Inside the Haunted

Part 7

A/N: WHOMEVER KEEPS VOTING THIS 1*, EFF OFF OF MY STORY AND ACTUALLY READ IT AND STOP BEING JEALOUS!!!! Now, on with the story.

-----------------------------------

After listening to the men calling me crazy, I was hurt. Even Bernie thought that I was losing my edge. Well, maybe I was. After all, most of the freaky stuff was happening to me. No one else saw Emily take over Gloria’s body and make Gloria kill herself. No one else was almost squashed to death by a haunting, blood-sucking spirit. It was all me. I suddenly felt very tired. I shut the door the whole way and sank onto my bed falling asleep almost immediately.

-------------------------------------

The next morning, I woke to find it very quiet. Where was everyone? I looked over and saw a note taped to my arm.

Madigan: stay on Gus’ boat today. I don’t want you out working on the boat until I know you’re well again.

--Bernie

I crumpled the note and threw it over the side of my bed. I was angry. No “get well soon” or “I know you’re not crazy, you don’t have to prove it to us”. Nooo, I get a command to stay on the boat or else I’ll go fully completely crazy. Well, sorry Bernie, I had to go. I had to talk to Emily about yesterday. Why she made Gloria kill herself and what was going on.

---------------------------------------

Twirling the locket around my fingers, I stepped out on the ramp and faced the Seahawk.

“Okay Emily, I need you here. Come to me.” I whispered to the locket, hoping she would come. But she didn’t.

“Stay patient. It took her awhile when I was about to be squashed.” I thought. I kept wishing and hoping that she would come and appear next to me. I opened my eyes and nope, she still wasn’t there. I started to get agitated.

“EMILY! COME ON! I NEED YOU!” I screamed. Still nothing. I wrenched the locket’s chain up over my head and grasped the heart piece in my hand. I clenched my fist, tattooing the design of the heart and the chain into my palm.

“Thanks for nothing…” I muttered, looking out towards the ocean. I threw my arm back, preparing to throw the good-for-nothing locket overboard, but then there was a bright light and I fainted again.

----------------------------------------

“Madigan? Are you okay?” I heard Emily’s distant voice ask me. I opened my eyes once again and there was Emily standing beside me. I jumped up and glared at her.

“It’s about time you showed up!” I said to her. She looked at me funny.

“What do you mean?” Emily asked.

“I mean that I’ve been asking you to come for like 10 minutes but you never came until now when I was about to throw the locket over.” I said.

“Because you weren’t in any trouble until you were about to throw the locket over.” Emily said sensibly, as if I was supposed to know this. I just stared at her.

“Madigan, that locket gives you my protection.” She said.

“From what? ‘Him’?” I asked. She nodded, but it was halfhearted.

“It also protects you…from someone else.”

“What? Who? Someone I know?” I asked quickly.

“Yes.” She whispered.

“Who? Emily please tell me and I promise I won’t throw the locket overboard.” I said. She took a shaky breath.

“Okay, I’ll tell you. But it’s…difficult for me to say.” She said. My heart started to pound. I was thinking of Charlie.

“It also protects you from…me.” Emily said.

--------------------------------------------------

I stared at Emily with my mouth open as far as it could possibly go.

“You? Why would I need protection by you…from you?” I asked. I was very confused.

“I told you it was difficult!” she moaned. Then, the blood appeared on her face and her hands again. She screamed and disappeared, but I wasn’t done asking questions yet.

“EMILY! COME BACK!” I screamed. When she didn’t I stomped my foot in anger. “He” always seemed to take Emily away right when we were getting to a very crucial part in this mystery. And now she disappeared when she told me that she needed protection by her…from her. It confused me a lot. How could I be protected by Emily and be hunted by the same person at the same time? It was impossible. I shook my head, trying to clear my head. Then again, it wasn’t impossible for a ghost to do that at the same time.

-----------------------------------------------------

I went back to Gus’ boat like I was supposed to and I sat on my bed once again. I was thinking in Gloria and Sanchez’ memory and hoping that they were in a happier place. A thought suddenly struck my mind. Did Emily possess Sanchez’ body and make Sanchez kill himself in the explosion? I knew that Emily had possessed Gloria and made her kill herself, but it was possible that the same had happened with Sanchez. I jumped up off of my bed quickly. What if she was doing it right now, killing someone else? Or worse…what if she was waiting to possess my body and make me kill myself?

“Oh no. Oh no, oh no, oh no!” I gasped. Emily was hunting me! But I thought she was my friend? No, she can’t be. She’s killing off everyone one by one and then she’ll finish me off last. But why wait until everyone else is dead? Why not just kill me first and get it over with.

“Because she gets more souls that way.” I whispered to myself.

-------------------------------------------------------

I had a sudden flashback to when I first met Emily.

“ ‘He’ collects souls. He’s a bad man Madigan.” Emily said. I remember being confused.

“What do you mean?” I asked her.

A different memory came to my mind. Emily’s pale face swam in front of my eyes. Then, I saw myself hanging off of the ramp, about to plunge into the sea.

“Emily, please tell me what’s wrong with this ship.” I said, my fingers shaking from trying to hang onto the ramp for so long. A terrible scream erupted inside my ears as I saw blood appear on Emily’s face and hands, then she disappeared. Then I saw Emily’s blood on my hands.

I awoke from my daydreams and memories as a thought came to mind. Emily’s blood was on MY hands…she possessed people…she said to keep the locket to protect myself from her…

I gasped in horror as the pieces of this mysterious puzzle started to fit into place.

She possessed people to kill them…but she gave me the locket to protect myself from her…

“She’s been possessing me this whole time to kill me. But she can’t whenever I’m wearing the locket. She’s commanded by ‘Him’ to kill me, but she doesn’t want to hurt me. She gave me the locket to protect myself. And whenever I was about to be hurt (like when I was about to be squashed), she came out of the locket to protect me from ‘Him’! Then ‘He’ would get mad and command her to kill someone I know!” I said breathlessly. I knew I was right in thinking all of this because when I finished my sentence, Emily’s locket glowed with a bright intensity.

----------------------------------------------------------------

“Madigan…are you awake?” Emily asked me. I sat up and looked at her. She looked somewhat pleased.

“You’ve been possessing me. You’ve been sent to kill me by ‘Him’, but you don’t want to hurt me, so you gave me the locket for protection.” I said to her. She smiled.

“At last. You’ve figured it out.”

“But WHY?! Why are you doing this to me?” I demanded.

“I’m being commanded by ‘Him’, just like you said I was.” She said.

“And the day I first met you on the ramp…when you disappeared with the blood on your face and hands…and I saw it on mine…you were possessing me then?” she nodded.

“I didn’t have the locket then, so why didn’t you kill me?” I asked.

“I was inside of you, inside your soul. I had the locket with me, so I couldn’t harm you. I am a part of your soul Madigan.” Emily said.

None of this was making any sense. But I felt as if the madness had only just begun.
