Chapter 7
Chapter 7
"You fucking bastard, I told you I didn't want to be fucking carried!" Pan yelled from his position slung over Xane's shoulder.
There was a tsking sound from the demon as they continued moving rooftop to rooftop, never slowing down, "Jeez, you've got a mouth on you, don't you?"
"Fuck you, asshole! And where the hell is my bookbag?!" Pan suddenly asked but when he realized that the said item was no longer on his back like it was before Xane decided to play rag doll with him.
"Relax, I've got it here." Xane responded, patting the bag that he was carrying on his other shoulder, not that Pan could see anyway with the position he was currently in.
Seething, Pan snapped back, "I am not going to 'relax', not when you've got me thrown over your fucking shoulder!"
"Oh, would you calm down? You're just drawing more attention to yourself by being so noisy."
"What?" Pan turned his head to the side but could see nothing except blurs of color that was making his stomach churn. Frowning at the back of Xane's head, he muttered, "Just to let you know, I hate you."
To which Xane cheerfully replied, "Yeah, I think you've told me that before."
Getting desperate to end his humiliation, Pan tried another tactic to get the demon to release him, "Couldn't you at least carry me in a way that didn't have my ass getting shown off to the world?"
"But this way gives me such a good view."
"Pervert."
"Prude."
"Gods, how the hell can someone so old be so fucking immature!?"
"I'm not the cussing up a storm, am I?" Xane replied and Pan just knew that the bastard was smirking at him once again.
"Infants don't cuss either and I don't hear anyone calling them mature and sophisticated." Pan shot back, and he could hear the demon chuckle, "Oooh, touché."
Suddenly noticing the hand on his thigh that was making its way a bit too high for comfort, Pan elbowed the demon in the back, "You feel me up, and I swear I'm going to kick your ass."
Thankfully the hand stopped moving, but not before Xane said, "Now that would be something to see, a human beating up a demon 400 years older than him."
There was a pause before, "Shut up, asshole." Pan could hear Xane laughing at him and attempted to swing his legs to try to catch the demon in the stomach, which only caused Xane to laugh harder. Grumbling under his breadth, Pan was about to complain about how long it was taking to get to there when Xane suddenly announced, "We're here!"
There was a sudden stop and then Pan was stumbling slightly when he was suddenly deposited back on his feet. Bending over, hands on his knees, Pan tried to calm his stomach as his lunch and what he had drank at the coffee shop threatened to make a return appearance. Once feeling slightly more settled he straightened up, almost dropping the book bag Xane tossed his way. Quickly putting several feet between the two of them, Pan flashed a glare at the demon before looking at their destination, which was an old, large stone building, the architecture reminding him of a cathedral, only without the religious representation that one would normally see. "This is a library?"
Xane grinned, "Yep."
"It's huge." Pan commented, glancing at Xane before looking back at the towering white building.
"Yep."
"Can you say anything other than yep?"
"Yep."
Pan sighed in annoyance, rubbing at his eyes tiredly before readjusting the strap of his backpack, "Alright, let's get this whole study thing over with."
Xane frowned at him, "You know, it's not like this is the most horrible thing in the world. It's just a study session. It's not like it's going to kill you or something."
"Sure if you say so." Pan mumbled under his breadth as he started up the stairs of the lavish building, hearing Xane chuckle behind as he reached for the handle of one of the ornate, large wooden doors, but the door wouldn't even budge. Trying the other he frowned when he got the same result, and his frown turned into a scowl when he heard Xane full on laughing at him.
"Is there something funny?" He snapped over his shoulder at the demon.
Noticing the sour way Pan was looking at him, Xane sobered slightly and offered him smile, "Would you like me to get that for you?"
"What are you talking about? It's locked." Pan yanked on the handle again to demonstrate this fact, but Xane wasn't listening, instead he walked past Pan and grabbed the handle of the door, easily swinging it wide open before steeping aside for Pan. "See, no problem."
