Chapter VII: The Sins of our Past
Author Notes: here is part 3 of Nagoya – Not much smut here though – just a warning.
A lot was going through Kira's mind – regrets.. desires.. memories.. after that experience with Jinkage he was questioning his reason. Is he trying to save Kin because he loves him? Or is it just mortal desires that drives him onward? He tossed his jacket over his shoulder and stepped out to the walkway along the street, the day seems quiet, it was unusual – at least he remembered there being a lot more people in the area when he was younger. What had happened to Nagoya over the years? Aren't cities suppose to grow? As Kira walked along the path, passing the few people he saw, he walked and walked the same events running through his mind, Kin.. Jinkage.. Turiel.. 'how could I have let this happen? And worst of all, why couldn't I control the most primal of my feelings?' thought Kira as he peered around at the various buildings he saw – the city seemed to have a lot less people and a lot more buildings... it was strange.
Meanwhile back at the hotel Jinkage was having his own regrets, his own emotions.. and his own memories. The incident, it happened nine years ago...
Jinkage worked as a security guard for a noble family some years before dedicating himself to monk hood, it was a family full of secrets. The master of the family was very young when he took over – his father had disappeared. They used the surplus money they obtained from sources unknown to collect certain Christian artifacts, which they went to great lengths to obtain.
One day they added a shard of metal to their collection. Said to be a piece of the Sword of Michael which shattered during his battle with Samael; this was not an easy piece to get, let alone protect...
It wasn't long in their possession before several parties caught wind of it – and one of these parties was indeed the Malakim Turiel.
Jinkage was on his nightly shift when Turiel approached him, Jinkage noticed shadowy movement in the hall that night
“Who's there?” He asked, he heard nothing but a disturbing chuckle echo throughout the hall
Drawing his pistol he shuffled around, looking between all directions as fast as his eyes could
move from window to hall to door but he saw no one. Although one thing did catch his eye...
“What the hell?” whispered Jinkage as he peer intently out the window – it had been raining that night, however the rain droplets... seemed suspended in the air as if time had stopped
“I don't... believe this is happening. It can't... can it?” he quickly ran outside to the courtyard to check whether or not his eyes are playing a game with him. He burst out the door, and was immediately stopped by his own reflex...
“What the hell?” he said, again he heard the chuckle, but this time the source approached him from the shadowed distance, “Hello mortal...” the chuckling creature said as he took a finger and placed it gently below one of the suspended droplets allowing it to fall onto his finger, before licking it with a long pointed tongue... Jinkage was stunned by his appearance as it was – and the tongue didn't help one bit, he sported a white tuxedo without a single sign of moisture about it, and covering his hands a pair of golden cloth gloves.
“W-what do you want? W-w-who are you?” stuttered Jinkage – visibly shaken.
The man grinned, and disappeared only to almost instantly appear directly in front of Jinkage
“Do you fear me? I am Heaven's Hand of Punishment – Arch Malakim Turiel.. You would do well to.” whispered the man – his mouth less than an inch from Jinkage's face.
“What do you want?!” shouted Jinkage
“heh heh heh...” chuckled Turiel appearing behind Jinkage within a blink.
Jinkage shot around facing him once again.
“How much do you care about your life Jinkage Ito?” asked Turiel
Jinkage didn't reply.
“Hmm... I see. Very well than, we shall have to try a different tactic.” at that moment Turiel turned away reaching his arm parallel to his shoulder and began to mutter some unknown angelic chant.
Jinkage was unable to move for some reason he didn't know, had this man froze him in place like the rain? A few moments passed as a silvery orb began to flicker into reality against Turiel's hand.
Turiel turned his hand face up and placed the orb before Jinkage and asked
“Tell me human, do you care about these lives?”
As the orb radiated before him his face was scared with the expression of fear as within the orb he saw his sleeping wife and two daughters.
“Damn you!” cried Jinkage “What the hell do you want!?”
Turiel chuckled, “Ah, so you do have a weakness...What do I want, hmm. I wonder.”
Turiel paced in circles around Jinkage as he stared intently into the orb, watching his family.
“I suppose you heard of a certain item your employer has acquired recently.” said Turiel
“That... piece of metal? You are doing all of this for a piece of metal?!” asked Jinkage
“That 'piece of metal' is very special... I assure you its value is much higher than your's or you family's lives – and if you go in, and fetch it for me, I will leave you and your family alone.”
