~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hey Bro.” A short older teen stood looking down at him. “Wake up! You have classes!”
There was a groan as he waved at her. “Let me sleep Rin.”
“Like hell you’re only doing this to piss off father.”
“Good.” It was a sleepy mumble.
“Why do you keep on doing this?”
“Cause I don’t give a damn if he’s proud of me or not.”
“I wouldn’t say that.”
His eyes opened to look at lighter black eyes. He frowned and sat up, “Fine I’ll go.”
“He’s proud of you Daisuke. Don’t forget that. He only wants you to be ready.”
“For what?”
“I don’t know. I can’t read minds.”
He looked at her, his hands folded behind his head as he fell back down on the grass. The tree swayed above his head from a slight breeze. “Are you sure he’s proud of me?”
“Ask him if you don’t believe me.”
A grin lit his face and he shook his head. “Nah I’ll just wait till he tells me!” He stood and she quickly followed after him. “So what do you plan on doing today after classes.”
“Hang. Whatever happens, happens.” He turned and looked at her as he walked backward. “Hey want to come with us I think Rainer wants to go to the lake?” She was about to answer when he bumped into someone. “Ah… hey!” He turned to meet gray eyes. “S-sorry. I wasn’t watching…”
“You should watch your back more often. You might get killed one day.” He looked at her. She came to his shoulder and carried a two bladed weapon on her back. Those gray eyes looked him up and down. “Numbskull.” She turned and long brown hair swayed as she walked. He gave a pout.
“She definitely nailed you in one word.”
He frowned, “Not you too.”
“She is right.”
“Your evil.”
“Yes I’m so evil.” The teen gave her a look at the sarcastic tone. He hurried after Rin as she started walking faster. “You’re going to be late if you don’t hurry.”
“Yeah yeah.” His arm snaked around her shoulder to give her a quick hug. “I’ll go then. You’re the best sister.” He then ran off with a wave over his shoulder. Rin waved after him and smiled as her younger brother rushed off. Her hand clenched at her arm. Why did it feel like this was the last time he’d be around for a good while?
He blinked as sleep slowly released its hold on him. His eyes looked at sterile white tiles. There was a soft beeping off to his side and something was on his face. It took a few tries to get his arm to respond as it reached up. It brushed against something and he tugged on it. A darker hand grabbed his. “Leave it alone. I swear you try to pull it off in your sleep again…” The voice was cut off.
His head turned and he focused on blurred figure. “Flare…”
“Afternoon.”
“What…?” He blinked his eyes and finally focused on her.
“Doesn’t matter you being alive is a good thing.” He caught the tears that dripped down her face. “I thought I lost my closest friend.” A smiled appeared on his and he sighed.
She pulled the mask down some as he tried to speak. “Ellen…” He rasped, “I saw Ellen.” A tear slid down his cheek and Flare reached over to wipe it away. “She… said not yet…”
“I’ll go see if a nurse is nearby so we can get this off.” He nodded and she left.
After the door closed the tears fell faster. “Fuck…” His mind then moved to something else that had happened. ‘I wonder if that was why you wanted to see to me that day when my life pulled a one eighty on me.’
The door opened and he gave a weak grin as Flare leaned over him. “Hey she said I can take it off.” The mask was pulled off. As he took a few breaths she appeared next to him with a cup. “You thirsty?”
“Yeah…” Flare helped him sit up and held the cup up to his mouth. He snorted, “I can…”
“I’d rather not watch you spill water down your front.”
He frowned and then muttered as she tipped it up for him. The water felt good as it slid down his parched throat. It was pulled away after a few sips. The door swung open and Rainer walked up to the bed. “Hey man how’s it going?”
“I hurt.” He raised a brow at the overly happy Rainer. “What’s going on?”
“A tape came in… unknown person sent it in… It had well Caelan was confessing about that whole… ya know. The news is buzzing throughout the city back home.” He smiled. “You’re a free man. Their working on clearing your name as we speak. Not to mention your older brother wants to ask for your forgiveness.”
“About time.”