Pan glared at Xane but hesitated on going in, fully realizing that once those doors closed he was stuck inside that library with no way out unless Xane or another demon helped him. Xane frowned when Pan didn't move, "Something wrong?"
"Uhh… No… It's fine." Pan mumbled walking through the door, feeling increasingly uneasy as Xane closed the door behind them, sealing him inside the library. Blinking to adjust to the dimness inside, Pan looked around at the room they were in, noting the high-vaulted ceiling that looked at least three stories tall and elaborate carvings into the pillars and walls. But there were no books, anywhere. Just a circular island in the middle of the room, a couple young demons working behind the high counter top, the computers they were working on looking highly out of place in the ancient building.
"I thought you said this was a library?" Pan whispered to Xane, wincing at how loud his voice still sounded in the cavernous room.
Though Xane made no effort to keep his voice down, so his reply echoed against the wall making him sound even louder than usual. "It is."
"There where are all the books?"
Xane smirked at Pan, and pointed along the walls at the doors the brunette had failed to notice before, "This is just the entrance hall."
"Oh." Pan mumbled, feeling slightly foolish, frowning once again when Xane chuckled slightly and walked past him up to the counter. Following the demon, Pan looked at the two working behind the counter who had yet to even glance over at them. There was a guy and girl, but if it weren't for their different body types there would be no way to tell the difference between the two of them, they were that identical. Both had smooth looking, dark skin, dark purple, shoulder length hair and their eyes were black, not just the pupil but the entire eye, which actually made it hard to tell where exactly they were looking, and Pan had to hold down a shiver at the sheer creepiness of it. What surprised him the most was how young they looked, Pan guessed at the most they were maybe 14 or 15 years old, but couldn't be sure. Xane knocked loudly on the counter top but still neither of them turned their heads, instead they both talked in a monotone voice that sent chills down Pan's spine while they continued to input commands into the computers, "What do you want?"
Xane frowned slightly before his usual grin returned, "We're lo-"
"You'll want room 3-B." The freaky twins responded, cutting Xane off.
"Okay, and wh-"
"That way. You'll need the second section." They both pointed to one of the doors along the right side of the hall, before turning back to their computers.
"Thank y-"
"Whatever." The twins said dismissively, and Xane frowned once again before walking away, toward the door they had pointed them to.
"Wait."
Turning back around, Pan saw that both of the young demons were looking at them, actually, it felt like they were looking at him, but he still couldn't be sure, there was this tingling sensation in the back of his mind that made him pretty certain that he was their main focus right now.
"What is it?" Xane asked, sounding annoyed, and Pan had to fight the urge to stand behind the redhead to get out of sight of the disturbing black eyes.
"His book bag, leave it here."
Xane glanced at Pan, who looked back at him slightly wide-eyed, before turning back to the other demons, "Why?"
He has human technology in it. That's forbidden inside the library."
"Oh, crap. I forgot about that." Xane said with a frown, running a hand through his hair and then snatching Pan's back off his shoulder before the brunette had a chance to react.
Startled, it took Pan several seconds to realize what Xane had just done, but he reached for the bag as soon as he did, "H-hey! That's my stuff!"
"Don't worry, you'll get it back." Xane said as he opened the bag and pulled out few pens and pads of paper before handing the bag over to the twins. "I need your phone as well."
Placing a hand over his back pocket where his phone rested, Pan glared at Xane, "No."
"Pan…"
"No! I'm not giving up my phone!" Pan argued, struggling when Xane grabbed his arm, pulling him close before reaching around and plucking the phone from his back pocket.
"This is bullshit." Pan muttered, pulling out of Xane's grip as the demon passed his phone over as well. "How the heck am I supposed to take notes if I don't have any of my stuff?"
Xane waved the paper and Pan scoffed, crossing his arms and looking away.
Pan could hear Xane chuckle at his behavior before he asked the twins, "Is that it?"
The twins nodded and turned back to their computers, and Xane turned back to the door, leaving Pan to fume silently before he decided to reluctantly follow the redhead. As soon as the door was shut behind them, cutting them off from the freakish twins, Pan turned to Xane, "What the heck was that about?"
