Summer's over

“What do you have first period?” Gavin asked as he glanced over his schedule carefully.

“Advanced calc,” Adam replied. “You?”

The school wasn’t crowded yet so they were able to get their schedules fairly easily before homeroom. They figured it would be better to get them before homeroom so they could compare.

“I have chemistry,” Gavin said glumly. “I hate chemistry. It’s the only science that confuses me, especially with all its symbols and numbers.”

“Don’t worry, babe,” Adam laughed. “I’ll help you understand it.”

“Thanks,” Gavin breathed as he smiled up at him.

Though neither was particularly anxious to start class again, they didn’t really mind either. It was their junior year and they hoped classes would get more interesting now that they got all of the mandatory crap out of the way. Gavin snatched away Adam’s schedule and held it alongside his own, while his boyfriend looked over his shoulder.

“Hey, we have social studies and English together,” he chirped. He sucked in a short breath when he felt Adam’s lips nip at the back of his neck. “Ad-dam!”

“Relax,” Adam whispered. “No one’s here.”

Gavin leaned back into his boyfriend with a sigh and let him nuzzle his ear and neck for a little while before they heard a door slam open from down a nearby hallway. Gavin pulled away uneasily and pushed an ebony lock of hair behind his ear. Adam frowned slightly but didn’t make a comment as other kids started drifting into the hallways. They looked over their schedules again and noted they also had lunch and study hall at the same time … four periods together in all.

“Hey, Ad!” Dave shouted as he made his way over. He glanced over at Gavin briefly but said nothing, causing the black-haired boy to shrink slightly into the wall.

“Hi,” Adam replied without smiling.

“Still friends with New Kid, I see.”

“His name is Gavin,” Adam said icily.

“No need to get bent out of shape,” Dave put up a hand. “I was just saying.”

“You were just saying … what?”

“Why is everything a fight with you,” Dave sighed.

“I don’t want it to be either,” Adam shrugged. “But I won’t stand by and watch you insult him. He’s a human being. And my friend.”

“And I’m …?”

“Also my friend. Now play nice … or I’ll sic Suzie on you.”

“Can’t fight your own battles anymore?” Ted challenged as he approached the three from behind Adam.

“You know I can. It’s just much more entertaining to watch her handle you,” Adam shot back.

Ted and Dave smirked at him but he’d been friends with them long enough to know when they were playing and this was one of those times. Dave finally laughed and said, “Fine, fine.” He turned to Gavin and smiled, albeit a bit wickedly. “Hello, Gavin. Have a nice summer.”

“Yes. Thanks,” Gavin, murmured awkwardly, hoping the two would go back to ignoring him like they had been doing at the end of last semester.

“We heard you got Adam here a job at the bookstore,” Ted added. “That was very … nice of you.”

Gavin shrugged.

“It was nice of him,” Adam cut in. “Now I have extra money for my hobby.”

“And what hobby would that be?” Ted rounded on him scowling.

“You know,” Adam grinned. “The one you two wish would go away.”

“Science lectures,” Ted and Dave moaned in unison.

“Yeah! And since I still work part time, I’ll be getting more money, plus a sweet discount on my other hobby.”

“Science thrillers!” Ted and Dave said and punctuated it with a shiver.

“Ah, life doesn’t get any better than this, boys!” Adam clapped.

Gavin watched the scene with a smile, happy for once to be a part of any conversation with Ted and Dave. If they would only keep this façade up, he could live with it … for Adam’s sake.

“What are these morons doing to you two now?” Suzie demanded, hands on her hips and a frown firmly in place.

“Nothing, Suze!” Adam grinned. “I found their weakness and will exploit the hell out of it.”

“Weakness?” she asked, intrigued. “What weakness?”

“They … hate …” Adam leaned toward her like a conspirator, shot a look over at the pair in question and whispered loudly, “Science!”

“Ahhhh!” Dave and Ted yelled covering their ears.

Suzie let out a yelp of laughter despite her annoyance with the two jocks and winked at Gavin who smiled back shyly.

“That went better than I thought it would,” Gavin sighed as he stretched out on Adam’s bed.

