Fellow Hunters

“Want some ice cream or something?” Ice asked Celeste, she nodded enthusiastically.

Ice led her into the kitchen, Candy walked with Kay the coffee, Kay was a coffee addict. Candy preferred tea.

“So what happened, it was supposed to be a routine extermination, then Ice calls me and says you’re at Bade’s, now you’ve got a little kid with you.”

“The kid was an accident, she ran out in front of the car…”

“Where is My old Nissan anyway?”

“Flipped it.”

“Damn it Candy, I liked that car.” Kay stirred her coffee. Candy crossed her arms and leaned up against the wall.

“There were at least a dozen ghosts chasing her…I’ve seen two or maybe even three at one time, but never more than that, it was unbelievable.”

“How’d you manage to kill all of them…” Kay looked very concerned.

“I didn’t. The girl did…well she paralyzed them, or something, its hard o explain.”

“You think she’s another experiment?”

“If she is then they have been busy, I’ve never seen something so powerful…”

“Nathan will be quiet interested in all of this.” As they sat down they were joined by ice and Celeste (who had a huge bowl of chocolate ice cream). Ice had some eggs and grits.

The pair of swinging doors opened and a tall black man with crutches limped in. by his side was a teenage boy with curly black hair and braces.

“Candy you bitch! I thought that was your sorry hide on the security monitor…” the black man called out.

“Mike you ass…what you do go and got yourself shot again?”

“Worse, damn ghost took a chunk out of the back of my leg.” The black man, who was actually Haitian, sat down next to Ice and clapped him on the shoulder. He was wearing a bright red shirt that came down to his knee’s, he was also wearing a beaded red, white and blue necklace, at the bottom a Haiti flag. His hair was very short. He could have passed for 20.

“Where was Phillip when this was going on?” Ice mused

“Trying to get the safety of off his damn gun.”

“I told you…it was stuck…” the black haired boy replied. He was blushing slightly.

“Yeah stuck enough that you almost blew my head off!”

Phillip couldn’t have been more than fourteen or fifteen, he was about 5’5’’ and pretty scrawny. He had only been here a couple of months, him and his older sister Angela. They’re parents had been killed by Gavin, one of the top men at the Facility. They had been sneaking information to Nathan. Kay had brought them both back.

“Don’t worry about it Phillip, first time Ice went out with Candy, he actually DID shoot her.” Kay laughed.

“I only grazed her…” Ice seemed to be pouting.

Phillip seemed to brighten up at this. He was a cute boy, with dark brown eyes and childish smile, he resembled his sister a lot.

“Hey Phil go ask Carson to cook me up some of those grits…” Mike pointed to the kitchen.

“Hey while you’re at it have him make up some bacon too.” Kay winked at him.

“Alright.” Phillip didn’t look to happy about being used as a messenger, but he didn’t complain.

“So how’d he really do?” Candy asked as soon as Phillip was out of earshot.”

“He’s got a lot to learn, but he learns fast. I think he did damn good for a rookie. His aims decent, and his hearts in the right place.”

“He’s a good kid, him and Angela both.” Ice agreed.

“I’m going to be taking Angie out with me this afternoon.” Candy stared at the table.

“Good, its about time, she needs the practice.” Kay nodded her approval.
“Have fun with that girl, she’s a walking train wreck.”

“Come on Mike, we all sucked in the begging.” Kay frowned.

“Just keep telling yourself that.” Mike smiled as Phillip walked back with a tray filled with Food. Grits, eggs, ham, and bacon. The hunters dug in. Celeste blinked as she watched them gorge on the food.

“Whose the girl anyway Candy?” Mike said with a mouthful of grits.

“Her name is Celeste, we kinda ran into her.”

“She’s going to be staying here with us.”

“Can she talk?”

“Yes…” Celeste’s voice was soft and timid.

Mike shrugged.

“I gotta get going, me and Phil got to go into the safe zone and see about some information.”

“Just try not to get shot ok?” Kay raised a brow.

“Yes Mam.” Mike said with a laugh.

Mike and Philip left. Ice yawned. “Those two are getting on pretty good I’d say.”

“I think that they are good for eachother.