“Also your mother wants you to visit her soon after you get. Oh and she wants to meet her grandchildren. Something about no hiding them from her.” Rainer smiled when his friend chuckled only to wince from it. Then he grinned as he quickly said. “The King also wants to know what you want. Basically it’s his way to say sorry for putting you through shit, hell and high waters.”
“I want them to leave me alone. No more fighting.”
“You sure about that.”
“Yeah. I have my family back.” He looked at them and Rainer couldn’t help but grin when he saw how alive those eyes were. That light they lost was now back. Who would have thought a walk with death would change him back. “I’m going to spend as much as I can with them. I owe them that much.”
“Okay are you really sure about that?” His eye twitched at the annoying note in Rainer’s voice.
“Rainer I want to grow old and decrypted in my house in the middle of nowhere and only worry about how I’m going to spend my time with my family.”
The green haired man smiled, “Okay, it been done anyway Tito thought you need a good R and R.”
“Where’s Tito?”
“Talking to the doctor about wing care.”
“My wing!”
Flare shook her head, “Now you ask.” She watched as he tried to look back only to hiss in pain. “Stop moving your lucky you didn’t die from internal injury.”
“But!”
“I snuck a vial of the spring water here to heal it. I didn’t get enough because the whole damn thing was under lock and key. So I only healed your wing to keep questions at bay. Karen knows I told her what I was doing.”
“Thanks Flare.”
“You’re welcome.” She stood. “Well now that you’re awake I have a kit to take care of.”
“Kit?” Both males were looking at her.
“My nephew. Kindle is your younger son’s Guardian. That and your son can summon element creatures at will. You need to help him with that.”
Daisuke sighed as he felt a dull throb behind his eyes, “Okay. That’s going to be hell.”
“He’s also skittish as hell. Oh and he won’t believe us when we say that his name in Zeroun. He will only answer to Zero. That and you need to thank him.”
“Him being skittish isn’t going to help either… Why do I need to thank him?”
Rainer was snickering as he waved at the two while leaving the room. Daisuke weakly flipped him off. Which got him a loud, “Just name the time Daisuke I’ll bring Tito we can have fun!”
The man sputtered and growled at the green haired man. Till Flare snapped her fingers in front of his face. “Zero managed to pull up an earth defense so that you and the wolf didn’t get flat and extra crispy.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah when you see him talk to him. Let him know you care.”
He smiled and patted her hand. “Don’t worry I’ll do my best.”
“I know. You always do and then you get bored.”
“Hey!” There was a cough and they turned to see Karen in the door way. “Hey doc lady!”
“Hello Daisuke. How is everything?”
“Fine… a little sore but fine.” She nodded. He grew quiet and looked at his hands. “Akira is he… okay?”
The two stiffened and his breath caught. Karen walked over to his side as Flare quickly said her goodbyes. She sat down in the chair next to the bed. His shoulders were tense and his jaw was clenched. “He was near the bomb that went off.” He weakly tightened his grip on the sheets. Her hand rested over his. “Calm down you’ll freak out the staff. You monitor is going crazy.”
Onyx eyes focused on her, “You just told me he got blown up!”
“I didn’t say that. Now calm down you’ll exhaust yourself if you started to get worked up.” She cleared her throat and waited till the monitor showed he was relaxed. “I said he was near it. He’s pretty banged up. That and it doesn’t help that he’s got an overprotective wolf growling at anyone who tries to touch him.”
“So he’s alright?”
“He hasn’t woken since we brought him in.”
“How long?”
“It’s been a week so far.”
“I see. Well better than a month. Just hope he wakes before then.”
“So do I, for Zev’s sake. I’ve had to chase him out five times today. When he’s not with Akira he’s with his kids.”
“Hey can I…”
“You’re not leaving this bed till you’re healed enough.”
“Wheelchair.”
She gave him a wicked grin, “So you’re willing to let someone pick you up and put you in a wheelchair.” He frowned. “Thought so.” Karen stood and brushed her pants off. “Well I should get a nurse in here to give you more pain meds.”
“I’m fine I don’t need any. Don’t hurt at all.”
“Yeah I’ve been told about your quirks. Your paler than my late husband and being pale was natural for him.” With that she left the room. He sighed as he turned his head from the door. Fingers tapped on the blanket as he gave another sigh.
