Chapter 7
He kissed my head and pulled the blankets down.
"I\'m cold!" I mumbled, covering my naked body with my hands.
He just chuckled and walked to his dresser and put on some boxers. He turned around and looked at me, then smiled a warm smile.
"You\'re so beautiful." He said gently.
I sat up, still shielding myself as much as I could from his view.
"Can I have some clothes?"
He walked to his closet and pulled a shirt off a hanger, then threw it to me. I caught it, and pulled it over my head, pulling my arms through the large sleeves.
"Come on" he said, "Let\'s go get something for you to eat"
"I\'d like some Cale" I said while getting off the bed. I walked towards him and stood on my tiptoes, kissing his lips lightly.
He smiled and kissed me back, then grabbed my hand and led me into the hall.
"The floor it so cold!" I whispered loudly as I danced across the floor on my tiptoes.
"Want me to carry you?" he asked.
"No" I replied, "I\'m not wearing any panties, and this shirt doesn\'t cover my butt by much."
He snickered, but continued to lead me up the stairs and into the kitchen.
When I walked into the kitchen, I saw Wade sitting at the table. He looked at Cale, then at me, then at what I was wearing, and back at Cale again. His nostrils flared and he glared, not at Cale, but at me. I squeezed Cale\'s arm tight and snuggled into his side. If anyone would protect me, it was Cale. But Cale was oblivious, and didn\'t even notice Wade\'s death glare towards me.
"Oh, I forgot something." Cale said, pulling from my grip, "I\'ll be right back. Help yourself"
He turned and in the blink of an eye, he had ran downstairs.
Wade kept his glare on me, and as much as I wanted to, I couldn\'t ignore it.
"What?" I finally asked. I wasn\'t completely disappointed with what words my mouth decided to spit out, I was actually curious at his reason for being such a jerk to me.
"You slept with him" Wade said.
"Yeah? So? I don\'t think it\'s any of your business"
He ignored this, "Why did you do it? Did he charm you into submission? Or did he just ask politely? That must be all it takes to get you into bed, asking like a gentlemen, correct?"
"Why are you being such a jerk?" I shouted.
He stood up abruptly, an in an instant, he was in front of me, looking down. My heart skipped a beat, maybe two, and I looked up at him in fear.
He looked down into my eyes and whispered, "You have no idea what you\'ve gotten yourself into"
"Then why don\'t you tell me what I\'ve gotten myself into since you care so much?"
He grabbed my wrist and twisted it up. I cringed under his grip; my wrist felt like it was breaking.
Then he pulled me closer to him and looked me straight in the eye; I could feel his breath on my lips. He started walking down the hall, pulling me quickly behind him.
"Wade, slow down! You\'re hurting my wrist! Remember last time?"
"Shut up!" he shouted. He picked up his pace once we got to the stairs, and I thought I would fall; it was almost impossible to keep up with him. Finally, we were in front of Cale\'s room.
"What are you doing?" I asked him. He turned around and looked at me, then dropped my wrist and grabbed my face, holding it firmly between both hands.
"Why did you sleep with Cale? You have to tell me now why you did it, and then I will tell you what I\'m doing." He said, peering into my eyes; a concerned look upon his face.
"I love him!" I shouted, glaring at him. I didn\'t like him manhandling me like a child handles a puppy. He stared into my eyes with the same concerned look bore across his face. He finally released my and his head shifted down. He sighed, then picked his head up and straightened himself out, then opened Cale\'s bedroom door.
"This isn\'t your room" I whispered, peeking around to see if I saw Cale anywhere.
"I have to show you something" Wade responded, "Besides, Cale is feeding."
I looked out Cale\'s door and saw The Dungeon across the basement, then followed Wade. He knelt in front of Cale\'s dresser and signaled for me to come forward and gather next to him. I knelt beside him as he opened the bottom drawer to Cale\'s dresser.
I had already seen this before, Wade knew that. After all, when he locked me in here while he had a vampire meeting with his comrades, I searched Cale\'s stuff, and then Wade came in and saw me, just as I was going through this drawer.
"So?" I asked, "He\'s got pictures of old friends from High School. Big deal."
"These aren\'t High School friends, Emilia." Wade said, picking up a picture of a young girl, "These are pictures of Cale\'s ex girlfriends. To be more exact, these are pictures of previous prisoners."
My eyes widened in shock as Wade pulled out pictures from under the pile of girls bound and gagged. He flipped through the pictures in front of my eyes; each one more horrible than the one before. I covered my mouth with my hands and shook my head, closing my eyes. Cale wouldn\'t do this. Not my Cale. Not the Cale that told me I deserved better than Jack, not the Cale that had been so gentle with me only a few hours before, or the Cale that I first met...
