Of Roast and Stew
The horse trotted through the country side. It was always too green up here for Zanhmere, but his pet seemed to be enjoying it. It was like the garden but a hundred times bigger! He enjoyed the smile on her face. He enjoyed her hugging against him. He was finished with what he needed to do so why not? He had time now.
"Look, Master." Trinity pointed to a small lake in the distance. "Can we ride over there? I bet the moon looks really pretty on the water."
"Very well, Pet." Zanhmere turned the horse about and started in the new direction. "Are you..." He paused for a second. He had to think of the word he wanted to say. "Are you happy?"
"Oh yes! Very much, Master! You're the best master in the world!"
"I'm your only master." He smirked. "But I understand what you're saying."
"Master?"
"Yes, Pet?"
"Are you happy that you brought me?"
"I am satisfied." He brushed a red stray curl away from her cheek and over her ear. "You did just as I told you to do."
"I will always listen to you, Master. I promise I will."
"That pleases me." He looked down at her. She was seated in front of him on the saddle. "It pleases me very much to hear this."
"Master?"
"Hm?"
"Will I be with you forever?"
"Until the end of time and beyond, my pet." Zanhmere wrapped his arm around her. His cloak was covering her to keep the chilled night air away. "Forever and always." He whispered.
"Forever and always."
Trinity yawned and leaned up against him. Her head rested against his chest now. His warmth was soothing. It made her body relax to a very restful state. He let the other side of his cloak wrap around her. The material blanketed over her and covered her petite form completely.
"I'll take you to the lake."
"Thank You Master." Trinity pulled the cloak down so just her head was peeking out. The excitement of everything so far was wearing her down however. "Do you think we can get something to eat too? I kind of forgot to eat before we left. I'm hungry."
"We can go back home and eat if you wish."
"No, I don't want to leave yet. Can't we eat somewhere up here Master?"
"I suppose." He glanced back towards the little village in the distance. "I believe there was a place that served food there."
"Thank you!" She leaned up and kissed his cheek. "Something smelled really good coming from that one place. It had two really big windows and lots of people were inside. I saw it when we walked by."
"That is the place I am talking about. This works out doesn't it?" He smirked. "Look ahead, Pet."
"Oh!" Trinity gasped.
The horse stood on a small hill top that over looked the lake. The moon was shining down over the water. The breeze made the water ripple and look as if it were dancing. There was also waterfowl playing amongst the reeds and grasses of the shallows.
"I thought this might please you."
"It is so..." She panted and sat up slightly. "What are those?"
Zanhmere looked at the small Mallard ducks in the water. There was an entire family of ducklings playing ducky hide and go seek in the water reeds. Trinity seemed fascinated by them. He made sure to take a mental note of this. Perhaps he could recreate something like this in his magic garden.
"Have you never heard of a duck?"
"No, Master. Should I have?"
"Point taken." He chuckled. "Those are called Mallards. They are wild animals up here."
Trinity smiled widely. Her grin went from ear to ear. He decided it was a good decision to bring her up here at this point. Zanhmere liked the way it made him feel to see her happy like this.
"I bet they feel soft."
"I don't know. I have never touched one."
"You haven't, Master?" She shifted so she could look over her shoulder at him. "Wow. I thought you had."
"No Pet. You're ...the only thing I like to have around me." He nodded. Zanhmere's hand came up and straightened the head band in her hair. "You know how I am."
"I like to be around you and make you happy, Master."
"You please me greatly tonight, Trinity."
"Thank you, Master ."
He moved his hands back to the reigns of the horse. Zanhmere turned the steed and started to have it trot back towards the village. It was time to go get her something to eat now. Trinity hugged the cloak around her and leaned against him again as they rode. She used him for support to keep her from bouncing. Trotting made the ride less smooth.
"Look ahead" They were approaching the small little Inn and restaurant. "Is this the place?" He asked as he dismounted the horse. "Or was it that one over there?"
"This is it Master. It smells so good." She took a deep breath in and rubbed her tummy. "I wonder what that is." Trinity let her nose guide her to the door. "I smell bread too. Hot bread and some kind of meat." She smiled. "Can we really go in, Master?"