“I’m soooooo bored!”
“Well that’s not good.” He turned and his face lit up. “Rainer sent Falcon out to me.” He gave a grin at the dark haired woman. “Well I don’t get a hello from my own child?”
“Mom.”
“So where are they I want to see my grandkids?”
“One is with Flare and the other is still out cold.”
She shoulders dropped. Brown eyes grew soft as she walked over to him. “Well I found some old books of yours. From when you were a kid.” The bag was placed on the table. “I don’t know if they will keep you entertained but I thought you’d like them.” Her slight frame hugged him. “Now when do I get to see the one with Flare?”
He started to laugh only to cringe just as a nurse walked in. “Daisuke I’ve got the pain shot right here.”
“Oh fun.” The man chuckled when his mother swatted at him. “Okay okay I’ll take it.” A grin was on his face as the nurse walked over to his IV. “You’ll be around?”
“Yes.” The brunette woman held a bag up, “I have things to work on. Flare is bound to come back to check on you. I’ll ask about him then.”
“Alright.” The nurse tapped the IV. “You should feel tired in a few minutes. If you feel anything funny tell someone okay?”
“Okay.” He leaned back in the pillows. With some help from his mother he was now laying back. “So how’s the other two.”
“Your brothers are doing fine. Though Adiel is taking it hard he feels bad for believing everyone else. Sable is asking if you want him to send you the things that were meant for your oldest. Something about dropping all contact.”
“Sorry.” He could feel his body relaxing. “I didn’t mean to.”
“We all have a way of getting over the loss of those we love.” She looked at him. “But dropping all contact is not the way.”
“Well I’m doing fine.” He yawned and gave sigh. “Something tells me Rainer kept you informed about me.”
“Stop fighting it and go to sleep I’ll be here when you wake up.”
“Okay.” Daisuke closed his eyes as he felt a hand cover his. “Thanks…”
The door to the room opened and she looked back. Flare smiled at her. “Hello Siv.”
The woman stood up, “Flare he just fell to sleep.”
“Oh so we missed him.”
“We?”
She nodded and glanced over her shoulder. A sigh came from the fox as she reached around the corner. Zero stumbled into the room. He ducked his head. “Zero this is your grandmother.” Black eyes glanced at the older woman from under his fringe.
Siv pulled him into a bone crushing hug that caused the poor male to jump and squeak. Pushing him to arms length she gave a giggle, “He’s got both of their eyes.” The woman lifted his head up and tipped it from side to side. “I don’t see much of Daisuke must take after his mother. I would of loved to meet her but Daisuke is an oddball really.”
Flare smiled a small smile, “You would have loved her. She kept him in line that was for sure.”
“That’s good. Well you have a name right?”
He dropped his head and the woman glanced at Flare. “Don’t worry he’s just really shy.” The fox woman nudged him, “Go on she’s family and about the nicest person in it.”
“Zero.”
“Zero?”
“Yeah.”
Leaning over she cocked an eyebrow, “I thought it was Zeroun.”
The young male snorted as he looked away. “Not my name.” He jumped at the laughter that came from Siv. “Um…”
She patted his shoulder once her laughter was under control, “He’s got the stubborn part down. Don’t worry if you want me to call you Zero I will, but be warned some will be stubborn and call you by that name.”
“But…” Her hand was up to stop him.
“Just get used to it. You can call me Siv okay.” He nodded and looked around. His eyes rested on the sleeping form. Siv turned to look at Daisuke, “I worried about him when I didn’t hear from him.” She looped her arm around Zero’s causing the boy to jump. “There there. Whatever happened to you your safe now. Daisuke would raise hell if anyone tried to hurt his family. But from the looks of it his ass got handed to him.” She looked at the man sleeping. Then she sat Zero on the chair. “Sit here and I’ll sit over there.”
He turned to look back at Flare. She just shrugged and waved as she walked out. Turning back he swallowed. His hands picked at his pants. They were new. Flare had taken him out to get clean clothes seeing as he had only a shirt jacket and jeans. His shoes well they were still the same he refused to give those up.