“Why can't you get it your self?” shouted Jinkage.
“If only it were that easy... hmm – well if you must know that family has another item – The Stone of Galilee, a lovely little thing that utterly curses people like me, draining us of all our power, not to mention painfully reducing us to dust.” Turiel grinned “This is why you must do it for me.”
“What stops me from bringing this stone out instead?” asked Jinkage
Turiel broke out into laughter, “You can't be serious... and besides even if you 'did' manage to bring it out here, need I remind you of a tiny little problem?” Turiel pointed toward the Orb he had conjured earlier, “I will feel that stone before it gets close enough to harm me, in fact I feel it even as we speak. Just run along and do as I ask, and perhaps no-one will be hurt.” taunted Turiel
“Perhaps... PERHAPS?” yelled Jinkage. Turiel snapped his fingers and Jinkage regained his movement.
“Go on now. Get my 'piece of metal' before I decide to stop being nice.” said Turiel as he sat cross legged on a bench in the courtyard, examining his nails.”
“What stops me from killing you right now?” screamed Jinkage as he drew his pistol aiming it at Turiel
“Oh, please.” said Turiel, rolling his eyes. “You are really trying my patience. Do you honestly think that is going to work on me?” Turiel waved a hand in front of him instantly dismantling the gun into scrap metal.
Jinkage in a state of shock asked, “What are you?”
“Haven't I already told you?” asked Turiel “You humans sure are stupid – I really don't know what he sees in your kind...”
“Who?” asked Jinkage dropping his hands to his side.
Turiel bust out into laughter once again. “Look just go get it, one more word and I'll start with the little girl in there, the one in red.”
“Y..” started Jinkage before realizing that this man was truly serious.
“Y..? What was that? Did you say something, is that some kind of stupid human word? You really should let me know, I can't be going back on my word now can I?” said Turiel, his taunts continuing, as if he was intentionally trying to piss Jinkage off. “So I will allow you one more word, and it better be the right one! Are you going to get my shard? Or what?”
“Y-yes.” said Jinkage lowering his head in defeat.
Jinkage ran back into the hall he was patrolling headed in the direction of the vault – Anyone who didn't work or live in this place would surely get lost, the halls were windy, and usually narrow and it was build in the style of the feudal era. As he finally reached the vault he stopped... he had never actually seen the inside of the vault, though he knew the password on the door.
As he hastily typed it into the keypad the door slid open, and before him was a massive boulder shaped like some kind of grotesque sculpture. He could feel the energy radiating from it, was this the Stone of Galilee? It was massive. It stood in the center of the cylindrical room overshadowing the rest of the strange Christian treasures. And on the opposite side of the entryway was another hall, and another keypad – one which he didn't know the password too. He couldn't find anything resembling the shard he only briefly caught a shaded glance of, so it had to be through that door, 'what am I going to do?' he asked himself, only to be caught off guard by a booming voice from behind him
“Ito... what are you doing here? I don't recall you having permission to enter, you may know the password but that is for emergencies is it not?” Jinkage immediately recognized the voice as the young master Shika Arigawa, and slowly turned to face him. He was draped in a white kimono and his black hair pulled back in a tail. His red obi was the only part that stood out on his attire.
“M-master Arigawa-sama... I-I can explain!” said Jinkage
“Ito – I don't appreciate this.” said Shika
“I am afraid that you won't appreciate this either.” whispered Jinkage as he sprung up to Shika unsheathing his combat knife and holding it to his neck.
“Ito! What is the meaning of this? You are aware of the consequences!” cried Shika angrily.
“I am sorry, but I need you to open this door Shika-kun...” insisted Jinkage
“It is regrettable that this isn't just another one of your little games, Kage-kun” said Shika calmly as he slowly pushed the knife away from his neck and approached the keypad where he gracefully inputted the key.
“Your reasonings must be dire, so I will let you have the shard – however you can consider yourself fired from your position, and tomorrow at noon I am going to report it stolen... I am only doing this for you because you have been a 'very' good friend. Although we both know you don't stand a chance against me, even with that knife. As I said – I am only doing this as a favor – I won't ask why you need it nor do I care.” Shika removed his Obi and wrapped the shard in it. “I must warn you – Don't look at this object directly. You will find the consequences less than desirable.” said Shika as he placed the cloth-wrapped shard in Jinkage's hand and gently kissed Jinkage on the forehead before whispering in his ear “Kage-kun. Remember, tomorrow at noon.” Shika then stepped out of the room as swiftly as he entered. “Shika-kun... I'm sorry.” whispered Jinkage.
