CHAPTER SEVEN

Malec tuned himself into Avery as he very carefully moved his fingers inside her cunt and his thumb over her clit. He felt her anxiety and excitement even as his own lust blazed. He kissed her, groaning as she sucked at his tongue, raising her hips to the rhythm of his hand, and making soft submissive noises in her throat.

Lifting his head a bit, he murmured, “You feel, taste and even sound like Nirvana.”

She touched his face. Her hands lifted, and then settled again to cradle his jaw with a female sentiment he recognized with much gratification. “I should not do this.”

He paid special attention to that jewel of her sex and she climaxed, bucking and screaming in a primitive, guttural tone. “Yes,” her body quivered and clenched around his fingers, her mouth softened and opened. He plundered that sweetness, savored the muscles squeezing his digits. “I long to fuck you and hear you scream my name.”

Avery trembled. Her hands settled upon his shoulders, though she did not push. “Let me go, Malec. Please.”

He withdrew his fingers and sat up on the edge of the couch. Watching her gaze follow the progress of his fingers to his mouth, he savored her sensual whimper as he sampled the sugary flavor of her cunt. “Have you any idea what I would like to do to you, ma fetiche?”

She flushed pink and he felt the wave of shame. “Goodnight.”

He allowed her to bolt into the hall, then caught her. Pressing her against the wall, he again gripped her loose hair and tilted back her head. He had to step back to allow her body to bow. “You want me as much as I you.”

Avery reached up to cup his jaw in her hands. Blue eyes naked for all their innocence, she whispered, “I cannot know about this aside from the fact I need health info.”

Malec had a physician on retainer for this. “As a man who respects a smart woman, I will indulge your request.”

He released her. Waiting until she reached the foyer, he caught her very desirable back to his front. Pulling her hard against him, he slid his left arm around her waist, his right hand delved into her blouse and bra. Avery’s body sagged a bit in response. Malec savored her firm breast cradled in his palm.

Avery whispered, “You scare me too much.”

He leaned low, brushing his lowering fangs over her velveteen ear, then told her, “I could have you now. Your body would offer silky welcome and I could lay claim to it.” He nipped her neck. His jaw ached from the emergence of his blood teeth. She jerked in his arms, then again entrusted her weight to his strength. “I want you, ma fetiche.”

Her nipple hardened. She gripped his arm across her chest with both hands. “Please, Malec.”

Something within him twisted. He withdrew his hand and embraced her. “Think of me tonight.”

When he released her she bolted.

He cursed and went for a run in the woods, visiting his old copse.

Avery all but ran for her life back to the inn, skidding the dilapidated mini around every curve between Prayer Park and her haven. She parked, locked the car, her hands shaking and a sense of having escaped great peril causing her to tremble. She bolted upstairs without speaking to Mrs. Mims. As Avery plied her old-fashioned key, Brom stepped out of his room. Her belly fluttered and she rushed inside.

BAM, BAM, BAM. His cop-knock style spelled trouble.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire.

“Avery, let me in.” His tone made her very certain putting him off would prove nearly impossible.

She trembled so violently she feared speaking. “Brom,” she managed in a watery voice, “please, leave me alone.”

“Let me in or I’ll take this damn door down.”

Avery flinched. “Give me a moment.” She tried to collect herself. The trembling continued. After a quick bit of patchwork with a compact of pressed powder, she took a deep breath.

“Darlin’?” His summons came along with an aggressive knock.

Avery went to open the portal. Brom stood there like Colossus. A tower of male muscle and palpable determination. He braced his hands on either side of the portal. Something in his face changed as he trained that sharp gaze upon her. “You let him touch you.”

Avery rebelled at his possessive disapproval. She hadn’t taken any vows, made promises or signed any contracts. “That’s not your business.”

His towering bulk gave her reason to back peddle as he entered the room. “How am I supposed to feel about this, Avery?”

He closed the door. Avery walked backward until her legs touched the settee. “I can’t tell you how to feel. I’m confused enough trying to decide how I feel.”

Brom’s large hands flexed subtly. “The thought of him touching you makes me half mad with jealousy.” He let his head drop back and for a moment stared at the ceiling as if seeking written answers. When he looked at her again, the heat in his eyes intimidated her considerably. “What’s happening with us? You were interested in me.” He flexed his shoulders and the muscle moving under his clothes reminded her what sort of male she dealt with. “And, for certain, I am more than interested in you.”

“I’m interested.” Nothing in her limited experience had prepared her for dealing with finding herself caught between two men. “Can we talk about this tomorrow?”

He gave a low, humorless laugh. “I’m to do as I’m told and keep quiet, then?” His pleasing burr did not soften the sentiment.

“No.” She realized her hands had begun to shake quite hard, so she clasped them together and sat on the little couch. “I didn’t mean it that way. It’s just been a long day.”

Brom, all frustrated male, swiped a large hand over his face. “Avery, I will accept a rival if you keep me in the loop. But, you have to let me know what I face.”

She stood, walked to him. Moved by his generosity, she hugged him. ”Thank you.”

He embraced her. “You do something to me I can’t fight.”

Avery could not square her mind with the night’s happening’s. For a moment she inhaled his scent, taking pleasure and an odd comfort in it. Stepping back from him, she said, “Okay, this day has to end for me.”

Brom’s gaze raked her. “I will leave easy, but when I return it will come hard.”

Avery shivered, the sense of comfort vanishing. “Understood.”
