The Missing
Donovan pulled the car onto Dix highway driving a little faster than he probably needed to. Something about Molly not being home set him off. She was important to the investigation he knew; he just didn't know how yet. "How you doing?" he asked Robyn who had a white-knuckle grip on the arm rest.
Robyn turned her head at the sound of his voice to look at him, "I'm as good as can be expected given the situation," she replied then turned back to look out the front. Her mind was wondering where Molly could have gone to. She couldn’t have gone to a boyfriend's, because she hane. ne. But what if Molly did have a boyfriend but didn’t tell her about him. No, molly wouldn’t do that...would she?
After a few minutes, Donovan pulled the car around a corner and in front of 150 Birch Street. "Maybe you should stay here and I can take a look around." He didn't really expect Robyn to agree to it, but he would feel better if she did.
"You are kidding me right?" Robyn asked but didn’t give him time to answer as she got out the car and dashed up the drive way. She stopped at the door and pressed her face the window. Everything was a mess. She gasped, "Donovan," she called, "You have to see this!" It wasn’t like Molly to be this messy.
Donovan looked around the yard while Robyn walked up to the door. At the sound her almost panicked voice, he pulled out his service weapon and hurried up to the door. Peering in, it looked like some sort of struggle had taken place. Donovan tried the knob but it was locked. "Stand back," he said to Robyn and put his shoulder into the door. The jamb around the lock splintered and the door fell open. Raising a finger to his lips and then making a 'stay here' motion to Robyn he walked in, weapon at the ready.
~Men~ Robyn thought as she stood there waiting. She looked across and saw Miss Mannings. The busy body who knew everyone else's business, "Miss Mannings!" she called and jogged toward the fence, "I'm looking for Molly have you seen her?" she asked. "No," Miss Mannings said squirting water on her roses, "Haven’t seen her since she left with her new boyfriend." Robyn moved closer, "New boyfriend?" she asked. Miss Mannings nodded, "A real cute one too," she grinned, "You should have seen him!" Robyn turned and ran back toward Molly's place.
Donovan quickly cleared the house and put his weapon away. Motioning for Robyn to enter, he looked at the mess around the room. It looked like the place had been ransacked; not just looking like a struggle had taken place. Someone was looking for something. "See anything obvious that is missing? Jewelry, valuables, anything?"
Robyn moved about the room then up the stairs. She walked into Molly's room and noticed that the bed was made but it was all a mess. "A struggled?" she asked Donovan. She moved over to where Molly's jewelry was kept and mused over them as well by wrapping her hand in her handkerchief, "Nothing's missing," she reported, "If they were going to take anything, it would have to be this," she held up a giant diamond ring, "Its still here...this wasn’t a robbery. Miss Mannings from next door said that Molly left with her boyfriend."
"Boyfriend? You said she didn't have a boyfriend. Did Miss Mannings describe him?" Donovan walked over to the bed and looked at it intently for a moment. "The bed was messed, but not by anyone lying on it. I bet whoever was here was here alone, not with Molly. Whatever he was looking for, if he had Molly with him, he probably would have gotten what it was out of her without having to disturb everything."
"She didn’t," Robyn said as she walked into the bathroom. She noticed hair, "Oh no," she muttered, "Take a look at this."
"Don't touch it." Donovan got down on the ground near the hair and used the end of his ballpoint pen to move it a little. "Black. Micheal..." he muttered under his breath.
"What?" Robyn asked not completely hearing, "Who's Michael?"
Donovan looked up at her. "Nothing." He tried to divert her attention from his comment, "Did Molly have anyone who would want to hurt her?"
"Why would anyone want to hurt a secretary?" Robyn asked in frustration, "Who is Micheal?"
Donovan pulled out his cell phone. He might as well tell her some of it. "Micheal was a colleague of Chad's. He was into the same things. He has black hair. It just reminded me of his is all." He walked out of the bathroom and called the station, requesting the crime scene team and some additional officers.
Robyn shivered at that. She felt weak. "No," she muttered, "Not Molly. She wouldn’t hurt anyone." She knew she couldn’t sit down in the house because the crime lab had to go over everything but she needed to sit down, "Don, I need to sit down."
He wrapped his arm around Molly and helped her outside to the small porch and sat down next to her. He stroked the hair out of her eyes. "It's I diI didn't mean to scare you. I'm sure Molly is alright." He didn't know if his words sounded as hollow as they felt to him right now. Donovan knew that Micheal kept his victims alive for a time after they were abducted. But why come to Molly's place and rummage through it?
Robyn knew he was lying to protect her and she wished he wouldn’t but it felt good. She felt helpless. She wanted to do something. She wanted to scream but that wouldn’t help. She only moved closer toovanovan and buried her face into his chest and allowed her tears to fall.
