase had to taste her. He leaned in and let his lips rest on hers for a few seconds, then rocked them over. He slowly let his tongue touch her lips to get her to part them. Then dove in, she tasted like honey, it was heaven. The sparks were flying. When it was over, Chase could not believe that she closed the door on him. No one, especially a female, had ever done that to him. He stood there on the other side, shocked; not just because she closed the door on him, that kiss was amazing. He licked his lips, he could still taste her, honey, pure honey. He looked at the door, “ this is just the beginning” he said then turned back to his apartment.
The next day he sent flowers to Jae at work, thankfully Mrs. Fisher had mentioned where she worked so he knew. Although, it wouldn’t of been too hard to figure out, since the company she worked for he owned. What a small world. He also invited her to dinner that evening; however, he got a call later that day about a company out in Kentucky that was having some problems and had to fly out there to take care of them. Chase didn’t see Jae for a week but that didn’t mean he hadn’t thought of her. She was always on his mind, he wondered what she was doing, where she was, what she was wearing. He could not get her off of his mind, he tried. He went to extremes, he called up a girl that he knew to come and spend some time with him. It was a mistake, he knew that once she showed up at his apartment Friday night, he had just returned from Kentucky, was tired and not in the greatest of moods. But there was Monica, at his door.
He pulled her in quickly, hoping that Jae hadn’t seen her or heard her knock on his door. He felt guilty. Monica cooked him dinner, then when she thought things would turn out wonderful for the evening, Chase fell asleep on the couch as he watched the news.
He woke the next morning, on the couch with Monica next to him, wondering what the hell had happened the night before. He knew he wasn’t drunk but he couldn’t recall all that had happened after he had sat on the couch to watch the news. Monica woke up and kissed him, Chase turned away and got up to take a shower.
When he was out of the shower he heard someone knocking on the door, he walked out in his towel to see Jae and his niece, Kayla, standing at the door asking for him. Monica was not very polite and Chase was in shock. He wanted to get Kayla and Jae out of there as fast as he could. Quickly he asked Jae to take Kayla down to Candy and told them he would be down there in a minute.
Once Chase got down there, only Candy, Kayla, and Jacob were standing there. Where was Jae, he wondered. Candy was giving him the worst look he had ever gotten from her. He was just not in the mood to deal with her yelling at him. Monica would not leave, she draped herself on his arm while he tried to calm his sister down without saying anything that would make her even madder.
Chase heard the door open to the building then he heard Jae laugh, he turned to look and couldn’t breathe. She was beautiful, once again. She was dressed in all black, with her hair flowing down her back. She had something different done to it, he didn’t know what but there was definitely something different. She barely looked at him as she talked then turned and walked down the street. Chase seethed, did she not ask him for help, what the hell was she doing. He shook off Monica and went off down the street, barely seeing the satisfied smile that came across his sisters face.
“Where the hell do you think your going,” Chase snapped.
“Shopping, why,” Jae replied, coolly.
“You’re supposed to go shopping with my sister and me,” Chase yelled.
“Well, I’m sorry, didn’t she tell you, you don’t have to help me any more Chase, I can handle it all just find by myself, like I have been doing this whole week.”
“No, Jae, I promised I would help you, so I’m going to.”
“And I just told you I don’t need your help anymore, I’m doing just fine on my own, don’t worry about helping me.”
“Damn it, Jae . . .”
“Chase, aren’t we going to lunch,” Monica asked as she came up to them.
“See, you have plans, you have a good day Chase,” Jae said, then turned and walked away.
“Jae!” Chase yelled after her. She continued to walk away.
Damn it! Chase thought as he turned to Monica and told her they were not going to lunch, they were not going to stop at any shops, he already had plans for the day and she should go and find some damn thing to do. He was so irritated. He stalked back to his sister, this was going to be interesting he thought as he saw the look on his sisters face.
“ You’re in love with her” Candy stated.
“ Don’t be ridiculous,” Chase announced.
“ Well, then you really like her, more than the others”
“No, I promised her I would help and she is not letting me help,”
“Mhm, she was not happy when she came down here with Kayla, she looked upset.”
“Well, damn it, that is not my fault, I’m a man, I have needs.”
“ But those needs are not getting satisfied by the person you want, so it doesn’t matter”
“When did you get so smart?”
“ When you became stupid”
“Let’s go get something to eat and go shopping”
“Okay”
Chase and Candy left to do what they had planned to do for the day but without Jae. Chase was upset, it was supposed to be a fun day but it turned out to be a horrible day.
