chapter 7

Raina woke up the next morning feeling better than she had since before she was kidnapped. She took a quick shower and wrapped a towel around herself before going downstairs to find something to eat. She walked into the kitchen to a note on the counter:

"You can find more clothes in the dresser in the bedroom, you are welcome to wear anything that will fit. There are more flannel pants in the closet in the bathroom as there's not one in the bedroom and I like to take my showers before bed anyway. If you leave me a list of your sizes I will stop by a store during lunch and buy you some clothes to last you until I can take you shopping myself. You are also welcome to help yourself to anything in the refrigerator. I feel I should tell you I work a lot so I wont be home until late at night and I usually leave early in the morning. I would like to know how you came to be with Mark and why. I would also appreciate it if you told me your name."

The note was signed Adam, 'so that's who I'm staying with' Raina thought. She replied 'I know it will sound outrageous, but if you can believe me, I was kidnapped and brought to him. Upon arriving I entered hell, performing sexual services that I've never even dreamed of for his enjoyment. I really don't think I need to go into any more detail with that.' Raina wrote down her sizes and signed the note before talking a look in the fridge. She made herself a sandwich before going upstairs to get dressed. She put on a wife beater and went to the bathroom to find a pair of pajama pants to wear. When she was done she took her sandwich outside with her book to read in the sun. She found a lawn chair on the side of the house and brought it out to the back and placed it in a sunny spot before making herself comfortable. A little sun would do her good. She had been locked up without so much as a window for months now. Raina laid back and resumed the book, reading for a few hours before storm clouds started rolling in. 'I didn't know it was supposed to rain, but then again, it would help if I watched the weather report.' She thought. She put the chair back and went back inside, calling King in with her. They went to the couch and she decided to take a break from reading for a while to watch some TV. All that was on was afternoon talk shows. "I guess TV hasn't changed since I've been gone." She told the dog as a third fight broke out on Jerry Springer. She began flipping through the channels but found nothing else that interested her. Raina decided to make her late lunch and jumped when the phone rang as she was walking by. At first she didn't know if she should answer or not and waited for the machine to pick up. The automated voice telling whoever was calling instructed them to leave a message and that the owner would get back to them later. A woman's voice played saying "Miss, please pick up if you're there, I have a message from Adam for you." That was all she heard before grabbing the phone and saying a quick greeting. Normally she would let the woman talk to the machine, as she hated telephone and was a firm believe that 'silence is golden'; meaning, she would rather sit pleasantly with someone in silence than gossip, but her curiosity when it came to Adam forced her to pick up the phone and talk to the woman.

"Good evening Miss, my name is Marie, I am Adam's secretary. He asked me to call you and make sure you were finding your way about all right"

"Oh yes" Raina answered politely "I am getting along just fine." Raina heard what sounded like writing and several voices in the room and then realized she was on speaker phone.

"That's wonderful, dear. Adam also asked me to find out your name, he said you were a little out of it when you first arrived."

"Raina" she said "my name is Raina." She heard more writing in the background before the woman spoke again.

"He wants to know if you need anything, or if you have any preferences on food or soap or anything."

Raina couldn't help herself, she laughed aloud, for the first time in months. "He is very thoughtful but I'm fine."

"If you need anything at all, don't hesitate to call me. I will relay any and all messages to Adam."

"I will keep that in mind, thank you." Raina said before hanging up. Marie seemed like a pleasant woman, though it would have been better to have talked directly to Adam. Raina soon put the conversation behind her and continued into the kitchen to get something to eat. She found a pizza for one in the freezer and heated it up in the microwave. She took it into the dining room and ate while watching the rain from the window. So much had happened since even before this entire ordeal began. Starting with Jeremy, how could he? True, he wasn't the greatest boyfriend she could have imagined, he was the only one she had ever had. That night, was something that she wanted to block out, but she just couldn't. Her heart was ripped into a million pieces, and then she had been kidnapped and raped by a dog. She had hated the dog in the weeks after that, but even he had shown her more tenderness than Mark. King had also been the one to lead Adam to her. If it wasn't for the dog she would still be strapped to that awful table, still wishing death upon herself.

Raina had just finished her pizza when the lights went out. It was getting to be late evening and what light you could see outside was quickly disappearing. Raina washed the dish she had used and decided to go upstairs to take a nap. Adam had mentioned in the note he left that he worked late and the least she could do was be up later to have a talk with him, she owed him that much.