Looking sheepish, Xane frowned and kept walking, "Sorry. I forgot that they don't allow human technology."
"Why not?"
"I told you I'm going to help you get your info right?" Xane asked in return, and Pan nodded slowly, "Well, what that actual means is that I'm translating these books for you. Most of them are in a language that isn't known by humans and with no technology to record it that means it stays that way."
Pan fell silent for a while before slowly asking, "If it's so important for information not to leave here, isn't it bad for you to be helping me?"
But Xane just shrugged in response, "Nah, most of the stuff I'll be letting you know isn't that big of a deal. What they're most worried about here isn't so much what is written, but how it was written. As long as humans don't figure out how to translate the documents, the demons stay happy."
"Okay… So what exactly was with the freaky twins? I've never heard of demons that looked like that."
"Demyrs, and Gods, they are creepier than hell. And they're not twins, they all just look exactly the same and then when you get more than one together they do that weird 'mind connect' thing." Xane shivered, "I didn't expect them to be working here."
Pan frowned, "Wait, 'mind connect'? What's that mean?"
"They're mind readers, among other things, and when they get together they kind of tap into each other's subconscious, or something along those lines. When there's just one of them they're not too bad, but like you saw, if you get more than one, then you have to deal with the surround sound answers."
"So… that's how they knew about my laptop and stuff?"
"Yep."
There was a pause before, "And you said they all look exactly like that?"
"Yeah, I don't even know how they're even around still, just think of when they have sex. When your girlfriend looks just like your mom, that's just way too creepy." Xane shivered again and Pan couldn't help but snort. "What? You cannot deny how disgusting that is."
"No, I agree, that's pretty gross. Just it's funny how… passionate you seem to be about this." Pan said with a smirk, looking away and finally noticing the room they were in. The ceiling in this room almost reached the same height as the one before, but rather large difference between the two rooms was this one was lined from top to bottom with shelves full of books, and throughout the middle of the room were long tables that had a few demons sitting at them, surrounded by open books and looking fully engrossed with their tasks. Looking up again Pan saw that there was a balcony about halfway up that ran along both walls, splitting the room into two stories, though he couldn't spot stairs of any sort to get up to that second floor.
"Man, this place is huge…" Pan mumbled as he looked around, and he heard Xane say beside him, "Yeah, and this is just one wing."
Pan looked back to the demon in surprise, "What?"
"Don't you remember? They said room 3-B, as in there are at least two other wings this size. Actually, there are six all together, three on each side. And this is just the first room, 3-A, we need to go through to the next room to get to our destination."
"So how many rooms does this place have?"
"Umm, twelve, two rooms for each wing."
Looking around at the room again, Pan asked, "And everyone is as large as this one?"
"Yep."
"That's incredible."
Xane snorted, "That's what happens when your historians are several centuries old."
"So, what does this room hold?"
"Ummm, books?" Xane responded, looking at Pan questioningly, and the human frowned at him, "No, I meant what kinds of books? Are they fiction, historical, biological…"
"Oh!" A look of realization flashed across Xane's face before he shrugged, "I don't know, to be honest. Every time I've come in here they've sent me to a completely different area, I think they move the books around regularly. To confuse any humans that does come in."
"Well, they definitely achieved that." Pan mumbled, looking around at the numerous books as they approached the end of the long room. Once through another set of ornate doors, down a short hallway way that turned to the left, and through yet another set of doors, they had finally reached their destination, a room that looked just like the other except for not as many demons sitting at the tables. In fact, there were only a couple other demons in there both were completely absorbed in their work.
"Here, you grab a seat, I'll go get some books."
"Alright." Pan sat down at the nearest table, and started looking around again, at first looking at all the details in the railings and pillars that were part of the balcony, though his eyes eventually gravitated toward one of the two demons sharing a room with them. He frowned as he looked at them, thinking something was off when it suddenly hit him, they were young. All of the demons were young. He hadn't seen a single one that could pass as anything older than a sixteen-year-old human. What the heck is going on?
