Ch.7 Closer to Death
Amber awoke to an odd feeling on her lips. Soft, warm, someone had their lips on hers. Her eyes fluttered open, but when they did all she saw was the ceiling above her. She could have sworn she just felt someone kissing her. Amber sat up slowly, her body aching and feeling weak, as she looked around the room.
The door to her room opened and in walked in Dunkin. She was stunned for a moment as he walked over to her. What did he want?
“How are you feeling?” He asked in a serious tone.
Amber had to clear her throat before she answered, “ I, um, a little weak and thirsty…”
His icy blue eyes stared at her a moment before he nodded, “Alright, I will be right back.” He got up and left as if it was normal for him to take care of her.
What the hell was going on? Amber looked down at her hands that were wrapped up and examined them. She could understand Jessica, or anyone else, to come in and check on her, but not DUNKIN!
Didn’t he hate her or something? Well hate was going a bit over board. It was more of a, you are insignificant and food, meaning he saw her as a thing not a person. Amber unwrapped her hands to find her scratches healed. Her attention turned to the door as Dunkin entered the room once again.
He handed her a glass of water and Amber took it. She didn’t realize just how thirsty she was until the cool water touched her lips. She drank the water as if it were her life source and let out a sigh once she was done.
Dunkin took the glass and placed it on the table. “Jessica is out today, she asked me to take care of you. Don’t think that I am doing this because we are friends or something.” He stated as he looked over the wounds on her hands.
She stared at him as he continued to do things while trying not to make eye contact with her. As Dunkin moved to throw away her bandages Amber decided to ask, “So you are the only one here?”
“Yes.” he said as he walked back over to her.
“Then did you kiss me?” She asked.
Dunkin didn’t stop and continued to the bed until he sat down next to it, but Amber didn’t miss the blush that covered his cheeks, “I don’t know what your talking about.”
Amber smirked but decided to drop the subject, “Can I at least get out of bed?”
Dunkin smirked, “Sorry, Jessica says you have to stay in bed all day. As punishment for almost killing yourself.”
Amber paled, “So you know, now?”
He nodded, “Yes. As a result of you using your power, part of your life force is taken away. If you do another stunt like you did last night, you will die.”
Amber frowned, “It was that bad?”
Dunkin nodded, “Yeah. Jessica was very up set at me for not protecting you better.”
Amber frowned, “Yeah. I should have known better than to go into that alley way.”
“Don’t beat yourself up over it. You are just a weak human.”
Amber glared at him for a moment, “Yeah…just a weak human that you KISSED!”
Again, there was a blush on the man’s cheeks, and Amber tried not to laugh. “I did NOT! Why do you insist that I kissed you?”
Amber shrugged, “You are the only one here. Who else could have done it.”
Dunkin frowned, “But I wasn’t in the room when you woke up.”
“Vampires are very quick and quiet. You could have slipped out very easily without me knowing.”
Dunkin sighed as if tiered of arguing, “You must have a fever or something, because there is no way that I would kiss a human. Not unless they were going to give me their blood afterwards.” He smirked and turned to look at Amber. “Where you going to give me your blood?”
Amber blushed at the predatory look that Dunkin was giving her, “Hell no!”
“Oh, then there is definitely no way I would kiss you then.” Dunkin got up and headed towards the door.
“Y-your just going to leave me here by myself?!” Asked Amber as he reached for the door. “I’ll be board to death!”
“And what do you want me to do? Entertain you?” He asked as he turned to look at her. One icy blue eye gazing at her while the other was hidden by a curtain of inky black hair.
“You could, you know, talk to be until the others come back.” Though heaven only knew what they would talk about.
Dunkin sighed, “Fine. Just no more talk of me kissing you. Because it didn’t happen.”
Dunkin moved to sit next to her on the bed while Amber laid against the bed’s head board. For a moment they sat in awkward silence. Amber trying not to concentrate on the male beside her, or the fact that he was in her bed.
“You ever think about turning into a vampire?” Dunkin asked in a serious tone.
Amber turned to look at him only to find him staring up at the ceiling. “I really haven’t given it much thought.”
“What about Jessica. If you stay human, she would have to suffer life without you, and I know for a fact she would probably kill herself first.” Dunkin moved his ice blue eyes to look at Amber.
She looked at Dunkin with a sudden fear. “I never thought of it that way.”
“Well, now that you have thought about it, would you turn if only for her?” He asked curiously.
“Yeah, I probably would.” She frowned, “But I don’t know if she would approve of it.”
Dunkin unconsciously leaned closer to Amber, “The majority of the human population are now turned. So it wouldn’t be abnormal. It actually might be expected.”
“But if that’s true, what happens when the vampires run out of human blood?” Amber asked nervously as she realized that Dunkin was moving closer to her, and her lips.
“There are more humans on other planets. We will never run out.” He whispered as his hand came up to her neck where he let a finger run down the side of her throat.
That finger then ran back up her throat to her jaw to tilt her head up just slightly. Amber became completely still as the vampire leaned forward and pressed his lips lightly her hers. For a moment she couldn’t breath, was this really happening?
