Oh, God, was it morning again? I can’t seem to ever end my complains about these dreadful mornings. I made a grimace that I was sure could make the dead come alive with shock, and moaned loudly. Why, oh why.. To awake from peaceful slumber into the horrid of day. And especially when mornings would bring with them all the shit that I’d have to live with for the rest of my life. I wished it was all just a dream and turned my back against the alarm clock with the hope that it would go away once I chose to ignore it.
It stopped! ‘Yey! What I have longed for for 16 years now is finally…’
“Get up you lazy bastard!” Doh -_-
I gave Vaan my finger, but instead he grabbed hold of my sheets and did what I utterly hate: dragged them off me! “NOOOOOOOO!!!”, I yelled and grabbed a hold of them last minute before he was able to pull them out of my reach. “Give me my warmth! I’ll die!!!!” “You big baby, breakfast is ready and you need to get ready f…” I ripped my sheets back and tried to kick him away from them, but he held on and…
“Ouch! Watch it!”, I shrieked. “Get away from my sheets you little… Eeeek! Get off me!!!!” “You pulled me here!”, he yelled back. “You have muscles, now move it! Away! Be gone! I swear, I BITE!”
He jumped off of me and back down to the floor. “You DO bite, that’s for sure. I’ve NEVER seen anyone as grumpy as you.” “Thanks for the compliment, now what are you doing in my room?”, I groaned back from underneath my pillow, in denial of that I was actually quite awake by now. “Your mom sent me to wake you up, sweetheart. Now get a move on it.” “Fine! Go away!”
“Will you get up then?”, he smirked. “AAARRRRGH!” A pillow flew with the speed of light, shooting out from the bed, and with deadly precision… it failed to hit Vaan and dumped onto the closet instead. It didn’t even have the dignity to slam into the closet. Just dump against it. I could hear Vaan trying to choke his laugh and shot him an evil glare. Poof! Works like magic.

“Morning class!”, miss Truemoor greeted us. Yes, I had finally come to remember the name of our honored English teacher. I grunted a weak hello and tried to put the start of this morning behind me. Although it could have been worse. Still no excuse!
Guess who came to walk us to school today? Yupp. Vaan got himself a whole little group of fan girls. They rang the doorbell just when I had gotten down for breakfast and then I was only able to grab a slice of bread with me and run to get my backpack and then we were off. ‘Why did we have to go so early anyway?’, I pouted in my mind, ‘We got to school ten minutes before lessons started! Ten whole minutes!’
Vaan had been sweet enough to refuse letting me walk behind them though. He even introduced me to them. Sweet Valeria, with her angelic curls and perfect smile, and Nicole, another senior, probably from Vaan’s class, student council member and as far as I’d noticed she was in the league of those who knows everyone worth knowing. That apparently included Vaan. And me all of a sudden. And then there was Katie, a girl I hadn’t noticed before, but she kept on and on about some party that had been and about cheerleading practices and about some party that was going to be this weekend and how much she was simply dying for a date. Followed by a revealing cleavage and hints she didn’t even try to wrap into decency.
I guess they were okay. Yeah. Whatever. I was just getting dragged along with the circus.
During our recess before lunch break our class got the grand honor of getting visited by some certain seniors. I was day dreaming, staring out the window, interrupted by some loud voices and laughs. Nathan had entered and got glomped by Anna, then he tickled her to let go of him resulting in some frenetically screams of laughter.
‘They are so cute.’
‘Hey! Did I just smile?!’
‘Yeah. They ARE cute.’
Then the guy with the hot lips came, oh, what was his name.. Joshua! “Hi!”, he nodded in my direction. I felt my cheeks burn again and shoot my eyes down, afraid that he‘d read my thoughts. And then Vaan of course, he nonchalantly passed Anna and ignored the stares of the female half of my class, making his way towards me.
I’d tell him to go away and leave me alone, not bring his buddies to my class and disturbing the peace of my day dreams. But under the pressure of others I felt staring at us I held back and met his eyes. “What now?”, I asked as he approached. “Look!”, he pointed out the window. “I’m so not gonna fall for that one.” He sighed and turned my head with his hands. I was about to complain about him touching me, when something caught my interest. Out there on the yard some teachers were running after a woman. Well, not running, but they seemed to be having a hard time catching up with her as she quickly walked around.
“School inspection.”, I heard a voice to my right, Vaan was leaning over me from behind, and Nathan nearly pushed me out of the way from my right trying to get a glimpse out the window. Joshua joined in and I was trapped in the middle of three seniors.
Joshua laughed. “Sheeez, look at them running after her, trying to impress the poor woman.” I hated to admit it, but feeling like a part of a group stared to feel nice. I wanted them to stay here by my window, me squeezed up between them, it was cozy. “Open it up!”, Nathan demanded and Vaan reached over my head and got the window up. Then we all leaned out to catch the last glimpse of the group before they turned a corner to the back of our school. I sighed. “Why was that important to show me?”, I directed my question to Vaan.
I could feel his breath down my neck and his chest close to my back. “That woman,”, he whispered to me, “..is Lady B. And whatever you do.. Don’t tell her.” I got a fuzzed look on my face. Nathan and Joshua jumped off me and headed for the door, “Come on Vaan, Michelle’s classroom is the perfect location for the next scene.”