He was still trying to figure it out when there was a sudden, loud boom beside him, causing Pan to jump several inches in his seat before wheeling around to spot… Xane, grinning at him, leaning over the pile of books he had just slammed on the table, "What are you doing, trying to give me a flipping heart attack?!"
Xane offered an apologetic smile, "Sorry, you were zoning out."
"You didn't have to scare me to snap me out of it." Pan mumbled, before suddenly asking, "Why is everyone so young, so far it looks like we're the oldest here."
"No, I'm the oldest here, you're the youngest one here." Xane said with a smirk, before suddenly looking serious, "Look at it his way, I'm over four hundred, yet to you I look like I'm what, twenty something?"
"Yeah…"
"Well, same goes for them, they're all probably somewhere around forty to sixty years old, and while that seems old to you, since these types of demons aren't deemed 'adults' until they reach that hundred year mark, they're stuck studying until then."
"And there's no older demons because…?"
"When you spend close to a century studying almost non-stop, do you really think you'd want to keep studying afterwards? Not only that, but when you live as long as we do, learning about the past just isn't as interesting as it seems to be to you humans. You see so much in your timeline that knowing about someone else's is just…" Xane sighed, looking surprisingly melancholy, "Too much."
Pan frowned at the sudden, almost depressing mood Xane had just entered and decided to ask about something else, "So, these are the books you'll be translating?"
"Hm?" Xane asked distractedly, before suddenly breaking out of the reverie he seemed to have been in, "Oh, right! Sorry, about that. We should probably get started before it gets too late."
Finally actually looking at the load of books Xane had brought, Pan looked skeptical, "Do we really need this many? There's at least a dozen here."
Xane spread the books out so they covered a good portion of the table before pulling one of the largest tomes close to him, "Well, you can never be too careful."
When Xane started to translate the book with out another word, Pan frowned again, "So am I just going to sit here and wait for you to translate that whole book?"
"What? No, of course not. Here." Xane slid a book less than a quarter of the size of the one he was looking through to Pan, "That one is in English for the most part, so start taking some notes out of it."
Looking at the cover, Pan frowned, "Dragonflies, A History?"
"Yep, insect demons, or in mythology they're known as…"
"Fairies, I got it. Though I don't know what could be so exciting about dragonfly demons' history." Pan mumbled as he flicked through the book.
"Not much, why do you think the book's so small?" Xane said with a slight smirk before focusing on his task once again. Pan followed suit, jotting down a few notes when something interesting did pop up but mostly just skimming through. It didn't take long for him to get through that book, and once he had Xane slid him a new one, only slightly bigger than the one before, to start taking notes out of it as well. Only after this happened a few more times did Pan notice that all the books he could read were less than half of the massive volumes Xane seemed to be breezing through as he translated them And after what seemed like only a matter of minutes but was probably much more than that, they were done with that set of books, and ready for the next.
"And you thought that was too many." Xane said with grin, stacking the books up and pushing them to the far end of the table.
Pan gave Xane a disapproving look, "Aren't you going to put them away?"
"Nah, let the creepy kids take care of them. Hang tight, I'll be right back with another load." And then he was gone. Pan glanced around the room to see where Xane had went but couldn't see the demon anywhere, which was surprising, the room was pretty open, and it wasn't like Xane could hide anywhere. Shrugged his shoulders, Pan picked up the few pages of notes he had already jotted down, rubbing at his temple with his free hand as he did so.
"You alright?"
Looking up Pan saw Xane standing beside him with an even larger stack of books, a worried look on his face, "I'm fine, why?"
Xane frowned as he set the books down, "You're rubbing your head. Do you have a headache?"
Pan pulled his hand away and looked at it in slight surprise, not even realizing he had been doing anything. Though now that Xane mentioned it he could feel a slight pressure in his head, a clear warning sign for a headache, but he pushed it aside. "I told you I'm fine. Are there any other books in that pile that I can read?"