What was he going to do now, Jae was mad at him, so was Monica, not that Monica mattered in this situation but there had to be something that he could do about Jae. She was being unreasonable, just because there was another woman in his apartment, did not mean they could not be friends. She was his friend, wasn’t she? He thought they were and hopefully they could be more than that, but who knew what was going on in her head. She was a female, who understands females, certainly not him. He needed a plan, a plan to get Jae to talk to him about why she doesn’t want him to help anymore. It doesn’t make any sense, why all the sudden she doesn’t want him to help.
Maybe, she likes him too, he thought. Maybe that is why. Why would she want help from the person that she is trying to attract, actually that might be a better idea, then she would know exactly what he wants rather than trying to guess, plus they are friends so she knows more about what he wants in life not just about a female. It would make sense, so why doesn’t she want him to help! Damn it, he could not come up with any reason at all why she would go back on the deal that they had made. He was so confused.
The next afternoon, Chase was sitting in his kitchen when he heard noise out in the hallway. Jae must be leaving, he thought as he got up and went to the door to catch her before she left. He opened the door to find an older woman and a child about 4 or 5 standing at Jae’s door.
“ Can I help you,” Chase asked.
“Oh, you must be the new neighbor, I’m Mrs. Fisher or Annabelle.” Mrs. Fisher told him.
“Hello, Mrs. Fisher, you here to visit Jae?”
“Yes, I am. We are here to make cookies, maybe you would like to join us.”
“I’ve never made cookies before, that should be interesting. Have you knocked?”
“Knocked? Oh, no not yet”
Chase reached over and knocked on the door a few times. When no one came to the door, he knocked again. Soon the door was whipped open by a gorgeous girl in just a t-shirt. Chase stood there staring at Jae and she sputtered about the time and that she had guests. She was just adorable, was there ever a time when she wasn’t, he wondered.
As they walked into the apartment and into the kitchen, Chase watched as Jae ran up the stairs. He stared some more as he got little glimpses of her ass as she hurried up there, she had a real nice, toned ass and it was tan. A tan ass, Chase thought, she must sun bathe in the nude, what an interesting thought. He wondered whether she tanned on her balcony or went somewhere. He was shocked back into reality when Mrs. Fisher handed him a measuring cup.
He was adding sugar to the mix already in the bowl when Jae came back down, Mrs. Fisher shooed her out of the kitchen and into the living room while they continued making cookies. Chase let his thoughts wander as he automatically answered Mrs. Fisher’s questions about who he was and what he did for a living, giving the vaguest answers as he could. Jae sat in the living room looking like she was 16 years old. God, she’s beautiful Chase thought. Why he kept thinking about her was beyond him. He had never thought of a girl so much in his life. They always come and then they go, he never spent a lot of energy on any female. But here was this girl who could look like a debutante and a 16 year old and he has yet to think of any one else since he met her yesterday. He even dreamed about her last night. It was odd, he dreamed of his house, Jae, a dog, and *scarey thought* kids running in the yard. NEVER HAD HE HAD A DREAM LIKE THAT!!!
Some time during the day, Chase decided that he would help Jae make whatever changes she wanted to help her attract guys; however, he would not be able to help with everything so she would have to get someone else too, unless he asked his sister. Candy would love that, get her out of the house and let her go shopping and she was in heaven. After the cookies were made and Mrs. Fisher gone, Chase and Jae sat and talked for quiet a long time, discussing all the things that she wanted to do to herself. It was pretty interesting, Chase had decided. Who knew a girl did all these things just to meet a guy. Jae had a goal of 3 months to get this all done, so that she had a date for a wedding.
They kissed that night, Chase could not help himself. After working so hard all evening to go through her clothes and discussing what else needed to be finished. She stood there staring up at him, her pink lips slightly wet from her licking them all evening, Chase had to taste her. He leaned in and let his lips rest on hers for a few seconds, then rocked them over. He slowly let his tongue touch her lips to get her to part them. Then dove in, she tasted like honey, it was heaven. The sparks were flying. When it was over, Chase could not believe that she closed the door on him. No one, especially a female, had ever done that to him. He stood there on the other side, shocked; not just because she closed the door on him, that kiss was amazing. He licked his lips, he could still taste her, honey, pure honey. He looked at the door, “ this is just the beginning” he said then turned back to his apartment.