"That is what I brought you here for."
"Thank you!"
Trinity was glowing. Zanhmere definitely was pleased with this new feeling inside him. He might have to bring her out more. She met with warmth and a renewed smell of fresh bread. Zanhmere led her into the place further. There were two long tables with equally long benches in the main part. The fire place was burning brightly.
"Oh wow." Trinity had never seen anything like this. Zanhmere's castle wasn't exactly set up like this for her to see it. She didn't really remember anything before she came to the palace. "Oh! Look! There are little tables too! Can we sit over there?" She was pulling him along. "Please, Master?"
"Of course." Zanhmere shrugged away the glances from the people. They were wary of strangers in their little town. "That corner one will let us sit alone and away from these...People."
"Okay!"
Trinity grinned. She finally slid her self into the chair. Zanhmere helped to push it closer to the table, as any gentleman would, not that he was one, but still. He was this way with Trinity. She smiled again. That smile didn't seem to fade from her tonight.
"Comfortable?" He sat down across from her. "Or do you need the chair moved?"
"I am fine, Master. Thank you for asking."
"Hello! What an adorable little girl." A woman stepped over. She had on a wenches dress with a bodice to boost up her chest. It was a dull brown and had green and cream colored skirts. They were layered over the top of one another. "What can I get for you and your daughter, sir?"
"She isn't my daughter." Zanhmere glanced at the brown haired woman. She was chunky in the face but not overly large. "She is my pet. Do not confuse it."
Trinity chewed her bottom lip and looked up. She hoped the lady didn't make Zanhmere mad. She knew he sometimes lost his temper. The woman gulped and stepped back. A look of danger flashed in Zanhmere's eyes.
"Of course! Forgive me. How can I serve you this evening, my Lord?" Crystal looked down at her writing pad. This man made her heart race. "The house special is Roast with Vegetable stew and fresh baked bread. Otherwise we have just about anything else from chicken to deer."
"Is that the roast we are smelling now?" Zanhmere looked back to Trinity, who was remaining quiet. "My pet would like that. I will take a serving as well. Make sure they are large servings. I do not want to leave here hungry."
He didn't know how to ask for anything. Most everything he said came off as a command or a very stern request. Crystal nodded and placed her pad away in her apron. For some reason he made her entire body quiver.
"What would you and she like to drink, my Lord?" She took a deep, slow breath. "We have water, juice, and warm ale. We also have milk. It was just taken from the cow today."
"What would you like, Trinity?" Zanhmere continued to look at her alone. He did not care to look at these other humans. "Water? Juice? Whatever you like."
"Juice, please." Trinity smiled and looked up at Crystal. "Missiva always gives me Berry juice. Do you have that?"
"Yes we do." Crystal offered a kind smile. "What would my lord like?"
"I'll have what she has." Zanhmere said bluntly.
"Yes, my Lord." Crystal bowed her head and backed away. "I will bring your drinks and food right away."
Trinity giggled and looked over at her master. She leaned forward like he was on the table and placed her hand on his. She was imitating his movements right now.
Zanhmere chuckled at her. They often played this game. He made a scowl face next. Trinity copied him again.
"Where are we going after we eat, Master?"
"Wherever you like." Zanhmere brushed her hair from her face. He couldn't see her eyes when the curls fell down and covered them. "If you see somewhere you like, then we will go."
"As long as you're with me, I don't care where we go."
Trinity didn't get to spend much time with him. They rarely had moments like this. They usually were interrupted by someone coming to find him, or by Missiva , or by Zanhmere having to leave. It got frustrating for the thirteen-year-old, but she managed.
"Here we are." The same waitress came back. She was relatively fast about it. "Two healthy portions of our finest roast with a heaping bowl of stew and bread." She set the large plates down. "There is softened butter on the table. It was churned from the owner's own cow's milk and cream."
Zanhmere nodded to her. He even passed her a few gold coins. Normally he wouldn't think of paying for this, but Trinity was with him. He didn't want to raise a scene in front of her. He didn't know why either. He just didn't want to.
