Part 7
*Daylith’s View*
Once we finished eating we went into the living room to watch some TV. I couldn't find the remote like usual and went up to the TV screen to flick around. As I skimmed through the channels I saw Timmy through the corner of my eye sitting on the couch waiting for me to pick something. Within that moment, an idea came to mind that would bring me closer to my sought out answer.
I stopped changing the channel, not caring what station I left it on, and walked back to the couch. I laid down and rested my head in Timmy’s lap. "My head's been killing me all day, give me rub, okay?"
He reacted just the way I thought he would. His face turned red and I could tell he had no idea what to do. I kind of felt bad for putting him on the spot like that, but it was score one for the gay theory.
"C'mon I'm letting you stay in my house and I’ve taken care of you when you needed it, so you owe it to me man."
After I said that, he gave in and started to rub my head and it actually felt pretty good.
*Timmy’s View*
‘Could this be anymore awkward?’ I felt so uncomfortable I couldn't even think of anything to say. ‘Or is this something normal among friends?’ I know I’ve never really had any friends like this before, but I couldn't help but feel like he was doing this on purpose, as if he was trying to mock me somehow. Either way, I gave in and started to massage his head. I guess it didn't mean anything; he would have done the same for me.
*Daylith’s View*
I started to feel drowsy from the head rub, so in order to keep myself awake I figured I’d break the silence. "You know, I don't like girls that much either." All of a sudden Timmy's hand stopped. "I mean, they can be so boring sometimes and all they do is talk. Their always all emotional and shit, and they worry about the dumbest stuff. Then to top it all off they cheat on you all the time. When you get down to it, they're all pretty cheap." Just then I felt him continue rubbing my head but it wasn't in the same smooth motion. "I mean, why can't they be more like guys? Just hang out and be normal."
Once again all his motions stopped. "Hey, keep it going dude my head's still hurting." He continued again in silence.
I couldn't help but grin and think score two for the gay theory.
*Timmy’s View*
A half hour went by and my hand was exhausted from messaging his forehead. I tried not to let what he said before affect me, but I kept going over it in my mind. It was almost as if he was trying to trick me into saying I like guys. I mean, what other reason would he have for saying all these weird things?
"Alright I'm done now, you can sit up." I said, but received no response.
"Come on man, get up." I said while moving his head a bit.
‘I think he fell asleep.’ I leaned over a little and listened to his calm breathing. ‘Yep he's definitely asleep.’
‘Great, now what do I do?’
I knew that if I got up, I would wake him, but I didn't want to do that considering that he looked so comfortable. On the other hand, if I didn't wake him, his dad might come home to see him in my lap and that would be weird. I looked over at the clock and it was only 6:30pm, so I guess I didn't have anything to worry about.
I started to watch some TV but I quickly lost interest in the food channel, which he put on for some odd reason. After taking a look around I saw that the remote was on the table next to me in plain view. ‘So much for 'losing' the remote,’ I thought while leaning over to grab it. The sudden movement caused Daylith to stir and I looked down to see him staring up at me.
"You awake?" I Asked
With a yawn he replied "Yea. Wow, I actually fell asleep."
"Well what'd you expect when under the soothing motion of these experienced hands." I commented while flexing my hand in the air.
"What experience do they have?" He asked with a grin.
I smiled and said "wouldn't you like to know."
Daylith got off the couch to stretch and I did the same.
"So now what?" I asked.
"Well! I'm gonna hit the shower, what about you?"
It felt weird to just help myself to whatever I wanted, I’d rather be told what I can and can't do. So I said, "I don't know, this is your house, your supposed to be telling me what to do."
"Oh really? Then I say get up and strip for me!" he said with a playful smile.
"Not that way."
"Haha I know, but you'd like that wouldn't you?" He said and turned around to head upstairs.
‘What's that supposed to mean? I swear that this kid might just be gay.’
I followed him upstairs and sat on his bed. He grabbed a couple of towels and threw one next to me.
"I'll be out in two minutes and then you can go in; you can look around if you want." He said, and then went into the shower.
That was better. He set a limit to what I could do, at least now I felt more like a guest rather then a person just making himself at home in someone else's house.
