The Fallen

A/N - OMG! I never, ever expected anything like this to come out! This is awfully dark...

----------------------------------------

The slow burning embers of hate fanned dangerously within Vishnu\'s heart. The fire of enmity was like hell\'s inferno consuming him as he paced the length of the alley. If he had caught a glimpse of himself in a mirror he would\'ve been shocked at what he would see. The sparkling gleam of his golden wings had taken on the darker color of umber at the edge of each feather. The crisp bottomless clarity of his pale green eyes were now rimmed in a muddy yellow. He was changing. The unconditional love his kind were supposed to carry always, incorruptible, was giving way to the blacker thoughts of an evil heart. And he did nothing to fight it. \"Evil done in the name of Good is still Good, right?\" he asked himself. Doubt, then, would creep into his mind. He felt himself falling slowly, irrevocably into darkness. The light he could always see radiating from heaven was becoming dimmed and the blood light from hell became stronger in his sight. The angel was warring with the blackness and losing. He felt all of this inside himself and gritted his teeth in frustration. In the end, all he could feel was hate for his brother and love for Adisa.

\"I don\'t care what happens to me,\" he muttered. \"Let me fall into hell forever, as long as I can save Adisa.\" That was all that mattered to him now. A crunch of a footstep in the dark alleyway, caused him to whip around sharply. His reverie interrupted, he scowled. A shadow shuffled toward him, it\'s eyes glittered with a feral light.

\"Hey freak. We don\'t like your kind \'round these parts.\" The voice was like grating metal.

Vishnu startled, not expecting to be seen. \"Who are you; what do you want?\"

\"Like I said, we don\'t much care for your kind hanging around here.\" Three more shapes emerged from the shadows. They moved to circle around the startled angel. The smell of sulfur strong in the stagnant air.

\"You don\'t know what you\'re getting yourselves into,\" Vishnu warned, then, voice low and dangerous. He allowed the fire in his blood to boil into a deadly rage as he faced the lesser minions of hell. Without warning, they all attacked, clawed hands reaching outward toward him. Sharp teeth exposed in inhuman grins. Without thinking at all, Vishnu crouched low and slipped between two of them, plunging his hand deep within one\'s chest effortlessly, near ripping it\'s body in half with the forward movement. Black blood fountained outward, covering him in gore. He threw what served as it\'s heart into another\'s face. The hardened organ breaking it\'s nose with an audible crack. They all paused warily, looking at the bloodied angel with the predatory glint in his eyes.

\"Your kind ain\'t s\'posed to be killin\',\" the broken nosed one muttered.

\"I\'ll send you all back to hell! Come on!\" Vishnu shouted as he ran back into their midst. The killing rage fogging all rational thought. Brutally, he killed the other three without any effort. Only the last one managed to tear four long gashes across his chest as he reached to rip his throat out. The scream cut short as it\'s voice box was torn away. The savage grin of the fallen angel the last darkening image it\'s dying eyes saw. Vishnu looked around for any more attackers and found the carnage he had created, the killing fury fading away. The furrows of deeply ripped skin in his chest started to throb and burn as he looked down at his hands. Black gore covered his arms up to the elbows and more was splashed all over the rest of him. Rivulets of it trickled down his face mingling with his sweat. His once gleaming feathers now stained blacker than the night sky. \"Wh-what have I done?\" he sobbed, uselessly wiping his hands on the front of his jeans. He collapsed in a heap amongst the tattered remains of the fallen minions he had ripped apart with his bare hands; not caring. He belonged with the gruesome dead. He belonged in hell. There was no going back, now. He had killed. He had enjoying killing. The feel of the blood warming his hands as he ripped the organs right out of their yielding bodies had made him hot with savage lust. And now, he was completely empty. Despair and hopelessness chilled his veins. His brother was right. They were the same. The same blood, the same flawed genes. How could Adisa return his love now? Was he even capable of love any more? Now that he was corrupted beyond hope, covered in blood? There was no salvation for him. No heaven to return to, no forgiveness for the unforgivable. This was what he had become, what he was capable of, and as the blood congealed thickly around him, he sobbed with all the heartbreak of a lost child.