"…Yeah, here." Xane said slowly, pushing a few books over to the brunette before opening up one of his own.
Ignoring the building pressure Pan opened up a book as well and began on his notes once again, though now it was taking him a little bit longer than before to get through a book, he had to keep rereading the same lines or he'd skip an important part to have to go back several lines just so things were making sense. The thoughts in his head were getting jumbled and it was getting harder and harder to just stay focused enough to get through the simple task of writing down a sentence that even made sense. Because of all this, it took what seemed like twice as long to get through this set of books, and Pan knew Xane was watching him the whole time, but he didn't want to have to stop just because of a little headache, so he kept pressing on until he was done.
As he was finishing up his last book he heard Xane say beside him, "Maybe I should take you home."
Frowning, Pan jotted down his last note, "I said, I'm fine."
"Pan…"
"I'm done with these books, would you mind getting some more?" Pan asked, ignoring the tone of the demon's voice and the way he was still frowning at him.
"Yeah, stay-"
"Here. I know."
Xane's frown deepened and then he was gone once again, though this time Pan didn't waste time looking for him, instead he looked around the room for some sort of door leading outside. He was used to headaches like these, and all he needed was a little fresh air, a couple minutes outside and he'd be fine. It's what had always worked before and he was certain it would again, so getting up he quickly made his way over to a pair of glass doors that looked as if they went outside, thankful when they opened easily and let him out onto a good-sized balcony. Wait, balcony? He was on the bottom floor, wasn't he? Walking over to the railing, Pan looked down, and saw that somehow even though they had not gone up any stairs, the balcony he was currently on was on what looked like the third floor. That's not possible, is it?
Looking around the area, Pan noticed that the balcony hung over a good size courtyard, and he realized that the library was set up so that the this wing and the one adjacent to it made up most of the perimeter of the courtyard, a high stone wall filling in where the building ended. Then he noticed that the floors where all level, there was no variance in height of the building, which meant… the ground was higher in the front of the building compared to the back? It was possible, but why? And that means there are two levels below the one I'm on, so what's in the other levels?"
As he leaned over the edge of the railing a bit farther to get a better look at the lower levels, a sudden shock of pain went through his head, much more sudden and fiercer than the pressure from before, and it caused him to grip the railing to stabilize himself as his knees threatened to give out. No, no, no, no… Fresh air has always helped before, how can it be even worse now?!
Pan cried out in pain as another shock rang through his head, and he was on the ground, on his knees with hands gripping the side of his head as his brain pounded inside his skull. Somewhere in the back of his mind he thought he heard his name, but all his senses were so out of whack that the only thing he was properly registering was the constant throbbing of pain. And then he was being moved, at first he was set on his feet but when his legs kept giving out on him Pan was completely picked up. There was a sense of movement before he was set in a chair, and whoever had moved him was gone, leaving Pan alone to stew in agony.
After what felt like forever Pan could hear muffled voices, and slowly the pain started to ebb, allowing his brain to start processing what was going on around him once again. Glancing around he realized he was back in the library, sitting in his seat once again, and while his vision was blurry, he could still make out the shape of Xane and one someone else standing a little bit away. Blinking a few times to clear his sight, Pan sat up a little farther, to see that Xane wasn't facing towards him, and that there were actually two other people besides the redhead. It was the two creepy twins from before, with one standing off to the side while the other was in the air, currently being held up by a hand to his throat, courtesy of Xane.
As he began to move more the one off by itself looked in his direction and said something to Xane, looking rather desperate, but Pan couldn't tell what they said, his hearing was still too muffled and it hurt too much to concentrate enough to understand them. Hell, he couldn't even tell if the one Xane was attempting to throttle was the boy or the girl. Xane turned to look at him, before literally tossing the demon he was currently holding across the rooms and into one of the walls, causing a cascade of books on top of the now still demon's form. Pan blinked and Xane was there, crouching in front of him so their faces were mere inches apart and looking at him worriedly.
Xane reached out and tilted Pan's head up a bit, so they were looking eye to eye, and it took quite a bit of concentration to realize that the muffled noise was Xane asking him how he was. "How does your head feel, does it hurt still?"