His mind went back to Akira. His older brother. A smile appeared on his face at the thought. He had found his family. Siv hid a smile behind the book she was reading. There it was, that was a smile she was familiar with.
Zev sat in the chair watching the window. A soft sound drew his attention. Looking over he found one of the three babies moving around. He scooted the chair over and reached into the small crib. A small hand grabbed his finger. A smile slipped onto his face and he jump at the cough behind him. He turned to see Dawn. “How is he?”
“Still out. Karen said he wore himself out with the mental abilities. He’s just sleeping it off.”
“Keir told us what happened.”
His shoulders stiffened and she sighed. “Well…” That small hand moved. He glanced at the small babe and pulled his hand away when he finally fell to sleep. “I don’t know what to say.”
“I’ve talked to your father. It’s not safe in this city for your siblings. We’re going to move back. Come with us.”
“If Akira wants to go I’ll go.”
“Okay talk to him about it.” She walked over and hugged him. “He’ll wake up. Don’t worry so much.” He pressed his face against her shoulder. Dawn pulled a chair closer with her foot and sat in it. One hand ran over his head as his body shook. “Shhhh everything will be okay.” His hands gripped at his pants as he fought to keep quiet.
A few minutes past when she noticed that her son had grown quiet. She smiled a sad smile when she noticed he was asleep. “Everything will be fine.” The older woman shifted his body and her chair so that he could rest his head on her shoulder. A hand rested on her other shoulder.
Glancing back she found Caden looking at her. He nodded toward Zev, “Fell asleep. He’ll be fine.”
“I can get a nurse to set up a cot back in Akira’s room?”
She smiled, “Will you? He needs to get a good sleep. I’m worried he’ll wear himself out before Akira wakes up then we’ll have two stubborn boys in the hospital.”
“Yeah.” He leaned over to kiss her on the forehead. “I’ll be right back to get him.” Caden stopped and snagged another chair. Walking over he sat it down and looked at her. “Might as well make him comfortable now just in case it takes a while.” He shifted Zev’s legs over causing the black wolf to murmur.
“Shhhh.” Dawn moved his head to her lap. “Just rest you need it.”
“But…” She started to run her hand over his head, “Aki…ra…” Blue eyes drifted close again and he was back to sleeping.
The blond man paused long enough to look at the three babies and turned to Dawn. “I’ll go now.”
“Okay.” He stopped and looked back at her.
“Love you.”
“Love you too.” Her hand was still running through Zev’s hair. “It’s just as long as Keir’s now. If it wasn’t for your skin and body mass you two would be hard to tell apart right now.”
A couple of minutes passed and there was a knock on the door frame. “Mom.”
“Yes Keir.”
“How is he?”
“Asleep finally.” He walked over to her. She looked up to see Rune next to him. The small male gave a half smile. “You saw him?”
Rune gave a meek nod. His face scrunched up as he tried not to cry. Keir sat a hand on his beanie covered head and he looked up at him. “We just came from there. Father said he’s going to see about a cot in the same room.”
“Yeah my poor pup here has worn himself thin he need to sleep.” The raven haired woman looked at Rune. “Do your friends know?”
“I’m keeping them up to date whenever they call. Which is about every hour now.”
“It was thirty minutes before.”
Dawn gave a small smile at what Keir said. She reached out and grasped Rune’s small hands in her hand, “He’ll wake up and he’ll probably fight to get out of this place as soon as he does.”
Rune gave a weak laugh as he said, “Yeah that sounds about right.”
The boy sat up as the door opened. His eyes going wide as he quickly crawled under the bed. “Akira?” A small brown head appeared from under the bed. He scrambled to his feet and ran to the woman. “Hey how are you?” He shook his head. She knelt and raised his head up. “Be strong Akira. That man can NOT control you. You have a will unlike most.” Her fingers brushed messy bangs out of his face. “Let say you and me play a game with your brother?”
His face split into a smile, “Yeah.” The soft voice cracked as he nodded his head.
“When he gets here we’ll play hide-and-go-seek. We have to hide from him till daddy can find us okay?” He nodded. “But we’ll have to run from here first.”
His face fell and paled.