Are you afraid? You should be
I shivered and sobbed into my hands, shaking my head continuously.
"No!" I sobbed, "No. Not Cale!" My words came out as barely audible murmurs, but Wade didn\'t need words. He tucked the pictures back in their place and cradled me into his arms, kissing my forehead.
"Shh" he said, "I\'m sorry I had to show you that. I\'m just tired of seeing the same thing happen to girls over and over again."
I opened my eyes and looked at the pile, a very familiar looking picture catching my eye. I sniffled and hiccuped as I reached, then couldn\'t believe what I saw. It was a picture of Maggie, handcuffed to a cage, but not the cages in The Dungeon, a different cage. He mouth was gagged and her eye makeup was smeared. I furrowed my brow, which Wade noticed, and he pushed the picture from my view.
"Maggie was Cale\'s girlfriend first."
"But she told me she met Vincent at a bookshop."
"She did. She met Vincent, he took her home and introduced her to us. She hadn\'t established a relationship with Vincent yet, and ended up with Cale." He hesitated, then started again, "These girls" he said, looking at the drawer full of pictures, "All died. Once Cale got sick of them, he killed them. We couldn\'t let them live knowing out secret. Vincent loved Maggie, ever since he met her. When he saw that Cale was going to kill her, he saved her. That\'s why Maggie was so upset with Vincent once she found The Dungeon, she thought he was better than Cale, better than someone who would cage human beings."
I sniffled and sighed. I heard the door creek behind me.
"What are you doing?" I heard a terrified voice ask from behind me.
I turned around to see Cale, his eyes wide with fear. I glared at him.
"I trusted you. You captured girls, then caged them up. Bound and gagged them."
"Emi, please."
"I can\'t believe I trusted you. I can\'t believe I fooled myself into loving you."
"Now, wait Maggie."
"Maggie?! My name is Emilia! You can\'t even keep track of the girls you hold hostage!"
"I\'m sorry, Emi, please, listen to me-"
"You still love her, don\'t you? That\'s why you are always with her, whispering, huh? You never loved me, you never cared about me-"
"Emi, that\'s not true-"
"You were using me to cover up your grief with Maggie-"
"SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO ME!" He shouted.
I froze in my spot; in an instant, he was standing before me, holding my shoulders firmly. His icy blue eyes bore into my own, haunting me with his presence.
"I loved every single one of those girls. Once I told each of them my secret, they all freaked out. They all tried to escape. I had to cage them until I had the courage to...." his voice lowered, "To get rid of them. If they escaped, our secret would be revealed."
"Why did you take pictures?" I asked in a whisper.
"To remind myself that I am a monster, and that every woman I fall in love with ends up dying under my supervision. I keep them there in case someday, I try to come to my senses and stop loving. But I never do." He responded in the same whisper. Wade stood up and glared at Cale, then at me, but in a softer glare.
"I hope you know what you\'re doing, Emilia. I\'d hate to see you go like all the others."
Wade left. Cale and I stood alone in his room in silence. I finally looked up and stared at him, confused.
"I have to think" I said, gently budging from his grip. He released me, and I exited his room, closing the door on my way out. I walked across the basement and knocked on Wade\'s door. I didn\'t wait long before the door flew open. Wade stood in the doorway with an indifferent expression on his face. I threw myself at him, wrapping my arms around his shoulders. He flinched, but I didn\'t budge.
"Thank you" I said, pulling him closer to me, "It means a lot that you would show that to me. I needed to know." I still didn\'t budge, and this time, neither did he.
"What are you going to do?" he asked quietly, his arms still at his sides, refusing to embrace me.
"I need time to think" I said, "But for now, I\'m going to continue to hug you until I get something back"
He grabbed my shoulders and pulled me off of him and looked me in the eyes. Instantly, his mouth was on mine. His lips were pressed firmly against my own. His tongue teased my lips until I let it inside my mouth. It was then that he embraced me, and I did the same back. He pulled me into his and wrapped my hair in his fingers. Our lips danced together, allowing our tongues floor time as well. It was as if, for those short moments, we were one person.
I pulled back abruptly and stared at Wade. My breathing was heavy and my heart was pounding; I was sure Wade could hear it beat from where he was standing, regardless of the fact that he was a vampire.
"I..I\'m sorry." I said. I turned around to leave, but Wade grabbed my hand and pulled me back to him.