They both laughed. “That inspector is gonna unleash hell, you can just see it in her eyes, they practically forced Jefferson to his knees.” Vaan smirked at me, “Want to join in?” I looked to the watch, class was about to start again soon, so I just shook my head and said no. He was about to leave, then suddenly he reached out for my neck. I jumped a little, and then realized that he was pulling my sweater up. I looked at him, and he smiled a little again, “It had just slid down a bit...” Then he rushed after the other two guys and was gone.
“Helle! You will sit with us for lunch, right?”, Nina yelled from the other side of the room as the bell told us it was time for our 40 minute break. ‘An excuse, an excuse…’ “Uhm, yeah, I’ll get there a bit late though, gotta.. Go.. Find something.. I left my lunch in my .. Locker!”
‘Great plan’
I nervously pulled my sweater up and came close to hiding half of my face in it. Then I grabbed my bag and walked slowly out of the room, taking my time. Did I even have a locker? As far as I knew they were short on lockers and since I got here at spring, I think I remember them telling me that they didn’t have any left for me. I felt stupid for telling such a bad excuse, but I’d feel just as stupid sitting with them.
He’d probably be there too, laughing and being all cute and charming.
I walked pass the lockers and took a peek at the other students running around, then slid out the door and outside to the fresh air. ‘Cool. I’ve been able to use 4 minutes… Next stop, the other side of the yard.’
I walked around like an idiot for the next 5 minutes and then came to the conclusion that this was indeed stupid and just lame and headed back for the cafeteria. I took left around a corner and came to the front doors when a motorcycle roared it’s way up to me. Heads turned to look, just as me. I jumped back, the driver stopped close to me, who was standing by the doors, and he lifted his helmet off.
Dark brown hair hid his eyes, then the guy brushed it away and took a look at me who was quick to look away, but not quick enough for him not to look me in the eyes. Deep brown eyes. I swallowed and grabbed a hold of the door to get inside and hide when suddenly the door slammed open resulting in me tripping in my own feet and almost falling.
I yelped and got my balance back. “Jerome! You sure take your time! I’ve been here since 9 already!”, a woman yelled at the guy. I looked up. The inspector! She stood tall with high heels and had her hair in a tight pony tail. She looked young for an inspector when I got her this close. “Yeah yeah..”, the guy replied and opened his leather biker jacket. Out popped the head of two cats! “You brought them along!? Sheeez, Jerome...” He grinned at her. Gosh, he was so delicious when he smiled… I was melting. Then I came to my senses, wiped the drool off of my face, rushed inside the building and headed straight for the cafeteria.
“Helle, there you are!”, Nina shouted and smiled at me. She was on her way to the cafeteria when I met up with her and handed me a load of papers. “I have your notes!”, she seemed relieved that she didn’t have to carry them around with her any longer and got into the cafeteria in front of me. She waved at Anna who was already at our table. Yes. Our table. Or their table. Gah.
“You are late!”, Anna pouted. “I was all alone here!” I glanced at the other people by the table, a girl with brown curls and pink lip gloss didn’t look offended at all, and neither did the two other girls that were giggling about something and throwing secret glances at each other. We sat down and I got my lunch up from my bag. Why not just sit here? I should get used to eating with others and not alone.
The girls immediately began chit chattering and I was about to ignore them when suddenly Nina stopped in the middle of her sentence. She was staring at something behind me, so was Anna and the girl with brown curls, so I cast a glance behind me towards the hallway that lead to the cafeteria.
It was that guy again, the one with the bike. He shot a glance in towards the cafeteria but passed it, and soon he was out of vision. I heard Nina and Anna whispering “Who was that?” “I don‘t know, he was gorgeous..!” I turned back to them. Maybe I should tell what I knew so far. Actually talk to them.
“He’s with the inspector.”, I informed them, “I saw them talking not too long ago, he just came here. On his bike.”, then I grinned. Yes, his utterly cool bike. I couldn’t help it; it was so fun to watch Nina and Anna widen their eyes at the word “bike”. “Really? Gosh.. It’s so unfair. All the cute guys are always out of reach. Why’d they always have to be so much older?” “Or live far away.”, Nina shot in, “He didn’t look that old though?” “Don’t you have Nathan?”, I asked Anna. Personally I thought Nathan was a good looking guy, although a little too obsessed with his looks. “Yeah, yeah, whatever.”, she mumbled. I smiled a little. Believe it or not, but this was the first time I felt somewhat comfortable with these girls. And it was just me, not Vaan’s favor this time.
-..-..-..-..-..-..-..-..-
“Wait up!” Vaan caught up with me as I was heading out the gates. He started walking next to me, and I turned to him a little surprised, but couldn’t think of anything to say. He remained silent for a while as well. I looked to him again, but Vaan stared right ahead. I couldn’t hold it back much longer, desperate for a subject to talk about.
“Okay, so who’s Lady B?”, I suddenly blurted out. Vaan gave me a wild look and started to walk faster. “Hey, wait now..” “Lady B is a woman who knows a great deal. And you would need to exercise carefulness around that woman.” “Why do we care about her?” “She will come to see your family. If you keep your mouth shut we might get away from it without any harm done. If you speak...“ His gaze pierced into mine, leaving the rest of the sentence unsaid.
I swallowed and whispered “What is she? A demon?” He just looked at me without replying. Finally he spoke, “No. She’s a huntress. It is better you know nothing about that. Try to forget what I just told you. And for all that is sacred: don’t tell her about.. What you know. Destruction follows in her footsteps.”
He was scared of this woman, something that scared me too. I had never seen Vaan like this. Truly terrified of something.