It wasn't long before Jinkage returned to the courtyard where an impatient Turiel stood waiting for him
“Well – its about ti... What is this?” paying no attention to the shard in Jinkage's hand Turiel removed one of his gloves and rubbed the tip of his finger on Jinkage's forehead, “Lip stick?” asked Turiel, “What exactly was my dear new friend Jinkage doing all this time? Was there a beautiful woman in there?”
“S-something like that...” muttered Jinkage under his breath. Turiel grinned - “Are you familiar with the seventh and tenth commandment? Hmm, what were they again – thou shalt not commit adultery, and thou shall not covet, am I right? But here you are... sinning right in front of an angel, have you no shame? She must be quite lovely if you can desire her over your own wife.”
“I-It's... complicated.” replied Jinkage
“Wait a moment--” Interrupted Turiel “--My my, this has turned into quite an interesting scenario...
Tell me – this person who kissed you – it wasn't even a woman was it?”
“I-” said Jinkage in embarrassment
“Need I remind you what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah? Ah never mind – I'm not here to judge you, but I am curious to one thing... You would love your wife so much as to steal from the person whom you truly love only to protect her? Or perhaps it isn't her you are trying to protect? I wonder...” said Turiel as he turned away – facing the orb he had conjured – and with the flick of his wrist it returned to his palm, in which he focused on it for a moment until only Jinkage's wife appeared
and following it – a silhouette of many sinful things she had done, including cheating on Jinkage himself.
“Well well, would you look at this, Jinkage?” said Turiel pushing the orb directly into Jinkage's field of vision
“N-no.. I didn't want to believe it..” said Jinkage – his head again turning to an angle perceiving defeat.
“So you knew?” asked Turiel, “Interesting – Interesting indeed. Well I guess its only fair that I tell you that I to am a sinner, through and through.” Turiel pulled Jinkage close, and kissed him on the neck – taking the cloth-covered obi at the same time.
Jinkage was stunned – was this man truly an angel? Or was he a demon – or perhaps... both?
“I must thank you, Jinkage – I won't bother you anymore, at least not on my free time, nor will I bother your daughters.” with those last words, Turiel vanished, and Jinkage collapsed to his knees in tears.
“Why – why is this so my dear Chi? I tried to love you, but somehow – somehow I knew.” said Jinkage through the tears running down his cheek..
Only a few moments later Shika noticed Jinkage on the ground in the courtyard and ran to his side. Kicking off his geta to gain speed.
“Kage-kun?! What happened? Who was that man? Did he hurt you?” asked Shika as he dropped to his knees at Jinkage's side
“Shika-kun... I was right about Chi...”
Shika wrapped his arms around Jinkage who grasped them in his own – pressing them against his chest
“What can I do Shika? He took the shard – I don't know what he wanted with it.” asked Jinkage
“Don't worry about that Kage-kun... Just don't worry about it, as long as you're okay. I don't know what I would do without you.” a sadness hung over Shika, but it was unclear to him why – was it simply his fear of losing Jinkage?
“Go home now Jinkage – take care of your daughters. They are important right now.” continued Shika
Jinkage scrambled to his feet, and helped Shika up as well. Before going back down to one knee.
“Shika – you've gone and dirtied your kimono...” Using his hands he dusted the expensive looking white kimono to his best effort. As Jinkage returned to his feet he held Shika's chin up with one of his hands, kissing him deeply.
“I'm still fired, aren't I.” asked Jinkage.
“Yeah – I'm afraid so... If anyone in my family finds out that I kept the guard responsible for losing the Shard of Michael, our secret might be revealed... and I might lose my position as head of family, but you can still visit me at night if you want...”
Shika stole another kiss from Jinkage before saying his farewells and going back inside.
When Jinkage returned home he saw his wife up waiting in the entry hall of his house.
“Chi... what's wrong?” asked Jinkage as he removed his uniform jacket.
Chi approached and tried to embrace him, but he pushed her back gently pretending he was sore.
