Shai's Baby

Chapter 8 – Shai’s Baby

“This seems almost familiar,” Yuki commented, looking around the waiting room of the hospital at the massive amount of the guests there waiting for Shai to have her baby. Kyoei was pacing in front of the entrance, though several nurses and doctors had told him to move. Shinji was in there with his daughter, holding her hand, and hopefully not passing out. Shinwa sat beside Yuki, looking somewhere between being elated, and nervous. Fuji looked paler by the minute, but everyone was brushing it off as her sister having a child. Noriko, Teiyoku, and Devilin had come as soon as they heard the news, though many people were questioning the reasoning to them being there. The only person really missing was Amatsu, who no one had been able to contact because of school.

“There are some slight differences,” Shinwa pointed out. “Fuji’s on this side instead of Shai.”

“And Shai isn’t dying,” Fuji pointed out cheerily.

“Devilin’s here in Amatsu’s place.”

“Don’t put it that way,” snarled Fuji with enough venom that Kyoei stopped pacing for a moment to glance over in the direction of the other friends that were there in worry of Shai. He did not pay attention long, he continued to pace once again and another nurse told him to move away from the doors and sit down. He blatantly ignored them.

“Well, I just meant we seem to spend way too much time around hospitals,” Yuki pointed out.

“She has a point,” Kyoei agreed from his point in pacing.

Teiyoku looked just as nervous about Shai’s pregnancy. It was hard for anyone to keep their eyes off of the man as he bit on the cup of coffee he was pretending to drink. His leg was moving rapidly up and down from the nerves and they all knew he wanted to bust in there and see her. It was the first sign of real feeling from him. No one was sure if he wanted to be with Shai, or if he wanted to see his child, but he was fighting to stay in the chair, and it was becoming a losing battle.

“You know, some women are in labor for thirty-two hours,” Shinwa pointed out loudly enough for both men to hear. However, it did very little for the women’s nerves as well and Yuki and Fuji both reached over and smacked his shoulder.

“I am not looking forward to this part of being a mother,” Yuki sighed heavily.

“Will being a mother figure in before or after your career as a video game designer?” Shinwa asked her, looking down at her with his usual coy smile, but there was something else to that smile that darkened Yuki’s mood.

“During,” she said proudly. “I will bring little Rikku to work with me every day.”

“Rikku?” Shinwa asked. “Like the Final Fantasy X character?”

“Of course,” Yuki admitted proudly. “I will be working for Square-Enix, so I will let them know how much I support their games by naming all of my little darlings after their characters.”

“Stop,” Fuji snapped before Shinwa could say anything. “Everyone’s nerves are shot, and you two arguing about stupid things is not going to help the situation any.”

Everyone fell silent. It was obvious something was bothering the private school student, other than her younger sister having a baby. No one wanted to breech any more subjects, however, since everyone seemed to be a little edgy.

A doctor walked out and stopped in front of Kyoei. He looked up at him and said, “You must be the father.”

Everyone jumped to attention and literally began jumping out of the chairs, walking over to the doctor. Teiyoku pushed forward and said, quite proudly, “No, I’m the father.”

The doctor looked up and Teiyoku and stuck out his hand, shaking Teiyoku’s hand firmly. Kyoei looked ready to brain the tennis coach and teacher, but Shinwa’s standing in front of him kept him from leaping. “Congratulations,” the doctor was telling Teiyoku. “You are the father of a very healthy baby boy.”
