Birthday Wishes
Chapter 6
Birthday Wishes
I spent the next 4 years living with my grandfather, every full moon he and I would transform into werewolf and we spent the whole night romping and playing in the forest.
When the sun would rise we would head back to the house and sleep the whole day. It was two days after the full moon; I awoke as I did every day.
Stretching and then heading down stairs, I was greeted by my granddad’s smiling face and breakfast sitting on the table.
My grandfather was looking at me rather strangely today and it was beginning to make me worry. “Is something wrong granddad?” all of a sudden his face lit up and he said, “happy birthday Nathan!”
I was shocked he remembered that today was my 10th birthday; I would soon be old enough to go the magic school. My grandfather told me to hurry and finish, because today he was going to take me to Magito Place.
It was a place where you could find anything to do with the great magic arts. Mages would buy robes and scrolls there, clerics would buy healing herbs, paladins could buy enchanted weapons and armor, and healers could buy all their supplies.
We left the house about noon that day and arrived in Taranga about 2. I was surprised that it didn’t take us long to get there. My grandfather told me that we didn’t live more than about two hours outside of Taranga.
It is where Magito Place is located, my grandfather and I walk into town and then headed for the inn. We arrived at the Twin Raven Inn and then headed for the alley.
Once we reached the end of the alleyway, my grandfather chanted an Arpendo spell on the wall. I watched in aw as the wall split down the middle and then opened the way to the street.
My grandfather took my hand and led me into the crowded street. This was the first time I had ever seen so many people, my granddad explained to me that a lot of families were buying their children supplies for school.
“Will I be going to school this year granddad?” “No, I am afraid not, next year you will be able to go”. Sighing I followed as my grandfather led me to Lucatos it was the place that mages money was kept.
I stayed close to my grandfather as we entered the bank. I could not help but look around at all the strange creatures hustling around in the bank. They looked like angels but with multi colored wings, they were the most beautiful things I have seen, aside from the horses back home.
My grand father led me over to one of the counters and we waited as one of the creatures went to withdraw some money from my grandfather’s account.
After that was finished we left and started looking around all of the shops to find me a birthday present. We had walk around for about an hour, when something in the Fantastic Creatures shop caught my eye.
There sitting in a cage was the most fascinating animal I had ever seen, it was a small black kitten with two black wings protruding from it’s back. Excitedly I dragged my grandfather over to the shop window, pointing at the kitten I said, “ Grandpa that is what I would like for my birthday, I could use a companion for when you have to leave me alone at home”.
My grandfather nodded and led me into the shop, after a few minutes with the cage in my hands; we left to head for home. I named the kitten Misty, my companion, someone I can relate with.
As the days turned into nights and the months past, I grew closer to my grandfather and my new companion. I never heard anything from my family and was glad for that. I never wanted to see them again or that house, were I was forced to survive.
I was thankful for my grandfather and my new home; in fact I never let him forget it. I spent the days with my grandfather and the nights with my new pet.
As I sit here on my bed writing in my log, I watch as the snow gently falls outside. It is winter now, before I would fear for my life this time of year. But here in my warm room, in my new home, I no longer have to worry about freezing to death.
Christmas will be here soon, it is the 1st of December and I am looking forward to spending my first real Christmas with my grandfather, here in my new home.