"No" he said, "You can\'t leave now"
"But Cale-"
"Cale doesn\'t deserve you." He whispered in to my ear. He breathed in my scent and dragged his lips up and down my neck. My breathing only got heavier while I tried to reason with Wade.
"But..." My voice turned into a whisper, "He told me he loved me. I believed him." I paused, "I still do."
He stopped, his lips still by my throat. "Do you love him back?"
"I...I don\'t know"
He hesitated, "You\'re lying"
My heart jumped. I knew he was reading my mind.
"I\'m confused" I corrected myself.
Wade chuckled and lightly dragged his fangs down my throat, barely scratching me. "You like me, too"
I hummed in agreement, for fear that any sudden movement I made would make his fangs penetrate my throat. He pulled back and held my face in his hands.
"Then we will keep us a little secret." he kissed my lips lightly and released my head, "Until you forget about Cale, at least."
I wished I could forget about Cale. He had hurt me so much. He told me he loved me, got me into bed with him, and then I find out that he has a history with girls like me, a violent history. The worst part was that I had actually fallen for him, forgotten about Jack, my boyfriend, the boy that I used to love so much, because of Cale. As far as I was concerned, Jack and I were over. Cale was right about one thing, I deserved better. However, he was wrong about him being good for me. As much as it pained me to admit, he had stolen my heart, then broken it.
I just stood in front of Wade, staring at him.
"Knock knock" I heard someone say from the doorway. I jerked around, afraid to see Cale, but instead was graced with Vincent\'s presence.
"Hey, could I take a few minutes with Wade?"
I knew it wasn\'t a question. "Uh, sure." I said. I squeezed past him through the doorway, and Vincent shut the door behind me.
What a jerk. I was going to leave them alone, but instead, I stayed by the door.
"What do you want to talk to me about?" Wade asked, "Wait" he interrupted Vincent before he could talk, "She\'s listening."
I moved about from the door as it flung open. Vincent was glaring at me. "Go away" he said, venom in his voice, and he slammed the door.
"Geez, I know when I\'m not wanted" I mumbled. I wandered around the basement, looking for somewhere to stay while Wade was \'preoccupied\' with Vincent. I looked from room to room.
Oh yeah, I have a room.
I walked into my cold domain and propped a chair against a door. Sure, it wouldn\'t stop a vampire, if they wanted to break their door down. I sat on my white down comforter and tried to fall asleep.
Wade\'s P.o.V.
"Okay, what is it you came here to say?" I asked.
"You have to stop" Vincent said.
"What?"
"Look. I see the way Cale looks at her, and I see the way you look at her. You both love her."
"Do not compare me to him" I said through clenched teeth.
"Look Wade, the point is you two are going to end up killing each other over her. You\'re brothers"
"Not by birth" I snarled under my breath.
"But by blood. Your blood runs through his veins. You changed him, and we all know that you are the only one who can kill him. That\'s the last thing I want to happen."
"You\'ve always taken his side" I said.
"Wade, you know that\'s not true. I chose this life for you, not for him. That\'s a pretty big sacrifice."
"I told you not to" I said under my breath.
"And I ignored you. Just listen. Vampires and Humans can\'t love each other. The human will end up dying."
"What about you and Maggie?!" I screamed.
He sighed and dug his hands into his pockets. "We are very careful. We know our relationship will never succeed unless I change her, and yet she continues to put it off. I don\'t blame her, I\'d want to be mortal for as long as I could, but listen. Listen Wade."
I looked at him.
"I know that if and when Cale decides that he\'s done with Emilia, you will try to save her, just like I did with Maggie. But when you do, you\'ll just have to change her. It\'d be much easier to forget about her.
"How am I supposed to do that? She knows our secret. Am I supposed to just trust her to live her life without telling a soul that vampires kidnapped her?"
"I met her boyfriend"
My heart sank. "You what?!" I screamed.
He continued to speak calmly, "At the time, I was unaware of who he was, but when he told me that his girlfriend had been missing since Thanksgiving night, I asked him what he would do to get her back. He said anything, so I changed him. I told him everything once the transformation was completed.
"You what?!" I screamed again.
"She was his girlfriend, Wade, and we took her in like some lost puppy and made her our own."
"So what, are you going to bring her, a human, back to him, a newborn vampire? That\'s dangerous! Why can\'t she stay here?"
"She knows about vampires, which means she has to stay with one to make sure our secret is safe, but Jack\'s her boyfriend, and since they are together, he can choose to change her when he pleases. It\'s only fair, Wade. Think about how he feels. Think of how Emilia feels."
I sighed. "When do we meet him?"
He smiled, "Three days. Thanks Wade. You\'re making a good decision."
