Chapter Eight
He could only stare at the blank screen in front of him. Had he said something wrong? Had he really imagined the connection that was between them? No he hadn’t. He knew Alexis well and could tell, even though an emotion could not be show through simple typing, that something was really wrong. Alexis had once joked about him coming and setting her free from the hell which she had lived most of her life. What had happened that could have made her shy away like that? She had told him things about herself that no one else knew. He had to admit t himself he was worried.

Alexis didn’t know what to do. T was true she did hang around for ten minutes or so after both of them had said goodnight and on occasion one of them would break the rule and write something more. But what did she tell him now, if anything. Why was she pulling back when he was offering her something amazing? He knew of the beatings she had taken over the years from the bullies and from her mother. He would understand why she would be covered with bruises. What was holding her back? If he turned her away then maybe then she would know that was the end of everything. It would be the nail in the coffin so to speak. She set herself to online.

After packing Theo laid on his bed as stared out at the night on the other side of the window. He had to admit there were things he hadn’t told her but for good reason. There were still areas of his life he felt touchy about revealing. But once the first meeting was over he would be able to decide if she was the one he hoped she was.
Alexis was staring at the same sky. She couldn’t believe she had gone from such misery to such happiness. This was going to be real. It had to work. She couldn’t help lying him the way she did. And she did with the remaining pieces of her heart.