“I thought – I thought something horrible happened.. You are home early.. so something did happen, didn't it..” Luckily for Jinkage it was too dark for his wife to notice the remnants of Shika's lipstick
“No Chi – I just felt ill.” said Jinkage trying to avoid eye contact with his wife. Jinkage hung up his jacket and removed his work shoes placing them outside the door to his home before locking it.
“Jinkage you should go to bed, you look exhausted.” she said. Doing her best to prevent him from looking into or entering the family room. He noticed her attempts, but didn't care
“Yeah – you're right. Goodnight Chi” Jinkage kissed her on the cheek and climbed the stairs towards the bedrooms and after kissing his two daughters on their foreheads went to the guest bedroom, falling asleep.
Several weeks had passed since that night – and an unexpected visitor came to their home during the night, Jinkage still hadn't approached Chi about her affair, nor his. Although he had began to sleep in the guest room much more frequently, however Chi didn't seem to notice nor care. That night a most horrible thing was to befall.
“Ah, Jinkage – so you still haven't talked to your lovely wife I see...” said a familiar, ill-begotten voice, arousing Jinkage from his slumber
“T-Turiel?! What do you wan..” Jinkage couldn't finish when he saw what he saw that night
Turiel's attire had completely changed.
“Oh, you noticed, this is 'my' work uniform, and 'my' pistol” said Turiel as he brandished a massive flaming scythe – he was covered head to toe in white clothes like before, but there was a small difference, he had hundreds of small cross-shaped trinkets lining his outfit, and several vorpal looking plates on various parts of his body such as his shoulders and knees – as well as the entire lower half of his legs.
“W-work uniform? So you are working right now?” asked Jinkage as he sat up in his bed.
“Yes – I'm afraid this isn't a social call.” replied Turiel as he stepped towards Jinkage.
“It was so ironic, that soon after I returned home I saw your dear wife in my book... as well as you.”
he continued
“Your book?” asked Jinkage curiously.
“Yes – my book sinners that have yet to be forgiven – and as I told you, I serve as 'HIS' Hand of Punishment, at least for the time being, and although I'm really not supposed to take action unless ordered to do so – for instance if the said sinner is doing something extremely horrible, but since you've been such a big help to me I thought I'd do you a favor.” Turiel grinned wickedly at Jinkage before turning to the door to his bedroom – someone then knocked on the door and asked in a concerned voice
“Jinkage? Who are you talking to?” it was Chi.
“Ah there she is now, you can open the door for her if you like, She won't be able to see me as I am now – she is far too weak-willed.” just as Jinkage was about to call her in another unexpected visitor arrived via window, and that is when they met.
“Turiel! You have acted against God's own will!” said a booming – yet youthful voice and a four-winged angel the size of a young teen; covered head to toe in ghostly robes appeared in the room. He had extremely long blond hair that hung down as far as his ankles, and in on hand, a sword of divine light, in the other – a golden harp. His spiritual force was astounding and nearly unbearable for Jinkage.
“Damn – that blasted Elohim...Tsukikazu” said Turiel with a very concerned and unusually serious (for him) tone.
“Turiel you are to return to heaven immediately and face God – to repent for your crime!”
“I think not Tsukikazu – I refuse to serve God's will any longer!” with a blur of wings and light Turiel sprang an attack using his full force against Tsukikazu – which was deflected with one swift movement of his sword-arm – The two angels were locked weapon to weapon, Tsukikazu gave Turiel no quarter regardless of is own size and apparent ability – however during their struggle the Obi fell from Turiel's belt and the shard flew out of it landing in Jinkage's hands – causing him a bloody mess due to the razor sharp shard of Michael's Sword. Tsukikazu dropped his guard for a moment when he saw the shard fling from the obi - “A piece of Michael's sword?!”
Turiel used that opportunity to its fullest striking Tsukikazu down to the ground – unconscious
“Give me that, now!” screamed Turiel, Jinkage was doing his best to obey Shika's warning and tried not to look directly at the shard – however his own will failed him – and Turiel watched as Jinkage's eyes turned bright yellow as he saw within the shard the divine secrets of St. Michael – one of the heavenly sins that even the Seraph must be wary of. It seemed like forever to Jinkage but when he came to, he had realized only a couple minutes had passed.