Pan frowned at the demon, before shaking his head slightly. His head didn't hurt anymore, well at least not as much, now it mostly just… fuzzy, almost numb. Like he wasn't all there right now. He tried to articulate this for Xane but his mouth seemed to refuse to cooperate, so instead he made some sort of strangled noise before giving up when he realized how pathetic he sounded. He looked up at Xane and the demon seemed to understand, nodding slightly before standing up, glancing over to where he had tossed the Demyr earlier and sighing.
"Well, we've better get out of here. I don't think you staying in D-District for any longer would be a good idea." Xane muttered, scratching the back of his head before gathering the two sets of notes that he and Pan had been working on earlier.
"No…" Pan mumbled, glad he was finally starting to regain control of his vocal cords, though not as much as he would like, but Xane just snorted, "Like I'm going to let you stay here with your mind the mess it's in right now? No way in hell. You're going back to your apartment before something worse happens."
Once he had gathered all the notes, Xane stuffed them into Pan's backpack that was sitting close by. Pan frowned, wondering how his backpack had made it over here, but his mind was still to muddled to understand. He was about to attempt to argue more when Xane walked over and suddenly crouched in front of him, so his back was facing Pan.
Xane sat there for a little while before sighing, "Well, come on."
"Wha…?" Pan said in confusing, but Xane didn't respond, just reached back and grabbed his arms, pulling them over his shoulders, before standing up and adjusting Pan's legs so that the brunette was now riding piggy back. "Hey… stop…"
"You sound so convincing right now, Pan." Xane said over his shoulder, though his voice had lost the usual jeering tone, instead he sounded concerned.
"Shut up…" Pan muttered, trying to wiggle out of Xane's grip but failing miserably. While the fuzziness in his head was slowly fading, it was being replaced with a drained, exhausted feeling that made his limbs feel like lead weights were attached to the ends. "I'm fighting you… just to let you know."
Xane snorted before he picked up Pan's backpack again and heading out of the library, back the way they came, "Yeah, I know."
Waiting until they were outside and not getting ogled by the few demons still in the library, Pan asked "What happened?"
There was a sigh from the redhead, "That… damn Demyr was rifling through your thoughts, it's because of him that you're like this."
Pan's brow furrowed, "But… before…"
"Before you were in the same room, and they were working together, remember what I said about the mind connect?"
"Yeah…"
"On their own Demyrs aren't that great at mind reading, especially ones that young, but when they work together, their much more adept. The one you might've saw me… uh…"
"Strangling?"
"Uh… yeah, that. Well, he was curious on why we were there, but the girl didn't want him to, so not only did you have an inexperienced kid fumbling around in your head, but her trying to stop him also distracted him, so he was even less graceful than usual. Hence the reason why you probably feel like your skull just got ran over several times."
"Makes sense… I guess." There was a pause before, "Why were you strangling him?"
"Well, I wasn't really strangling him, I was just holding him up by the front of his shirt." Xane sounded sheepish, but Pan wasn't buying it, "You didn't answer the question."
Xane sighed, "What was I supposed to do? You were pretty much gone at that point and I was worried that he was going to cause permanent damage if I didn't stop him soon."
Pan blinked, he hadn't expected such an honest answer, nor did he expect the demon to sound so concerned for him, "Oh… Thanks."
"It's okay, just… Are you okay? Before you were still pretty out of it, but how do you feel now?"
"I-I'm okay, just tired." Pan responded, not sure how to deal with Xane acting all worried over him, he had kind of gotten used to the silly, overconfident, and rather annoying demon, now that he acting kind and caring Xane was throwing Pan off.
"That’s good. If you're that tired you could just go to sleep."
Pan frowned, "I'm not sleeping on your back."
"Alright, it was just an idea."
