“I asked what it was that you ‘really did’ this time…..” He paused a moment for the effect, “Kerry.”

She shook her head like she was hearing things, “Did you just call me ‘Kerry’?”

“Yes.”

“WHY did you just call me ‘Kerry’?”

“Because that’s your name, isn’t it?”

“You don’t think my name is ‘Cassie’?”

“No, not unless you can give me some sort proof that you ARE ‘Cassie’?”

Kerry was totally caught off guard, even more so than before. She was speechless. She’d start,

“But I…” and then stop, think some, point a finger in some direction, start again,
“But you…” stop again to think some more, then point someplace else.

While Kerry was still trying to figure out what had just happened, Grant stood up and walked over to her. Grasping her gently by the shoulders he stood there, staring intently into her eyes. Kerry stared back and felt all the turmoil and confusion just trickle away. All she could think of were those beautiful green/grey eyes, and she felt herself melt. But the movement wasn’t hers, Grant was pulling her to him and they embraced in a kiss.

This was not the closed-mouth, hardly a pucker, felt-like-you-just-kissed-your-brother kiss she had received while trying to seduce him a year ago. No, this kiss was filled with passion; his mouth covered hers, his tongue probing into her mouth, playing tag with her tongue. There was no mistaking the emotion behind this kiss. Kerry felt his arms envelope her, they stood there locked in the embrace for what seemed like an eternity.

Then Kerry felt the pressure of Grant's lips weaken, his arms around her loosen. The kiss was over, but Kerry kept her eyes closed for a little longer, wanting to imprint every second, every feeling, and every thought into her memory. When she opened her eyes Grant stood there, right in front of her, staring right into her eyes.

"*That’s* how I wanted to kiss you last year" were the first words he spoke.

Kerry felt a shiver run through her, but things still weren’t making sense. It sounded stupid, but she had to say it, “Who are you, again?”

“I’m Grant” he answered as he brought her hand to his mouth and kissed the top of her knuckles.

“And who am I?” she said with an increasing tone of doubt and fear, because, NOW, she felt like she was the one going crazy.

“You, my dear,” he said, kissing the palm of her hand, “are Kerry.” kiss, “Kerry of the beautiful red hair,” kiss, “Kerry of the wonderful sense of humor,” kiss, “Kerry the practical joker who went one tiny step too far!” Kiss.

Again, the light bulb might actually have been seen glowing steadily over Kerry’s head as Grant’s words sunk in. “You, you figured it out?”

“Yes, my dear.”

“Are you mad about it?”

“No!” he said laughingly, pulling her closer to him, “I think it was a beautiful charade!” Kerry liked how he pronounced it ‘shah-rod’ instead of ‘shah-raid’.

Kerry chuckled lightly with him, and then reality set in like an uninvited elephant to dinner. “Wait just one second!” she disentangled herself from him and held him out at arms length. “Just what the heck do you mean by ‘That’s how you wanted to kiss me last year’?? I never got a kiss from you last year!! I tried to kiss you last year and what I got wouldn’t even qualify as a peck on the cheek!! Chickens peck the ground better than that! So you’d better start explaining, buster!”
