Part 7: Funeral
AJ Angelique
By the time that Rose's head had cleared, Francis was dead and his mutilated body fell to the floor with a heavy thud. She took one look at it and a new wave of fear washed over her.
"Miss?" asked a growlish male voice and Rose looked up to see the Wolfe who had saved her in the woods. Without another word Rose imeditally scrambled up to her feet, dashed over to him and litterally ran into him as she wrapped her arms around him and proceeded to cry as she buried her face in his fur. He was both surprised and unsure what to make of the situation but as the unease passed he wraped one arm around her waist and proceeded to stroke her head with his left hand as he soothed her the best she could.
"It was horrible. He killed Grandmother and dressed up in her cloths and chased me all over the house and...how'd you get in the house?" Rose asked.
"The front door was left unlocked," the Wolfe said bluntly and Rose felt her check flush with embarassment. Though one can't blame her for forgetting something simple when they're being chased by a mad man through their own home. She was about to thank him when she heard voices calling from outside.
"Shit!" Rose cursed in a panic.
"I can't been seen here, I'll be blamed for everything," the Wolfe said.
Rose thought quickly as she took a step away from him and smacked her forehead, "The attic, there's a loose window you can use." The Wolfe nodded, dashed out of the room and bounded up the stairs four at a time as a group of men entered the cabin through the front door. In a sheer panick, Rose fell to her knees and let out a shrill scream as she began to cry again, thus drawing everyone to the bedroom as the Wolfe made his escape into the woods...

The next day was Grandmother's funeral in the woods. Turned out her grandparents aibliiblings (two brothers and a younger sister) were buried in the woods and their graves had been lovingly attended by Grandmother all these years. So, she was laid to rest with the rest of her family as the local priest said the prayers and everyone listened in solem silence as they said their final goodbyes. During this time, Rose was also thanking her lucky stars that no one had thought that she went crazy and killed two people.
It was common knowledge in town that Francis was "sweet" on Rose but she turned down all his advances just the same because she was a "good girl" and he'd continue as if he were a man possesed. Then yesterday Francis killed Grandmother and tried to force himself on Rose. When the group of men came into the house, they escorted her into the kitchen and she was sat down at a table where, wrapped in a blanket, she told her side of the story. When she was done, the few woodcutters there sided with her, saying that Francis was actting oddly for the past couple of days. Walking around with a slight tick and a crazed look in his eyes as he muddled some sort of plot under his breath that involved Rose, Grandmother and a unknown party.
Rose then admitted to the rescue from the three wolves but claimed that a man had saved her. This was followed up by one of the men saying that Francis and a couple men had heard a woman's scream and they ran off to see who it was. It was later that same day when Francis began to act oddly, as if he saw something that made his blood boil. It was obvious then that he had seen the two together and mistook the situation for something else.
When asked how Rose was able to fend off Francis, she admitted that it was the same person who had rescued her before but was scared off when they heard the other people outside. This rose mixed feelings of curiosity, gratefulness and suspicion. Yet these feelings were pushed aside by horror and greif as the news of condition of Grandmother's body spread. It was clear that their first priority was to helping Rose tend to Grandmother's body, which Rose was very grateful for.
With the funeral over with, everyone began to drift away from the grave site untill only Rose and the priest was left.
"Thank you father, for all that you've done," Rose said as she stared at Grandmother's grave.
"It's the least I could do...even with all the gossip surounding her," he said with a frown.
"I know, they talked about her behind our backs. Claiming that she had powers...but even if she did, she only used them to heal all who came to her. Just like that nun she told me about," Rose said.
"Nun?" the pries asked. Rose nodded.
"Yes, she told me of a nun who was blessed by the lord with a healing power but she could never heal herself. When she died, she was declared a Saint because of this gift."
The priest stared at her thoughtfully before a soft smile graced his lips.
"I trust you'll be staying then," he said after a moment's silence.
"Staying?" Rose asked, finally looking up at him in surprise.
"Yes. You're the only one left in town with the healer's gift. You're well loved and I know no one will object this...but in the end, the choice is up to you," the priest said.
"Yes, it is," Rose said and lowered her eyes to the ground out of thought.
"Come, let me walk you home. I hear those three wolves have been sighteain.ain."
"Thank you father," Rose said quietly and followed him through the woods to her cabin as a dark familar figure followed them while it kept his distance so as the priest wouldn't see him.