“He can’t get us as long as we run.” There was a knock on the door. It opened and Dr. Eron looked in. “Ready?”
“I can’t find the boy.”
“What?”
“He’s missing. I can’t find him.” She walked up to him. “You two should leave. Once I can I’ll follow after you two.”
“I can’t leave one behind. Daisuke doesn’t know.”
Akira looked between the two. A bag was pushed into the woman’s arms. “Rin you need to tell him. Once you find him. Tell him. Take Akira and go find him.” He gently brushed her hair from her face. “Please. Take the boy and run.”
“But…”
“I’ll watch over him till we can run also.”
“O-okay.” She grabbed Akira’s hand. “Come on Akira. We’re leaving now.”
As they ran down the hall he could hear a soft, “Good luck.”
The blizzard howled as they ran. “After them.” She scooped the boy into her arms and ran. The wolf boundary was close she had to get to it. Small arms clung to her form as she jumped up into a tree. She jumped from branch to branch. The cloak she had snagged out of an old barn was wrapped around the small boy. Her own jacket, though thin, was wrapped around the boy under the cloak. As she ran she thought she heard a howl only to brush it off as the wind.
Rin looked back and sighed when she found their pursuers gone. As she turned back around she came face to face with a large white wolf. She stepped back fear painted across her face. Then the wolf reached behind to pull out a folded thick blanket. It was draped around her shoulders. Stay warm also. A small smile slipped on to Rin’s face.
“Thank you. I owe you one.”
So long as the boy lives you owe me nothing.
“He will I’ll give my life to keep him warm and alive. He is the only thing keeping my brother alive.”
Golden eyes met gray ones. That head lowered and then the wolf turned. It looked back then motioned to the right. That way. Half a day by air you’ll see a city. The wind kicked up causing the snow to whipping around. She turned to the right and quickly moved. Once she found a stump to rest on she sat the boy on it.
“Okay I’m going to trade you the blanket for the cloak.” He unwrapped the cloak and handed it to her. Once she had it on she wrapped the blanket around him. “Who does that feel? Is it better?”
He nodded and she grabbed his hand as they walked slowly through the snow. Once the winds died down she would fly to the city. For now they would walk. His body stayed close to hers. After a while he could feel her hand grow cold. He looked up at her. Rin looked down and saw Akira looking at her. She smiled. “Just wait once we get there will find your uncle then we’ll get some hot soup to warm our bones. Sound fun?”
A smile appeared on his face and he cover her cold hand with his other. The winds kicked up more snow almost blinding them as they walked. Cold was biting against his legs as the snow melted and soaked through his pant legs. “Tomorrow you’ll be six.” He looked up. “Happy birthday Akira.” She smiled at him.
Rin tripped on the branch and gave a soft laugh. Akira watched as she sat down on the other side of a tree. The wind wasn’t as strong here. He walked over. She smiled and patted her lap. “Come here Akira let’s take a rest.” He looked over his shoulder to see the lights shining in the distance.
She laughed. “Don’t worry we’re fine here. Let’s just rest.” So he climbed into her lap. He looked at her when he felt how cold she was. They were traveling in the snow for a week straight. The two had stopped the other day brief enough to get sleep and then they were moving again. “Hey Akira. Close your eyes.”
He did. Hands covered his eyes. There was a few quiet words and he felt his body slump back. His body grew tired. When his eyes slid closed everything went blank. Then a soft whisper. “Be strong, Akira. May there be light on your darkest nights.” His eyes slid open long enough to see lights and then he closed them.
Akira’s eye opened and he gasped for air. A single gray eye stared at the ceiling. He could feel something on his face and panicked. His arm tried to move only it didn’t. Every nerve in his body was screaming to move. Where was his dad? Where was Zev? ‘Zev!’ He tried to move his head and gave a choked aggravated sound. Why couldn’t he fucking move!?
Then he let his body relax. When he heard nothing he freaked again. That’s when he heard soft beeping. The room door opened and there was a shuffling sound. “Oh please! Every time I turn my back you start making the monitor pick up. Then he felt his fingers. Something was clamped on the finger. He moved it. Tap. “What…?” The confusion was clear. He tapped again. Tap. Tap. Tap.