Donovan held her for a time. Soon the other officers came and he helped Robyn to his car where she could stay until he was done. It took a while of explaining and helping go over the place before he finally returned to the car. "What was Molly's connection to Chad, if any?"
"She only knew him through me," Robyn said not really looking at anything but staring, "She wasn’t his friend. She didn’t even like him."
"Was Chad ever here?"
"At the house?" she asked looking over at Donovan now, "Yah, she invited us over for dinner sometimes... or she would come to my place."
Well, it was something at least. "Do you know if Chad ever left anything here? I'm thinking that whoever has Molly took her to get something from her that was Chad's. Any ideas?"
"I don’t know," Robyn said, "I don’t know," she started to get agitated as tears ran down her face as it dawned on her, "They took her didn’t they?"
"I don't want to speculate at this point." Donovan saw the hurt in her eyes and he pulled her into his arms, wanting all of her pain to go away. ~I think I should have a talk with Chad, ~ he thought to himself.
Robyn pressed her open palm to his chest and rested her head on it. She wanted to just break down and cry. Just curl up into a ball but she couldn’t. "I want to help you," she said silently, "I want to find her."
He put his lips against the top of her head and whispered, "I know you do. And I will do everything I can think of to help. At this point there is only one man who connects all of this..."
"Chad," she said without even thinking about it, "It has to be him." she lifted her head from his chest, "I want to talk to him. Just let me at him."
"I don't think that is a good idea. I can talk to him myself." He didn't want to subject Robyn to him again. It sounded like he already hurt her too much.
Robyn frowned, "You know I don’t need you to protect me you know," she said frustrated, "My best friend is missing and I want to know why."
"I know. Alright. It’s too late to get to his prison this afternoon. We can head out in the morning. Until then I need to work the case, maybe we won't have to go see him after all. I'll take you back to your place. We'll find her. I promise." He secretly hoped he would be able to make good on his promise.
Robyn sat back ir ser seat and zoned out. She needed a safe place to be at the moment. She felt sick to her stomach, "Yah," she said sadly, "You'll find her."
Donovan set his jaw and drove the car back to her place. The ride was quiet, both of them lost in their own thoughts. Donovan for his part was trying to piece together the puzzle. What was Micheal looking for, why did Molly have it, and what was he going to do to her?
Robyn's mind was a blank for the whole drive. She was only awoken when he tapped her shoulder. She turned a blank stare at him then got out of the car.
Donovan was going to just drop her off, but she was out of it, in shock over what had happened. He led her to her place and using her key, opened the door. It was early, only four o'clock, but Robyn looked like she was going to fall over. "Do you want to take a nap and I can do some investigating?"
"I-I'll be fine," she lied as she turned and walked into the house, "go." She turned to her living room, "I'll be just perfect." She poured herself some gin and sat down.
"I can do most of the work from here. They assigned another detective to scene at ... to Molly's place. I'm just keeping it all together at this point." He sat down next to her. There was nothing but awkward things to say. Instead he sat back into the couch and rubbed the back of his neck. Out of nowhere he blurted. "Porn."
Robyn turned her head to look at him, "Huh?" she asked confused.
"During Chad's trial, there was an internet film developing company that got busted for developing Chad's porn shoots with those kids. The transcript said that the negatives were never found, just the prints. Chad's place... your place was searched, but no one looked into Molly's. Maybe that's what was what he was looking for at Molly’s." Donovan went over to his briefcase that was by the door from when he came over the night before. Opening it, he started rifling through some documents.
"Why would Molly have it?" she asked, "That makes no sense." she took a gulp from her glass, "It makes no sense Donovan."
Donovan looked up at her. "Yes it does, if Chad put it there for safe keeping. If it wasn't at his place, then he couldn't get in trouble for having it." Donovan finally found the transcript he was looking for and thumbed through it. "Just as I thought, there was only one search warrant signed, for Chad's place. In the list of items recovered, there was no mention of negatives for the film."
"Damn it!" she swore. "He could have hidden it in the bathroom or the living room or kitchen, oh no."
"Yeah, my thoughts exactly. But whoever searched the place must have found them, otherwise why would he not be there looking still?" Donovan dropped the papers into his briefcase again and sat down next to Robyn. "Things are starting to make sense, at least a little."
"Not really," she said sadly, "Why take Mol?"
That was a subject Donovan really didn't want to get into, mostly because he knew why. "I don't know for sure."
She shook her head and emptied her glass then placed it on the table in front of her. She wanted this over but it wasn’t. She frowned and rested her head against the back of the seat, "Ok you can do what you have to you know. I don’t need a baby sitter."
"You will if you keep knocking them back like that," Donovan said. In truth he didn't want to leave her. What guarantee did he have that Micheal wouldn't come after her as well? "I'll have a uniform put outside for the night. We can go find Chad in the morning. If that is ok with you. Unless you want me to stay that is."
