"I'm sorry."
James sat on the edge of a river throwing rocks into the water, not one of the stones would skip, but he didn\'t care. He felt numb almost. He didn\'t feel angry at Alex or even sad, he only felt stupid. ~I knew who she was before we did that.~ he thought. ~And still I put myself through that.~ He shook his head. ~I must be a glutten for punishment.~ He threw another rock but it only plopped into the water, he sighed and remembered when he and Alex had come out here. He remembered how he\'d laughed at her when she told him she couldn\'t skip rocks.
\"A god, who\'s been alive for centuries can\'t skip a rock?\" he\'d joked.
She\'d glared at him, and he only gave her a smile, then he taught her how to, which led to lovemaking under the same tree he stood under now. He sighed again. He was so young then, had no idea that she would leave him high and dry. ~Now look at me.~ he thought harshly. ~She\'s managed to screw me over again.~
He threw another rock and it, like the many before it, plopped into the water, he watched the ripples and wasn\'t surprised when a familiar voice flooded his ears.
\"It\'s all in the wrist.\" she said.
He didn\'t even bother to turn to her. Instead he just glared at the waning ripple.
\"You taught me that. Remember?\" she waited for an answer.
\"How can I forget?\" He asked. She smiled, \"No, really. How can I forget?\" he asked turning to her, the smile on her face now a confused frown. \"Tell me. Is there some drug? Some magick that would erase these memories from my mind?\" He asked, \"Because I don\'t want \'em anymore.\"
\"You don\'t mean that.\" She said in a hushed tone, almost a whisper.
\"Oh, yes, let\'s talk about people who say things they don\'t mean shall we.\" His voice was louder and as he spoke his eyes got darker.
\"James.\" she again spoke in a whisper. \"I-\"
\"No, you said you wouldn\'t leave me.\" he said.
\"Technically-\" she began but he cut her off again.
\"Alex why would you do this to me?...Again.\"
That last word if nothing else cut through her like a dagger. \"James I never meant to hurt you. I\"
\"Then what did you mean to do, huh?\" he asked, his eyes searing her very soul.
~So much pain.~ she recognized that in the emerald pools. She also saw herself in them. ~I caused it.~ she knew that.
\"I don\'t know.\" she said. \" I do things, then I think about it, you know how I am.\"
\"Yeah I do.\" His voice was unsettlingly queit. \"I think that\'s the problem.\" he turned and walked away. Alex had never had anyone turn their back to her, not like this anyway. Not him. She swallowed the boulder sized lump in her throat as she watched him walk away. She watched him until he was out of her sight, which took him a while since her powers allowed her very good eyesight. Once he was gone she turned to the water, it seemed to sparkle and reflect her memories of him like a looking glass. Alex then did something she\'d never done before. A tear rolled down her right cheek as she looked at the water. The tears continued to build until she was blinded by them. She stumbled back into the tree trunk sniffing, and gulping. She leaned against it for a while gripping at the bark, her strong hands tearing deep gashes into the tee itself. She soon stepped forward and let out a scream as she unleashed ball after ball of dark purple energy onto the tree. Her eyes shut tight and her screams frightening the birds away. When she finally stopped the tree was destoyed, she watched as the part of the bark that James had carved their names into, fell to the ground with a soft thud. She panted, taking breathes that she didn\'t need, and gulped. She fell to the ground, her shoulders shaking feiriously as the goddess of war sobbed into her hands.