"Enjoy. Here are your drinks as well. I also brought you water, just in case the juice is too sweet or tart."
Crystal bowed lightly and quickly backed away. She was cursing Melody for switching tables with her tonight. Zanhmere was a scary, handsome man. Any woman would feel the same. She was sure of this.
"Eat up Trinity."
"Wow. There is so much food here. I don't know if I can eat it all, Master." Trinity looked up at him wide eyed. "I don't think I am that big."
"It is okay if you don't. I wanted to make sure you had enough was all."
"No one takes care of me as good as you, Master." Trinity smiled. "You are the best."
"I know." Zanhmere smirked. "Now eat up before it gets cold. Don't worry about how you eat. If these people don't like it, they can leave."
Trinity dug into her food. She still ate very daintily. Zanhmere glanced around only once before looking to his plate. He could finish this small helping rather easily. He thought it odd that the woman considered this a healthy portion.
The two attracted attention of course. Zanhmere was a very attractive man in his human guise. His dark hair and eyes made women want. It made women who already had men want for more. There was also Trinity. She was just blooming into womanhood. She was young, but she had slight curves. Her red hair attracted attention automatically. It was fine and very silky. Her green eyes could make men lose themselves. They would lose themselves if they kept staring.
Only when Trinity could eat nothing more would they leave. This was best dinner she could have ever imagined though. She got her master all to her self, well kind of. There were other people around but no one was bothering them. Finally the two stood and he walked away with her. She said she felt like she was stuffed. Zanhmere smirked and thought about all the people he had 'stuffed'.
"Come, Trinity."
"Coming, Master."
The two left the establishment and not a single drop of blood was shed. This was unusual for the demon king. He didn't complain. Trinity distracted him from the looks and whispers. He could always come back and deal with these people later anyways.
"Where to?" He said as he lifted her to the horses back. "The hill? Just point."
"That way." She smiled and pointed in a northern direction. "Maybe we can see that big hill if we get closer."
"That is called a mountain. Look closely and you will see snow on along the tops."
"Oh! Can we touch it?" Trinity gasped. "They don't have snow on the ground here. Why not?"
"We can't touch it tonight but I will take you there on another visit. The reason it is snowy there is because those mountains are so high up that is colder there then it is here." You didn't live as long as Zanhmere and learn nothing of the world. "They have never seen snow in this part. It does not get cold enough."
"Wow. Is that why we can't touch it? The mountain is so big that it only looks close? It would take us a long time to ride to it huh, Master?"
"Exactly, Pet. We can ride closer however." Zanhmere kicked his horse into a full gallop. "We can see the sky more clearly out there as well."
Trinity sighed contentedly. She was full and she had her master. She wrapped his cloak around her and snuggled back against him. Zanhmere held her close to him with one arm. She loved this. Trinity wouldn't trade this for anything in the world. Time alone with her master was enough.
In the distance, eyes followed them. Makinna sighed and lowered her head. She was a female demon in the service of Zanhmere. She was sent to find him by one of the elite guards. She had a few problems with this request. One was that if she disturbed him right now then he might punish her. Another reason was that she really didn't like Trinity. The girl stole the master's attentions away and kept him. He showed no interest in female demons at all. The last reason was that this matter was really just a small issue; and he would definitely not like being disturbed for it.
"Well okay. There is only one course of action to take. I will have to take care of him myself."
Makinna turned. She had a sleek red, curvy body. Her wings were also red but they had black tips on the end. Her tail was a single pointed end. Her legs were slender and long. Taloned feet wait at the end of them. Her hands were also talons. She kept the tips of these poisonous claws very sharp and well trimmed. Her hair was as black as midnight and her eyes matched. The only white parts on this demon woman were her small, 'cute' kitten like fangs.
"That is just what I will have to do."
Her form flamed away. The ground charred where her black flames touched. Nothing would grow there. This was a standard side effect, much like when Mayven's flames touched the ground. She was different than him however. Women demon's always were. This new subject would soon learn why.