"I want you to stay," she said with her eyes still closed then a smile came over her lips, "I only had one." she said then grinned, "Kiss me."
"The night is still young." Donovan leaned over and kissed her gently on the lips. It felt odd to be doing this right now, but it also felt right somehow.
She smiled when he moved back, "Thank you," she lifted her head and opened her eyes. She felt refreshed as she took a deep breath, "What now want some dinner?"
"Um... sure, what do you have?"
She smiled mischievous at that but got up. She picked up her glass and walked into the kitchen, "I have chicken, steaks and eggs. What would you like?"
“The beef sounds good.”
She grinned, "Fine," she said as she pulled them out the freezer. She stuck them in a large container then stuck them in the sink. She turned the hot water on them and let it run.
Donovan got up and walked into the kitchen. Upon seeing the steaks in the sink he looked at Robyn. "Ok. That'll take about an hour to thaw. What do you want to do until then?"
"I don’t know," she said as she walked back and sat on the chair across from him. "You suggest something I will tell you whether it’s a yes or now."
Donovan looked at her oddly. He didn't quite understand what she was getting at. "I don't think I quite understand."
"I bet," she got up and walked into the kitchen. She pulled some chips out of the cupboard and pulled it open. She dipped her hand in and began eating.
Donovan pulled out his phone and dialed in the station while he watched Robyn's back from the front room. He got caught up on the situation at Molly's house; there was no evidence of robbery and the hair had been sent to the crime lab for testing. Miss Manning had described Molly's boyfriend as matching Micheal Christenson's features. Donovan swore to himself and hurried to finish the conversation
Robyn walked to the fridge and pulled out some orange juice. She poured a glass full and took a large swallow. She then went back to her chips.
Donovan got up and walked over behind Robyn and leaned against her. He put his forehead down on her shoulder. He had hoped that it wasn't Micheal, but Miss Manning has pretty much sealed up the story. Now Donovan had to find him, even more than before.
Robyn felt his head and placed her chip down. She turned and his head fell on her chest, "Donovan?" she called, "Baby hey, what’s wrong?"
He couldn't tell her everything, it would break her. How could he keep a secret though? Was this why police relationships usually ended badly? "I think Molly was taken by a very bad man. And I can't do anything about it.”
"What do you mean?" she asked him, "Who?"
"A friend of Chad's. Someone I've been looking for. I think he took Molly and used her to get to the film. It probably has pictures of him on it." He picked his head up and looked at Robyn.
Robyn wanted to cry, "It’s not your fault," she said truthfully, "It’s not your fault."
"If I had gotten to him quicker.. before..." Donovan fought back the desire to run and simply stood there. "I'll get her back. Don't worry."
"Don," she said cradling his face, "Stop worrying. None of this is your fault." She pulled his head so that it rested on her shoulder, "I don’t want you to worry."
"Yeah." Donovan wrapped his arms around her for a few moments, and then broke the embrace. He picked his head up and kissed Robyn on the lips, letting his lips linger against hers for a long moment.
Robyn moaned, "Feel better?"
"Yeah," he whispered. "You know how to make a man feel better."
She grinned, "I wish Chad had thought that," she said as she kissed his neck then reached up and kissed him again
Don steadied himself with his hands on the counter as he pressed his body against hers. "He didn't know what he missed." Desire welled up in him as he pressed his lips against hers, then to her cheek, and slowly down her neck.
She pulled her head back and moaned, "Yah," she said as all thought left her mind. She braced both arms on his shoulders.
Donovan reached out and picked Robyn up, setting her down on the counter. He slid himself against the cabinet between her legs and worked his tongue along her collarbone and upper chest. Her dark skin tasted sweet on his lips as his stress ebbed away in the heat of her body.
Robyn moved against his hand as she brought her hands up to bury into his hair. She smiled as she closed her eyes and bent her head to kiss his.
He felt her tongue against his lips and he opened his mouth to hers. Their tongues intertwined as his hands moved up under her shirt, gently sliding up her slender back.
She shivered and pressed her back against his hand. "You know," she said as she sighed, "Anyone can look through that window over there."
He looked over at the window. "We've already caught the peeping Tom, remember?" He couldn’t close the curtain on the window without leaving her for a moment, and right now, that was the last thing he wanted to do.
She sighed and giggled as she tried to move against him again, "Quit stalling," she joked.
He pulled his hands out and walked over to the window. Closing the curtain he turned to see that Robyn had quickly removed her shirt. He smiled as he walked back over and took position up against the counter again. "Now... where were we?"
She smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck, "I don’t know," she said, "I'm gamed to start over," she winked at him.
