A/N: This is a bit of a teaser. Mostly because I need to do some editing.. Thank you to the four, er two, technically, as two of your are Liz, who have reviewed. I have found some plot holes, and due to lack of anybody else's feedback, am finding it necessary to fix them. When I add the rest of this chapter, I'll point out where I made changes.

Sunshine and Shadow
Chapter Seven and a Half

~~I stared at Shi sadly, as she turned away from me. Her dark hair was blowing in the whipping breeze. The air was turning cold, turning towards winter. "Why?" I whispered, hoping the winds would carry my question away leaving it unanswered. But the universe had another plan. She turned towards me, slowly and reached to caress my ears, a touch between family, friends, platonic friends.

"I need to know. I need to understand. I would not leave you here, waiting for me, in the event that I never returned."

"I will wait for you. Forever. You know that. And yet...still you," my throat constricted as she pulled away.

"Lyn'ia, do no understimate the length of forever. The world calls to me, in a way that it will never call to you. I must leave, I must learn. I must explore. I only wish your happiness. This life would not make you happy."

"Being with you, that would make me happy." I used my eyes to plead with her, trying to will her to see how much I loved her. Trying to make her see how much I would endure for her.

She hugged me then, softly, caressing my ears again. "Lyn'ia, I will return one day, and you will have a partner and a family of your own. This will make you happy, not traipsing about the universe with me." She kissed me lightly upon the c and and walked away, drawing her grey cloak about her.

I stood beneath the stars, wind whipping about, staring until I could see her silouhette no longer. "I will wait forever," I whispered to the wind. "No matter how long it may last." ~~~