They were finally back from school and didn’t have to work that evening. Gavin was looking forward to spending some more time alone with Adam, knowing that it wouldn’t be easy to get intimate time together now that school started. He loved when he could laze the hours away wrapped in his boyfriend’s arms, just talking about general things. He loved Adam, that was all there was to it.

“Mmm,” Adam replied as he crawled up Gavin’s body and covered him. He looked into the boy’s eyes for a while before slowly leaning in and kissing the lips he’d been dreaming about all day.

Gavin purred beneath him and it made him feel like a god for some reason. He sighed and deepened the kiss, causing Gavin to part his lips for him. Their tongues dueled for a while before he slowly pulled back.

“Mmm?” Gavin complained looking up at him quizzically.

Adam just smiled at him enigmatically.

“You’re wearing too many clothes again,” Gavin pointed out.

“Back at you.”

They undressed each other carefully, kissing and tasting each other along the way. Each garment fell to the floor and soon there was a pile next to the bed. A naked Adam eyed it laughingly.

“My floor is beginning to look like a laundromat,” he teased.

“I think it’s an abstract sculpture,” Gavin countered.

“You love me, right, Gavvy?”

Gavin gave him a curious look that made Adam want to laugh but he held his face in a neutral expression.

“Y-yeah. Why?”

“Would you do anything for me?”

Gavin’s dumbfounded look turned wary and Adam had to exert more effort to remain impassive.

“W-well, I wouldn’t … I don’t know … hurt people for you,” the nervous boy offered. “But pretty much, yeah.”

Adam smiled broadly before he flipped them over so that Gavin now lay across his chest, looking down at him with confusion.

“Huh?”

“You can’t guess?” Adam asked sweetly. He curled a lock of Gavin’s black hair around his finger idly.

“I don’t,” Gavin began. “I don’t get it.”

Mmm …” Adam tilted his head as he looked up at his lover. “You know how much I love making love to you, right?”

Gavin flushed a beautiful shade of dark pink as he looked away but he also nodded.

“Good. ‘Cause I was hoping you would show me how it feels.”

“Huh?” Gavin’s face twisted from perplexed to absolute terror. “But I don’t know how! Please, Adam. I can’t do that.”

“You can’t?” Adam frowned turning them onto their sides and pulling a shaking Gavin to his chest. “Okay. Shh! I wouldn’t make you if you don’t want to.”

Gavin sniffled a little and burrowed further into his boyfriend’s arms for comfort, causing Adam to feel like an ass for asking him.

“Really,” he soothed the boy. “It’s cool. I didn’t know you wouldn’t want to.”

“No!” Gavin exclaimed pulling back to look at him. “It’s not that! I want to!”

Adam shrugged and kept one arm locked securely around Gavin’s waist while his free hand massaged the boy’s scalp and played with his hair.

“Really!” Gavin insisted. “I do!” He looked down sadly. “But I don’t think I’d be any good at it.”

Adam laughed softly and kissed the tip of the boy’s nose. He really was too freaking cute sometimes.

“Did you think I magically knew what I was doing the first time we made love?” he asked gently.

Gavin shrugged.

“I was scared I was going to hurt you,” Adam went on. “And I did.”

“No, not much,” Gavin rushed to defend him.

“The first time always hurts,” Adam replied. “That’s what I read on the Internet.”

Gavin nodded mutely.

“The point is you guided me through.”

“I did?” Gavin asked incredulously.

“Yeah. You did. You told me when I hit your prostate and you made me stay inside you while your body adjusted to me,” Adam pointed out. “Otherwise I would have pulled out immediately and never made another attempt.”

“Never’s a long time,” Gavin suddenly grinned. “And just think about all of those times we would’ve missed.”

“I know,” Adam sighed and leaned in to give him a few gentle kisses. “That’s why I’m glad you guided me.”

Gavin seemed lost in thought for a minute so Adam resumed playing with his hair until he was ready to discuss whatever it was he was mulling over.

“You’ll tell me if I hurt you?” Gavin asked shyly.

“Mmm hmm. Promise.”

“Okay then,” Gavin nodded.

“Yeah?” Adam asked excitedly.

“Yeah,” Gavin laughed.