“Damn it!” cried Turiel, I told you to give me that! But now it is worthless to me... Turiel watched as the shard degenerated down into a silvery powder.
“You have damned yourself, and your family!” screamed Turiel.
Tsukikazu was barely conscious now, but made no action – he still couldn't move swift enough to do anything.. Turiel raised waved his hands before him – chanting something similar to before – yet it sounded more evil this time. They heard a low rumble followed by Chi, and Jinkage's two daughters Mana and Kata crashed through the walls though they were unconscious due to Tsukikazu's massive spiritual force. As Jinkage found himself unable to move – under Turiel's curse once again, his family was floating before him.
“The last thing you will see before I take your soul will be my scythe tearing your family asunder!”
said Turiel
“No!” cried Jinkage but it was too late, Turiel's scythe was already in the process of dissecting them leaving nothing behind but blood and cauterized chunks
“No... NO!!” cried Jinkage – Turiel snapped his fingers releasing Jinkage of his binding spell causing him to fall to his knees, but only for a moment shortly after he jumped to his feet, and tackled Turiel with all his might
“H-how can you move!?” asked Turiel, “Apparently Tsukikazu's aura had no effect on you - but you know I am far stronger than you – you are going to die next!” he continued, but before he could raise his scythe to strike, he felt the blade of Tsukikazu rip through his chest, “Y-your c-conscious I s-see...”
said Turiel before falling unconscious Tsukikazu began to recite a sacred chant while he had his sword through Turiel.
“In the name of the holy father who reigns over heaven, and by the four seals; North, West, South, and East – By the power of Sandalphon, Metatron; and the Chayot Ha Kodesh. With the eternal witness of the Ophanim; I, Elohim Tsukikazu of the blood of Azrael, Banish you from heaven!!”
The massive burst of spiritual energy knocked Jinkage out cold; and Turiel his wings charred black disappeared into purgatory. At least until he recovered. However he never return to heaven.
Nearly a day passed before Jinkage's consciousness returned, and when he woke he saw Tsukikazu mending his wounds – the blood and bodily parts were gone as if nothing ever happened...
“M-my family... where have they gone?” asked Jinkage.
Now with a less tremendous voice Tsukikazu embraced Jinkage and said
“I have sent them to heaven...” Jinkage – upset lowered his head
“So it wasn't a dream...” muttered Jinkage as he lied back on the bed, “I see..”
“Jinkage – I have one more task to perform...” said Tsukikazu humbly as he lowered his eyes in grief
“You have committed an act of utmost foreboding, an act, I myself could be banished for performing, and now I have to give you this option, normally I wouldn't however you did help me, and I am permitted to do what I see fit in this matter.” continued Tsukikazu. Jinkage opened his eyes and looked into Tsukikazu's, “An... option?”
“Yes.” replied Tsukikazu; Jinkage stood up and asked Tsukikazu, “Then what must I do?”
“You have three options, Death; Transcendence; or a third option which would be my preference,
You forgo your vision for the rest of eternity, even after death – For you have seen the holy secrets of Saint Michael... and Gabriel.” continued Tsukikazu.
“Yes – They are burned into my memory – but it was an accident...” answered Jinkage.
“That is why I give you this option, but you must understand, if used correctly you have the knowledge to overthrow God himself.”
“I see.. very well I hereby agree to forgo my vision for the rest of eternity.” answered Jinkage as he stood up to his feet awaiting what was to come.
“You probably lost a good amount of your vision just from viewing the divine light anyways – at least those burns appear that way... but I must completely sever your vision, so that you cannot use the power you have obtained against God. Doing this will make it impossible for you to read the rest of the secrets within any shard you might encounter in the future. Prepare yourself.”
Tsukikazu held his hand over Jinkage's eyes, “This will be excruciating for a moment as your eyes turn to glass. Are you ready?”
“Just do it...” Jinkage grit his teeth as Tsukikazu began to chant.
“In the name of the holy father who reigns over heaven, and by the four seals; North, West, South, and East – By the will of the 10 choirs with God as my witness – I, Elohim Tsukikazu of the blood of Azrael, seal your most evil vision – the windows between your soul and the most deadly of sins.
I hereby preform the curse of severance!”
Jinkage screamed as his eyes solidified and his optical nerves destroyed and when it was over, he fell to his knees unconscious...