"Well, I don't think it would hurt any. He kissed her again, deep and long, as he expertly un-clasped her bra with one hand. As he pulled it off her shoulders, his tongue worked its way down her chest again, taking its time until it slid between her breasts.
She shivered slightly and brought her legs up to wrap around his waist. She then scooted forward until she was pressing against him completely. She began moving his head to where she wanted it.
He felt his head being directed to one of her firm breasts and he obliged, taking the nipple into his mouth and rolling it around with his tongue. A moan from Robyn told him that he was on the right track and he brought his hand up to become acquainted with her breasts' twin to the right. He squeezed and tugged on her nipples, enjoying hearing the sounds tescaescaped her lips.
She gasped and moaned. She had to get accustomed to this. She felt as though she was being burnt inside out. She moved against his body. "Don," she gasped.
He stopped what he was doing and looked up at Robyn. "What is it?"
Robyn looked down at him, "You've set me on fire," she said leaning in to press her nose to his, "So hot," she said before covering his lips with hers.
Donovan tried to smile, but her lips against his made that impossible. As she kissed him he wrapped his arms around her and picked her up from the counter. With a few steps he carried her over to the couch and laid her down gently upon it. Gently he took her arms from around his neck and laid them down next to her. He slid down, kissing her stomach as he unbuttoned her pants and slipped them off of her legs.
She watched him. Her body seemed to be melting into the sofa. She wanted to feel his body on hers, in hers, around hers, "Please?" she pleaded.
Donovan pulled off her panties gently as he lowered his pants. He could take an hour getting her ready for what was about to happen, but she hadn't shown that much patience yet. In response to her question he moved over her, hovering above her, watching her squirm under him. She so wanted him and he wanted her.
She reached her legs up and wrapped them around him. Then she tried to get him down to her but he wouldn’t be hurried. She closed her eyes and used her feet to try and push his bum down. She felt as though she was goio buo burn to death, "You have to put out the fire," she said trying to catch her breath.
"I . I . I just like seeing you like this." ~It makes me feel wanted, ~ he added to himself. He slowly lowered himself onto her, impaling his member into her slowly, ever so slowly so not to hurt her. As he began pushing against her, he could see the pleasure in her eyes, the desire for release.
She gasped then and closed her eyes. She began moving against him. Her whole body shuddered violently as a climax ran through her body from the tip of her toes. She moaned. Her body slumped back but she started moving against him again.
Watching a woman in the throws of an orgasm was one of the best sightsan can could see. It not only excites a man, but also helps push him over the edge of his own climax. As she came he pushed harder and faster, pressing her deeper into the couch. Donovan threw his head back as he kept pressing again and again into her. She pulled at his shirt and tie; it felt like she was straining to get one last release, one last ce toe to feel him again.
Robyn felt as though she was going to pass out. She opened her eyes but could only see him through hasheashes and had to close them again when another climax rocked her. She whispered his name because he was the only thing she could think about, see, or feel. She arched her back and let her body go.
The sound of his name from her beautiful lips was the final straw. With a groan he felt himself let go. He was too involved, too complete, to think of what would happen. Instead he just pressed himself into her as much as he could and let it wash over him. He let his seed go deep, vaguely aware that he had no protection on. At this moment however, he didn't care, the feeling was all that mattered.
Robyn’s body fell back against the sofa as she reached up and pulled him to her. She wrapped her arms around him to soothe him. Just to remind him that she was there.
Donovan lowered himself on top of her, feeling her chest against his. They layre tre together, still connected for a long time. Finally he withdrew and put his head on her chest. "You are a wonderful woman, Robyn," he said, not really expecting an answer, he just had to say it.
"Thank you," she smiled as her tired eyelids closed, "You are not so bad yourself."
"Thanks. I'm sorry... well about..."
"Sorry about what?" she asked opening her eyes now, "Do you regret it?"
"No, I mean I'm sorry that I... well, leaving it in..." Donovan was genuinembaembarrassed. He hadn't ever done anything as rash as that before.
Robyn realized what he was saying and heat began to grow in her cheeks. "I'm not worried," she said truthfully, "If I am pregnant then I am. You don’t have to worry about it."
He picked his head up off her chest and kissed her. He searched his feelings about it, he wasn't so much worried about her being pregnant than the fact that they had just made love when they should have been out finding Molly. "a sta stand up guy. Let’s not worry about that right now though. I hope you enjoyed it."
She smiled at him, " muc much," she said truthfully.
"Good. I did too. Shall we go see if the meat is ready?" After he said it, he realized the innuendo of his remark and smiled broadly at her.
She giggled "What would involve getting up, "she mused, "and thanks to you my knees feel as though they are made from water."
Donovan smiled and ed hed her again. "Yeah, maybe we shouldt stt stay here a while. I don't feel like moving either."
She smiled, "Amen to that."
