Calm Before the Storm

Sorry so short...the next chappie will compensate!!

“Heeelllooo…anybody home?” Diane called as she snapped her fingers in front of my face. I stared blankly at the ring I twisted on my finger. I slept badly the night before: I couldn’t get over Col’s reaction. His savage demands echoed in my mind: “Who is the only man who can control a vicious bitch like you?” I could still feel my hair being twisted in his fist. Me…vicious? As much as I enjoyed the sex, who did he think he was?

“HEY! Are you gonna play or what?” yelled Red from his usual spot at the table. I snapped my head up and stared at Red, wide eyed. I fumbled for my cigarettes and tried to pull my head together.

“Jeez…what’s up with you? George asked from my right. He had the hots for Diane and jumped on any opportunity to partner up with her. “You didn’t even suck this bad when you were learning to play Spades.”

“Go…get…fucked.” I growled through clenched teeth. Diane gasped. She slapped her cards down on the table.

“What crawled up your butt and died?” she demanded. “You have been weird since Wednesday.”

I sighed, “Sorry…I have a lot on my mind. I haven’t been getting much sleep and it makes me edgy.” Diane shook her head.

“Why don’t you go home? Friday is your short day, right?” she reached out and grabbed my hand. I smiled gently and patted the back of hers.

“Yeah…good idea. Maybe I can figure out what I need to do. Later ya’ll…” I spoke softly as I gathered up my things. I walked out to my car and drove home. I let myself in the front door, dropped my bags, and entered the living room. I flopped down on my back and stared at the ceiling fan. I rolled my head to one side and saw dust bunnies under the couch. I was a mess…I was lying on the floor, staring at dust bunnies. I sat up and crawled into my chaise lounger; I sank deep in the cushions. My gaze traveled around the room and came to a stop on my answering machine; there was a message. I stood up and went to the machine; I touched the play button.

“Hey sweets…it’s Ken. I was just calling to find out if you still planned on coming out to the property tomorrow. The paintball rifles and extra ammo will be in the shed. You remember where I hide the key, right? Oh, use whatever you need from the shed as well. Anywho…have a blast and if you ever feel like telling me about it, you got my number. Yak at ya later!” I perked up as the machine rewound the tape. I had forgotten about this plan! I was going to have him exactly where I wanted him. Vicious bitch, huh? He hadn’t seen anything yet!

A couple of hours had passed when the phone rang. I grabbed the kitchen extension so I could keep cooking.

“Hello?”

“Hey baby…missed you on campus today. Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I had a lot on my mind and I couldn’t focus. So, I bailed early, came home and took a nap. It cleared my head right up.” I chirped…whoa, better tone it down a bit. I was starting to sound too Stepford.

“Well, okay. I was worried especially with what happened last night. You seemed shook up pretty bad.”

“Uh huh…I did take me awhile to fall asleep. But, I’m okay now. Do you have plans for tonight?”

“Hang on…let me check,” he said; I could hear him flipping through his date book. “No…looks like I’m free. What do you have in mind?”

“Well, I’m working on some steamed veggies and a couple of thick steaks. Oh yeah, got cookies in the oven, too.”

“So what time do you want me to come over?”

“How about in a half hour?” I asked as I checked the cookies. “One more thing…neutral ground tonight, okay? No slap or tickle.”

“Okey-dokey…see you in a bit.” He hung up on his end and I dropped the kitchen extension. I pulled a couple of plates out of the cabinet. I went to the dining room and set the table for the meal. I went back in the kitchen and puttered about until I heard the doorbell ring.

We sat at the table after we were done eating and enjoyed a refreshing wine that Col brought with him. “Hey, this goes good with the cookies. I’ll have to remember that in the future,” he said as he sat back to rub his full belly. I ran my finger around the rim of my wineglass.

“Speaking of the future, isn’t my turn to choose the date scenario?” I asked coyly.

“Sure, we have six weeks and I can’t be the only who has all the fun,” he replied as he sipped from his glass.

“Good…here’s what you will do for me,” I dipped my finger into the glass and ran it across my lips. “When we’re done with the dishes, you’ll go home and get some sleep. When it’s morning, you meet me back here a seven sharp. I blind fold you and then, the game begins.”

He raised an eyebrow, “I’m intrigued…what we will we be doing?”

I stood up and started to stack the dishes, “I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.”