I took a look at his basketball tournament trophies. He had so many; he must have played in a lot of games. When I turned around to check out his room I saw a box full of junk and took a peek inside. Underneath a jersey I noticed a book sticking out half way. I picked it up wondering if he actually read books to find out that it was a journal. I could hear the water still running in the bathroom so I figured I'd take a look while he wasn't around.
After reading a couple of passages, I realized the mistake I had made.
‘Journal,
I can't believe this. What's wrong with me? Everyday I keep wishing that my mom would die.
I know it's not her fault; she's ill, very ill. All I do is watch her suffer and I'm all alone with her here. My damn father is all the way Upstate. He doesn't care. He wouldn't care if either of us dropped dead. I hardly even know him.
I can hear her now in the other room. She's groaning; always talking about the voices, always trying to send them away but it doesn't work. The medicine doesn't work. Nothing works.
She needs to be put out. Or at least, one of us does.
Daylith’
I remembered when Daylith mentioned that he moved here because his mother was ill. Apparently there was a lot more behind that story. I'm guessing that he made up with his father though. Their relationship seemed pretty good now.
I knew that I should have stopped reading right then and there. I pried enough yet I wanted to read more. I wanted to know more about him. Or at least that was part of it. In reality, I was also disturbingly happy that someone else was suffering just as much as I was, if not more. So I kept reading.
‘Journal,
I can never ever tell anybody what just happened last night. I can barely believe it myself, it feels so unreal. My friend Aaron invited me to his house last night, and I was kind of happy because I wanted to get away from my mom for awhile. So I walked over there around 7pm and before I could get to the door, Aaron came storming out. I heard his mother yelling from inside. They never get along; she's been really rough on him ever since his father died.
I saw her step outside and yell, "Go ahead you piece of shit! Leave! I don't give a fuck, I shouldn't even be wasting my breath on you! Your probably just gonna end up dead like your lame father!"
I could see the fury in his eyes as he told me to just follow him. We ended up walking to the park down the street to our regular spot by the bridge. That's always been the place where we went to vent to each other. I think that's what made us such good friends, we both had our problems, and neither of us was afraid to share them with each other.
This time was different though, once we sat on the ground he said "You see what she's putting me through? I swear I’m gonna kill myself." And he broke out in sobs.
I sat next to him and put my arm over his shoulder and told him to calm down and try to think straight. It was the first time I actually couldn't think of anything comforting to say to him. The only thing was, that time, we didn't need words. Somehow my arm around his shoulder led to other things. He started to grab a hold of me and I didn't want to stop him since he was upset, but then he started saying things like "your all I have" and the next thing I knew he was kissing me. I could feel his hand roaming under my shirt…but I couldn't stop him, I didn't want to so I...’
Just then I closed the book. ‘What did I just do?’ I thought to myself. I knew that I could never look at him the same again and yet I was going to have to face him as soon as he got out of the shower. Just then I heard a door slam shut and I turned around to see Daylith staring at me. His stare was cold; I never thought I'd see him look at me that way. I put the book back in the box in a pitiful attempt to pretend I was just looking at it and not reading it. But he obviously knew.
"Guess you missed the part that said 'private' on that book."
I didn't say anything, what could I have said? I'm sorry? I didn't mean to read your diary even though I did?
"Anything interesting?" He asked while adjusting his towel.
*Daylith’s View*
I knew I was being mean. Throwing him on the spot again, but he read my journal and it strangely ticked me off to a great extent. I wondered what he had read. But he wouldn't answer.
I walked over to my drawers and pulled out a pair of shorts when out of nowhere I heard him say,
"I read about your mom, and your friend Aaron… at the park. Not the whole thing though. I'm sorry, I didn't realize how serious it was until I started reading it."
Aaron. I was a bit embarrassed that he actually read that part. I wasn't planning on telling anybody about that, especially since that was the day I figured out I was bisexual, but I decided to calm down because I probably would've ended up telling him half the stuff in there anyway. He actually saved me the trouble of having to talk about it all.
"Look, its ok man, I'm not mad at you for reading it. At least now I won't have to tell you about that stuff in person." I said while sitting on the bed.
He came over and sat next to me and I noticed his face turn a little red. He must have just noticed that I'm half naked. I almost wanted to laugh at him, but I didn't.