A hand covered his hand and his twitched his hand. A head appeared in his vision. “Okay stay awake a little longer I’m going to get Karen!” The nurse was gone.
Karen? A sigh of relief came from him followed by a wince. Okay that had hurt! A voice was soon heard. He wanted to turn his head but nothing moved. Why couldn’t he move his head!?
“Akira?” Karen appeared in his vision. “Thank you, God! Okay I’m going to tell you what has been going on.” She disappeared and the sound of something scrapping across the floor could be heard. “Okay. Well let’s start off with you. You have a broken leg.” Great! “You got a good cut over your eye…” What? “Its deep enough to scar but it won’t change your eye sight.” He gave a sigh and she gave a soft laugh. “Yes, you can relax. Zev will be happy to see you’re awake. But he’s currently out cold off to your right.” His head finally turned. He winced as there was a faint pop. How long was he laying for. His mind came to a halt when he saw Zev.
The wolf was curled up asleep on his side facing him.
“You’ve been out for a week and a half. A lot better from the month.” His head turned towards her. “I see your movement is coming back. You should be paralyzed with the injuries to your back. Maybe that healing gift of yours is working.” He tried to look at the thing on his face. “You’ve got a breathing mask on. Want me to move it so you can try to drink something?” Akira finally realized how parched his mouth was. It felt like cotton was stuffed in it. He head gave a slight nod. “Okay.” She stood and helped him sit up. Pillows were sat behind him.
Karen walked around the bed and picked a cup up. She poured water into it from a pitcher. Her hand pulled the mask down. A cup was soon placed to his mouth and he drank. “Easy I don’t want to clean what comes back up.” After a few deep drinks he gave a sigh and looked over at Zev. “How are your mental abilities?” He swallowed.
When he spoke it was cracked and winded with a slight rasp. “Si…lent.”
She frowned, “It should be back by now.”
“Wh..at?”
“Easy Akira. Don’t worry you might just be more exhausted then we first thought. You practically contained a hundred yard explosion. Plus from what Zev explained who wouldn’t be. Zev also told Daisuke what had happen. He’s just as shocked that you didn’t kill yourself from over doing it.”
“He’s…?”
“Bored out of his mind but doing well.”
“Good… I thought…” A small smile appeared on his face. Then he grew quiet as his hands cover his stomach.
A hand covered his. “They are doing fine. Fully grown and quite healthy. The larger one is loud as hell when hungry though.” He chuckled and then winced. “Woops no laughing a couple of your ribs are cracked slightly.”
“Damn…” He turned his head, “When can I see them?” Karen smiled at the strength that was returning to his voice but it was still soft.
“How about I bring them to you?”
“Thanks.” There was a soft mutter and they looked over to see Zev sitting up. “Zev!” That head jerked towards him. He cursed as he held his neck.
“Damn it! Neck cramp.” He looked at Akira and gave a big grin. “I’m glad you’re awake.” Zev stood as walked forward Karen stepped back. She slipped out of the room to give them some time alone. His fingers touched the bandaged side of his face. Part of his head was wrapped up also leaving hair to stick up and out of what wasn’t covered. A soft brush of lips on his forehand had him smiling.
There were more bandages on his arms covering burns and cuts. His lower abdomen was covered by fresh bandages. Akira’s eyes landed on his leg. It was in a thick cast. “Great.”
He looked at the leg and chuckled. “Don’t worry. With how you’re healing you’ll be running again.” A hand touched his side. Blue eyes looked down at Akira. Leaning over he kissed Akira. It was slow and drawn out. The wolf reached up to gently cup Akira’s face. Pulling away he rubbed his thumb over the bare right cheek. “I was so scared when you fell down into that pit.”
A hand touched his elbow. “I… not now we’ll talk later.”
Zev kissed him and rested his forehead against Akira’s. “Whatever you want.”
“Thanks.”
There was a soft sound of someone clearing their throat. Akira and Zev looked over at the door. A large grin appeared on Zev’s face. Karen was standing with another nurse. Three babies with them. Turning back to Akira he muttered, “It’s a good thing you’re awake. They’ve been pushing me to name them but I figured you’d want to be awake.” He smirked and nodded. “Good.” Walking over he took the two larger ones while the nurse held out the smaller one to Akira.