Erebus, in the middle of his recreations with Adisa, jerked upright as if someone had slapped him. He vaulted out of the bed and stared absently at her squirming, unsatisfied form.

\"Something\'s happened. Something unexpected,\" he said with an openly confused look. \"Very unexpected... but intriguing.\" His serious look softened into a smug grin. \"You, don\'t move. Don\'t touch yourself,\" he commanded Adisa. \"I\'ll be back shortly.\" Hopefully with company, he thought. Almost, but not quite, wringing his hands in perverse glee, he grabbed up his disgarded pants, tugged them on quickly and strode away, ignoring the whimpering coming from the bed. His thoughts already ahead of him.

Vishnu wasn\'t sure how he ended back at Adisa\'s apartment, but when he roused awake the next morning, he found himself prone across the bathroom floor. Evidence of the previous night\'s gore and vomit everywhere. He rose shakily to his knees and pulled himself up to lean heavily on the sink edge. Bile rising in his throat with the motion. A look in the mirror at the horror he had become had him dry heaving into the sink. It felt like he was being punched every time he doubled over; his system trying futility to expel the nonexistent contents of his stomach. Exhausted, the spasms finally stopped, he turned the water on with trembling hands. Black blood washed down the drain like grotesque watercolor paint. The visage in the mirror staring back, blank with shock. His blonde hair darkened by the gory stain, hung down limply in his eyes. The once clear eyes turning a hazy yellow, stared out of his pale shrunken face. It was hard to believe that the beloved of heaven could ever look so loathsome. Even Erebus would find him repulsive, he was sure. He splashed the biting cold water up onto his face and scrubbed his skin harshly. The floral soap burned his eyes and he scrubbed and scrubbed. He ended up sticking his whole head under the water and came up gasping. Reaching for a towel, he noticed the condition of his clothes; the gaping wounds on his chest oozed sickly, mingling with the dryed black of the other\'s blood.

\"Shit,\" he half-heartedly cursed and stripped his ragged clothes off. The shower sputtered briefly before coming full on. Warm water, barely room temperature, caused him to stifle another gasp as he stepped in. It felt good after his body adjusted to the slight chill and he stood there for long minutes letting it run down his head, wings and back; the murky water that flowed down the drain, slowly clearing. Finally, he shook out his wings slightly, sending water droplets flying and reached for the soap. Reluctant to wash out the deep wounds, he ground his teeth with pain and scrubbed them out relentlessly. The stinging gave way to numbness and he continued to scrub the remains of the blood from his body.

Stepping from the tub, he quickly toweled off and wrapped it around his waist. His feathers dry almost instantly after he shook them out vigorously. He noted that they remained stained black from the blood and his lips tightened into a slight frown as he picked up what remained of his clothes and tossed them in the trash can. The rest of the clean up went just as quickly. Thankfully, he had made the toilet, mostly, the night before when he emptied the contents of his stomach. He still didn\'t know how he had made his way back here. Maybe he had teleported himself as he passed out, knowing this to be a safe place.

Who knows, he thought to himself and padded to the kitchen. The fridge was, unfortunately, empty except for a half a bottle of wine, a tub of butter and a few packets of ketchup. \"What the hell did she ever eat,\" he mused. Probably ate out a lot, he answered himself. He opened a nearby cabinet and found a partial loaf of bread and thanked God. He scarfed the bread ravenously, after very quickly swiping a pass of butter on it first, and downed the wine just as swiftly. Towel still wrapped around his trim waist, he flopped face down into Adisa\'s small bed. He then allowed himself to think again. Where those thoughts travelled disturbed him deeply, but he pursued the path relentlessly, fiercely and unflinching. He would find Adisa and confront his brother. Irregardless of the final destination of his now tainted soul, he would, by his hand, see justice done. And killing his brother now was not a question of if, but when.