The next day he sent flowers to Jae at work, thankfully Mrs. Fisher had mentioned where she worked so he knew. Although, it wouldn’t of been too hard to figure out, since the company she worked for he owned. What a small world. He also invited her to dinner that evening; however, he got a call later that day about a company out in Kentucky that was having some problems and had to fly out there to take care of them. Chase didn’t see Jae for a week but that didn’t mean he hadn’t thought of her. She was always on his mind, he wondered what she was doing, where she was, what she was wearing. He could not get her off of his mind, he tried. He went to extremes, he called up a girl that he knew to come and spend some time with him. It was a mistake, he knew that once she showed up at his apartment Friday night, he had just returned from Kentucky, was tired and not in the greatest of moods. But there was Monica, at his door.
He pulled her in quickly, hoping that Jae hadn’t seen her or heard her knock on his door. He felt guilty. Monica cooked him dinner, then when she thought things would turn out wonderful for the evening, Chase fell asleep on the couch as he watched the news.
He woke the next morning, on the couch with Monica next to him, wondering what the hell had happened the night before. He knew he wasn’t drunk but he couldn’t recall all that had happened after he had sat on the couch to watch the news. Monica woke up and kissed him, Chase turned away and got up to take a shower.
When he was out of the shower he heard someone knocking on the door, he walked out in his towel to see Jae and his niece, Kayla, standing at the door asking for him. Monica was not very polite and Chase was in shock. He wanted to get Kayla and Jae out of there as fast as he could. Quickly he asked Jae to take Kayla down to Candy and told them he would be down there in a minute.
Once Chase got down there, only Candy, Kayla, and Jacob were standing there. Where was Jae, he wondered. Candy was giving him the worst look he had ever gotten from her. He was just not in the mood to deal with her yelling at him. Monica would not leave, she draped herself on his arm while he tried to calm his sister down without saying anything that would make her even madder.
Chase heard the door open to the building then he heard Jae laugh, he turned to look and couldn’t breathe. She was beautiful, once again. She was dressed in all black, with her hair flowing down her back. She had something different done to it, he didn’t know what but there was definitely something different. She barely looked at him as she talked then turned and walked down the street. Chase seethed, did she not ask him for help, what the hell was she doing. He shook off Monica and went off down the street, barely seeing the satisfied smile that came across his sisters face.
“Where the hell do you think your going,” Chase snapped.
“Shopping, why,” Jae replied, coolly.
“You’re supposed to go shopping with my sister and me,” Chase yelled.
“Well, I’m sorry, didn’t she tell you, you don’t have to help me any more Chase, I can handle it all just find by myself, like I have been doing this whole week.”
“No, Jae, I promised I would help you, so I’m going to.”
“And I just told you I don’t need your help anymore, I’m doing just fine on my own, don’t worry about helping me.”
“Damn it, Jae . . .”
“Chase, aren’t we going to lunch,” Monica asked as she came up to them.
“See, you have plans, you have a good day Chase,” Jae said, then turned and walked away.
“Jae!” Chase yelled after her. She continued to walk away.
Damn it! Chase thought as he turned to Monica and told her they were not going to lunch, they were not going to stop at any shops, he already had plans for the day and she should go and find some damn thing to do. He was so irritated. He stalked back to his sister, this was going to be interesting he thought as he saw the look on his sisters face.
“ You’re in love with her” Candy stated.
“ Don’t be ridiculous,” Chase announced.
“ Well, then you really like her, more than the others”
“No, I promised her I would help and she is not letting me help,”
“Mhm, she was not happy when she came down here with Kayla, she looked upset.”
“Well, damn it, that is not my fault, I’m a man, I have needs.”
“ But those needs are not getting satisfied by the person you want, so it doesn’t matter”
“When did you get so smart?”
“ When you became stupid”
“Let’s go get something to eat and go shopping”
“Okay”
Chase and Candy left to do what they had planned to do for the day but without Jae. Chase was upset, it was supposed to be a fun day but it turned out to be a horrible day.
What was he going to do now, Jae was mad at him, so was Monica, not that Monica mattered in this situation but there had to be something that he could do about Jae. She was being unreasonable, just because there was another woman in his apartment, did not mean they could not be friends. She was his friend, wasn’t she? He thought they were and hopefully they could be more than that, but who knew what was going on in her head. She was a female, who understands females, certainly not him. He needed a plan, a plan to get Jae to talk to him about why she doesn’t want him to help anymore. It doesn’t make any sense, why all the sudden she doesn’t want him to help.
Maybe, she likes him too, he thought. Maybe that is why. Why would she want help from the person that she is trying to attract, actually that might be a better idea, then she would know exactly what he wants rather than trying to guess, plus they are friends so she knows more about what he wants in life not just about a female. It would make sense, so why doesn’t she want him to help! Damn it, he could not come up with any reason at all why she would go back on the deal that they had made. He was so confused.
