Chapter 8

I know you are all eager to hear what happens to Bronwyn and Gabriel. I don.t have alot past the point I've posted but so many of you have given me wonderful reviews that I feel obliged to give you the little I have. I am really trying to write more but my class schedule is a little difficult to traverse, but here's what I've got so far. Enjoy! ;P

“Spread the blanket out right here. I want to be under the open sky.”

Gabriel obligingly put the blanket where I told him. I sure hoped he was going to like what I had in mind. I know I was.

“Now you stay here and count to twenty then come find me,” I said turning to leave.

“What! We’re playing hide and seek, are you crazy?”

I turned back around and pressed myself against him so he felt every luscious curve of my body. I grabbed his head and gave him what I hope was a passionate kiss. I pulled away and looked at his heavy lidded eyes.

“Your going to have to work for this prize wolf boy, but don’t worry, it’ll be worth it. I promise you that.”

“God Bronwyn, are you really sure?”

“You ask that again and we’ll get back in the car. Start Counting.”

“One,” he rumbled as I took off into the woods. He could easily follow my trail so I had to confuse him.

“Two.”

I double back, and then I hear a stream nearby. I start making my way to it.

“Five.” I hear Gabriel say. Where the hell did three and four go?”

“Eight.” He says when I step into the creek. I make my way upstream for a ways.

“Thirteen.” I hear when I step out and start making converging scent trails.

“Twenty. Ready or not love here I come.”

I dive into a bush and try to control my breathing. I heard Gabriel splashing in the creek. Damn he was good. Then he runs past my hiding spot. I don’t think I’ve tricked him for a minute. I get up and race toward the spot where we laid the blanket. Not soon after I hear Gabriel crashing through the woods behind me.

“Hey no fair. I found you, aren’t you supposed to stop?” Gabriel yelled at me.

“When I play, you have to catch the person. I told you that you had to work for it,” I yelled back.

“I’m starting to think that this isn’t going to be worth all this trouble,” Gabriel yells at me.

I let his words go unnoticed. I’m getting close to where we put the blanket. Was I really going to do this? I’ve only known Gabriel for less than a week and already I had basically agreed to marry him. Who would have thought that Bronwyn Auchmuty, the poster girl for propriety, would be running through the woods acting like a complete sexual vixen?

I could see the clearing and the blanket, my hopes soared, I was almost there. Then I was looking at the ground. I looked down to my feet; I had tripped over a root that was sticking up out of the ground. My ankle hurt and I would have bruises and scrapes in the morning. Gabriel came upon me and picked me up.

“God, even with werewolf grace you still manage to be a klutz. I think we’ve tarried long enough, we need to get to the meeting,” He said putting me in the car. Once he folded up the blanket, started the car, and we were on the road I ventured to speak.

“I’m sorry,” I said miserably.

“For what sweet?” Gabriel asked.

“For leading you on and getting your hopes up. Now the night is all ruined,” I said near tears.

“It’s not ruined Bronwyn, far from it. I admit I was looking forward to when I caught you, but obviously this wasn’t the right time.”

“Maybe, but now I look like a mess and I wanted to look nice for the first meeting with my new ‘people’. What kind of impression am I going to make looking like this?” I asked in misery. I looked down at myself and tried to pick off the leaf debris and dried mud that was on the front of my jeans and blouse.

“You look like you just came back from a run in the woods. Bronwyn, believe me when I say that you absolutely beautiful and I’m so glad you chose me.”

“I’m glad I chose you too.”
