A/N: Thanks to all who reviewed, I really appreciate your support. To answer some questions raised in my reviews, I am male and EXTREMELY straight. The reason all my stories feature big guys is because I myself am one. I’m 6’5”, 330 pounds, middle-aged pre-workout Bob Parr build (watch The Incredibles to find out what I mean. No, seriously, watch it. NOW!). Now, on to the story!
Chapter 7
Gunfire flashed like strobe lights through the trees, illuminating a scene from hell. Men screamed and died, cut down by mines and grenades, their burned flesh and exposed entrails glistening in the chaotic light. John ran forward through the hail of fire, a Hog in his hands, murder in his eyes. One by one, his comrades fell beside him, blown apart, their blood and guts splattering him, but he pressed on. He screamed with rage as he reached the enemy nest, divining into the small hollow in front of it. A grenade flew from his hand, an explosion boomed, and a desiccated body fell at his feet. Leaping up, he opened fire with his M-60, mercilessly cutting down those who remained alive. An enemy soldier, not more than sixteen, lay on the ground, his legs blown off, screaming for mercy. He held his hand up, begging, crying, and yelling for his mother. His face hard, his eyes inhuman, John stomped on the boy’s head, grinding his heel in, crushing bone, smashing tongue and eyes. When the kid finally stopped screaming, he gave him a round to the face and moved on. Suddenly, there was the scream of an incoming rocket, and his world dissolved in a flash of fire.

John awoke with a start, his heart racing, his body flooded with adrenaline. He lay there, tense and breathing like a bull, trying to let his mind adjust to the fact that his body was not in Vietnam, and that there were no enemies about to try and kill him. Beside him, Dawn shifted in her sleep and laid her arm on his chest. He breathed deep and tried to settle back into sleep, but he couldn’t. He never could, after those dreams. That particular one had actually happened, exactly as it was. The rocket had been an indirect hit, and he’d come away with three pieces of shrapnel in his shoulder. Amazingly, they’d removed them and he was back in the paddies in a month.
John looked down at the woman whose arm lay over him. So small, so delicate, so beautiful. He sighed and wrapped an arm around her. She made a soft noise in her sleep and snuggled her chest against him. She’d had a hard day. It had been six months since she’d quit working at that little diner, and in that time she’d found a part-time teaching job in a local high school. Her kids were typical teens, and they didn’t want to learn anything from her. Still, she seemed happy to be doing what she’d gone to school to do.
John closed his eyes and rested his head back against the pillow. Business hadn’t been great for him lately. Somehow, the cops had gotten a lead from his last hit, and they were really laying on the heat. He’d had to lay low these last few weeks. Still, he reflected, it wasn’t so bad. He had enough money laid aside from previous hits to last him quite a while, and this way he got to spend more time with Dawn. He’d been teaching her martial arts and shooting these last few months, determined that nothing was going to happen to her again like the last incident.
She snuggled against him again, and he finally felt himself relax. He’d come a long way from those death filled jungles. There was no reason to dwell in them. Gently stroking his woman’s silky hair, he drifted back to sleep.

Dawn sighed heavily as she walked out of the classroom. Sometimes she wondered why she even bothered with these kids. It seemed like the boys were all idiot wannabe gangsters and the girls were dimwitted sluts. Still, she thought, how were they going to change if no one taught them? That’s what she had to try to do. She had to admit, however, that after the results of the tests she had just graded it seemed like a futile effort sometimes.
As Dawn reached the door to the building, she heard something off to her left. She looked up and saw the biggest troublemaker in her class, Jerod Perry. He was the typical gangster wannabe, medium height, skinny, and with an attitude far too big for him. He was flanked by his three lackeys. There was Davey, a big, fat kid who was the main muscle for this bully gang; Smiley, a mean little snake who was rumored to know a little karate; and Jim, a large, somewhat handsome boy who was a master at high school blackmail.
The four boys were clustered around a very pretty, shy girl who’s name was Maria. She was simply gorgeous, with long, shimmering red hair, deep sea-green eyes, and a lovely, willowy figure. The little punks were making crude comments to her. She shot a frightened look at Dawn, who immediately stepped forward to intervene. As she did, Jerod reached down and flipped Maria’s skirt up, revealing a pink thong. They howled with laughter as she began to cry. Dawn, incensed, stalked forward.
“Jerod Perry!” she yelled. He turned in surprise and she hit him full across the face with her book bag. The force of the blow knocked him off his feet. He landed hard on his back, looking utterly shocked, his nose bleeding.
“How dare you do that to this girl!” Dawn shouted. “You apologize to her this instant!”
His eyes full of rage, Jerod leapt to his feet.
“Fuck you, teach!” he said. “My dad’s a lawyer, I ain’t taking no shit from you! Davey, teach this bitch some respect!”
Grinning, Davey lumbered forward. Once, long ago, Dawn would have been scared of him. Now, she felt no fear at all as she stepped forward and swiftly kicked him in the balls. He yelped with pain and fell to the floor, clutching himself. Then Smiley darted forward, hitting her in the face with a backhanded blow. Dawn fell back and then rolled to her feet, pissed beyond all reason now. Maria was gone, running in fear from the fight. Smiley came in again, grinning, and went for a kick. Dawn stepped aside from the blow, caught his leg, and jerked it forward. Overbalanced, he fell to the floor. Dawn kicked him in the balls when he was down, then turned to Jerod.
She froze as she saw the knife in his hands. He was trembling, his lip and nose swelling.
“Not so bad now, are ya, bitch?” he said. “It’s time you learned who’s boss in this school.” He stepped forward, knife held out. Dawn watched him warily, looking for an opening. She got it when he leaned forward and beckoned her to him, still holding the knife, apparently thinking that she wasn’t a threat anymore. His opinion about that changed when she straight-armed him, almost certainly cracking his nose. He fell to the ground, sobbing, then leapt to his feet and ran away.
“This ain’t over, bitch!” he screamed through his tears. “You’re dead!”
Panting, Dawn gathered her things and headed out. This was great, this was just what she needed. She was probably going to lose her job, she was going to be sued, and God only knew what John was going to do.
END
A/N: Hmmmmm, what WILL John do? Can’t wait to find out, heh heh. VERY sorry it took me so long to update. I have been as busy as a hummingbird lately, and that writer’s block still hasn’t gone away. Please read and review, and hopefully the next few will be better. Ciao!
