Not Who You Think
King Robert stood in the throne room with King Marcos and Jacob. They all sat around a poker table and pulled their chairs in behind themselves.
King Robert, dealing cards, spoke first. “I am glad to see you both came.”
“Well I wouldn’t miss the chance to take some of your riches Robert. Not in a million lifetimes would I miss the chance.” King Marcos said with a arrogant laugh. King Jacob only nodded and looked down at his cards.
“Well I hope you both have given my ideas alot of thought. I know Jacob you and I have spoken on plenty of occasions about the matter and you Marcos know what deal you and I have going.” King Robert said passing Jacob two cards.
Jacob spoke softly. “I think we know I will agree to our deal Robert.”
“And I to ours Robert.” Marcos said with a sly smile.
“Good! Good... now get ready to shed tears fellows...”

Alex laughed pushing Michelle. “So my dad said something about your father proposing something to him a month ago.”
“How much money you want to bet it’s my hand to you ugly?” Michelle said sitting down in a patch of daisys.
“Is that any way to talk to your future husband?! Anyways who says I want to marry YOU kid?”
“Good then we won’t!”
Alex studied his friends face and knew the idea was bothering her. They had always thought they may marry. The only “suitable” match for King Robert’s only daughter was Farnold whom they both knew she hated and it was common knowledge to the Kings and elders that Michelle hated Farnold. So they assumed that Alex would be her husband someday. But now that Zach was in the picture Alex knew it would be harder for Michelle to be happy about it all.
Alex finally spoke. “Well... if we DO marry I totally give you permission to cheat. You know I love you Chelle but not to marry. But... as prince and princess we’re sorta stuck if this is what your father and mine are planning. So feel free to cheat on me. We’ll keep Zach around and he can be... hmm, what did they call it back then, long ago? Oh that’s right, he’ll be your dirty little secret. Of course that means I can cheat on you if you don’t mind.”
Michelle laughed a little and looked at Alex. “No problem with me.”
Suddenly they heard the bells for dinner. They walked back to the castle without another word.

After dinner everyone sat at the table still talking. Michelle and Alex couldn’t help but laugh through most of the dinner at Alex’s sisters and Farnold whom all seemed to be embarassed. Suddenly King Robert, sitting at the head of the table stood.
“Well I am very pleased that our kingdoms are all here together. I know that after the deals I have made between our nations we will be closer and stronger than ever.”
“Deals father?” Michelle spoke, rather out of place. King Robert gave her a bad look but answered without anger.
“Yes princess deals. One of them for your hand in marrage. Another to establish better trade routes between our kingdom and another.”
Alex cleared his throat, getting ready to say he would be pleased to marry Michelle when King Marcos spoke. “My son Farnold will be a good match for you Michelle. He will rule your kingdom and ours with an iron fist! He will be a great king!”
Michelle felt like she was being stabbed with a blade. Farnold, stunned and amused, licked his lips and eyed Michelle. Alex’s jaw dropped. His sisters, knowing how much Michelle was dying inside, laughed behind their napkins. Queen Regina looked genuinely disappointed, sighing softly. Marcos patted his son on the back and Jacob was quiet and looked at Michelle’s horrified face. “Your father wants my kingdom and yours to have better trade routes. Good idea no?”
Michelle didn’t know what to say. King Robert didn’t notice the tears falling from his daughter’s cheeks. The dinner continued and Michelle finally excused herself and got up from the table, running to find Zach.
