Mary Jackson
(Okay, I promised the game but I’m going to be dragging it out a bit I’ve decided. Feed my starving self with plenty of reviews and the chapters will come sooner. Cause, I’ve already wrote a lot of it, but I’ll be holding some back for suspense… hehe…”
Miriam: You think it’s good? (blush) Really? Really truly absolutely? (tears) I don’t mean to be so forward… but will you marry me? (new voice) Oh, I am SO sorry, she forgot to take her medication, you see…
Boy, don’t I just crack myself up? Sad, really…
Regina smoothed out the skirt of her cheerleader uniform and tucked her hair behind her ear. Jimmy would be there to pick her up in a moment. He hated driving out here…
She rested on the windowsill and stared at her wall and smiled slightly. She’d put up posters of several actors and actresses to cover the peeling brown green walls. She smiled at Whoopi Goldberg, Jensen Ackles, Demi Moore, an oh-so-hot male model whose name she couldn’t remember.
She walked in front of a slightly cracked floor length mirror and checked her reflection.
She heard a car drive up.
“That’ll be Jimmy-boy…’
She went downstairs and creeped past the smoke filled living room with an annoying commercial playing on the TV.
“That you Regina?” a hoarse from smoke voice called from in front of the TV.
She sighed. “Yeah Mom I’m going out”
“With who?”
Regina sighed. “Don’t feel the need to start minding me Mother”
“You watch your mouth you little bitch” Mary Jackson pulled herself out of the armchair where she ruled supreme with the remote and plodded to the window. “That James McBride’s boy I see out there”
“Yes Mother. May I go now” she asked insolently.
“Quarterback isn’t he” she pulled a cigarette from a pack and lit up. “My, my, how things work out” she laughed around the cigarette. “I dated the quarterback–”
“As well and he was going to marry you but then he married that Anne White” Regina chorused with her mother in perfect harmony. “Anything new, MOTHER?” she ground out.
“Cause I kind of have places to go”
Mary turned to look at her, rage filling her eyes. “You little bitch do you think you can get what I didn’t, do you think that boy will marry you?!” she was in Regina’s face by now. “you keep giving it up you little whore that boy will leave you, dump you, marry another woman and all your hair flipping and short skirts will all be for nothing, nothing, NOTHING!!!!” she screamed and Regina pressed herself back in the wall.
Mary deflated. “Sex and the City is coming on” and she shuffled back to her chair, sitting and facing the TV, away from Regina.
Regina squeezed her eyes shut and pressed her lips together. When the feeling rising in her throat subsided she took a breath and slowly pulled herself off the wall. She jumped as a horn screeched from outside. Jimmy must be getting impatient. She half ran for the door on weak legs.
Coming out of the house everything seemed bright. It always did. She slid into Jimmy’s Jag and smiled tightly.
“Jeez babe what took you so long?” He sniffed. “Hey, why do you smell like smoke? You told me you hated the smell of tobacco”
“I do. It’s secondhand.”
“Huh. Well, let’s hit the road” he tooted the horn and burned rubber.