They fell silent after that, and while Pan might have sounded determined not to fall asleep, it was getting harder and harder not to. The steady movement from Xane jumping from building to building, coupled with warmth from the demon's back and the exhaustion that felt had like it had seeped into every bone in was making it increasingly difficult to keep his eyes open. Maybe I'll shut my eyes, just for a minute…
"Hey, Pan." When there wasn't anything from the human, Xane frowned and tried again, "Pan?"
Nudging the brunette just slightly with his elbow, Xane smirked when he got a murmured response as Pan shifted slightly to get more comfortable, obviously asleep. "There goes the not going to sleep, huh?"
There still wasn't a response, but Xane wasn't expecting one at this point, instead he just kept going on to Pan's apartment, enjoying the quiet moment while it lasted. Though unfortunately that wasn't long, soon they were at the apartment, and Xane landed soundlessly on the extremely small balcony that jutted out from the side of the building. He frowned when the door opened easily, startling Kyle who was sitting in the living room, working on what looked like homework of some sort.
"You guys should lock this door. Having an unlocked door on any level when you live this close to D-District is just asking for trouble." Xane muttered as walked in, not even pausing as he made his way down the hall to Pan's room.
"Uh… Alright…" Xane could here shifting behind him as Kyle unearthed himself from his work, "Is he okay?"
"Yeah, just tired." Effortlessly setting Pan down on his bed, Xane ruffled the brunette's hair slightly before pressing his lips against Pan's temple in a short, chaste kiss. Looking up, he frowned once again when he saw the large window above Pan's bed was completely open. "And tell him to stop leaving this window open, especially as night."
"Okay…"Kyle said from the doorway, looking utterly perplexed, "Are you going to tell me what happened tonight?"
Xane paused and seemed to think about it before shrugging, and brushing past Kyle to go to the front room once again, "Nope. Oh, one more thing, tell him I'll meet him here on Friday night."
"Why…?"
Turning to look at Kyle, Xane sighed, "Just… let him know, okay?"
"Alright, fine."
"Thanks, see ya." Xane gave a little half salute to Kyle before jumping off the balcony, disappearing from sight. Kyle frowned after the demon before turning and walking back to Pan's room to look in on the still sleeping brunette, worried slightly. He knew Pan wasn't a heavy sleeper; there had been enough times of him trying to sneak into the apartment at one a.m. only to be caught by a tousled haired Pan to prove that. So the fact that he had slept through being carried home and then moved around troubled the blond. Enough that he was starting to think he shouldn't have helped Xane with the whole studying thing, not if it was going to get Pan hurt. He had just wanted the kid to loosen up and have some fun that involved actual human, or in this case demon, interaction, not get brought home in a comatose state.
Brow furrowed in thought Kyle walked back out to the living room; closing and locking the balcony door that had been left open from Xane's departure before sitting down to look over his work again. Though he couldn't help but keep glancing down the hallway to Pan's room, thinking as he did so, hurry up and wake up Pan so I can stop having to worry about your stupid ass.

Pan certainly has a mouth on him, doesn't he? And I know a lot of you were requesting something other than studying happen at library, well you got your wish! ^_^ Okay, okay, so you guys were probably wanting something more along the sexual lines, but this'll have to do (for now…)
Many thanks to Wynja, Aduial, Tatiana, Yagami Raito, inlovingmemory, li nika, KatFO, Anita, HumanInfiltrator, and bcsaturdai for the delightful reviews, I always enjoy reading your guys opinions! (Seriously, I always have a stupid-happy grin on my face when I read the reviews, which causes all kinds of weird looks from the people around me. :P )
Oh, and if you guys want to see Pan and Xane in an extremely silly, cartoony drawing style, I suggest you go here:
http://kaiyo05.deviantart.com/journal/21425977/
I was having some fun and decided to make them and Matt & Tobias from Just Ignore It into my header XD
And now… I'm going to sleep, because it's after 2:00 am and I need to work tomorrow…
AN: And another chapter done :)

I was having some fun and decided to make them and Matt & Tobias from Just Ignore It into my header XD
And now… I'm going to sleep, because it's after 2:00 am and I need to work tomorrow…