“Want to try hold him? He’s not that heavy.”
“Okay.” She placed him in his arms with her hands underneath them.
The dark haired woman spoke up. “All three of them are healthy and can leave soon. I’m still shocked at how fast they grew for being two months preemie.” She stepped out of the way so the nurse could leave.
“There part wolf remember.”
“Even for a werewolf pup.”
“Oh.” Zev looked at her. Then at the babies three altogether. “Names. I’m kind of getting tired of calling them baby one, two and three.”
Akira winced again as he tried not to laugh. “Alright Zev. Which one is the first?” He motion to the larger one with wolf ears and tail by moving the babe slightly. “Second.” He nodded to the other one tucked into his arm. Gray eye looked down at the smaller one in his arm. “Last.” Two mismatched gray toned eyes looked up at him at that moment.
Something just clicked into place and he smiled. “So what are we going to call them.”
“Kieren.”
Karen was next to them held a pad of paper in her hand with a pen, “Spell for me.”
“K-i-e-r-e-n.”
“So who’s last name will they be taking.” The brunette glanced at Zev.
“I think they should take on Zev’s last name.”
Zev looked at him, “You sure?”
“Yeah. They’ll be safer that way.” Both grew quiet as they thought back to what had been said all those days ago.
“Okay.” She quickly scratched down Zev’s last name. “Middle name.”
“None.” Just then the largest of the three started screaming. The black wolf started as he relaxed some. He sighed, “Oi, you’re a rowdy one.” He stopped and looked at Akira.
“Zev…” That don’t even think about it look was hard to pull off with half your face covered. “Zev!”
“Oh come on Akira it fits. He’s the loudest of them all.” He sighed as Zev looked at him with an egger look. “A-kira!”
“Fine okay.”
Karen looked at the two, “And the name is?”
“Rowdy.”
“Okay Rowdy Thomas it is.” She smiled at the sight of Zev trying to quiet the loud baby. “Need a hand?”
“I got it Karen.” Just then the other one gave a shout. “Okay now I don’t. Help.”
A smile appeared on Akira’s face as Karen picked up the still unnamed child. “Well what shall we can this one?”
“Ev.”
The wolf raised an eyebrow, the one with the ring in it, when Akira quickly gave a name. He saw the shrug and sighed. “Okay.” A smirk was on Akira’s face. “I get to name the next one.”
“If there is a next one.”
He grumbled as Karen gave a laugh. “Okay I’m going to go put their names on the papers. Here you go Zev.” She passed the now dubbed Ev to Zev who was still trying to get Rowdy to quiet down. Just as she left three baby beds were rolled into the room. A nurse walked over to Akira.
“Okay time from you pain meds.” The brunette sighed. “Here let me lay him down and then we’ll get you settled back so you’ll have a comfortable sleep.” After the medicine was administered Akira looked at Zev from the laid back position. “You’ll be out for the rest of the day.”
He nodded and watched as the nurse left. Zev was still holding onto Rowdy who finally fell asleep. Turning he laid the babe in the plastic crib. “Zev…” He turned to find Akira trying to fight falling asleep. His hand motioned him over.
“What is it?”
He murmured something and Zev leaned closer. Right before he succumbed to the pain meds he muttered out a soft. “Love you too.” The wolf looked at the sleeping brunette. He chuckled and kissed him.
“I know you do.” The chair was pulled over as he sat down. With Akira’s hand in his he watched as the three now named babes slept. He smiled and sighed as he held onto Akira’s hand tighter. “Everything will be alright. I hope.”
Akira gave a muttered curse as he tried to pick up the item that was dropped. Being on crutches sucked major ass. He was going to strangle who ever came up with the stupid idea. There was a sound at the door. “I’m going to get this without help Dawn.” A month out of the hospital and he finally got back most of his psychic abilities. The down side was he had to relearn how to move objects with his mind.
After what had happened Levana had explained to him one day that everything that was sealed was opened. He just had to relearn everything from scratch. That really pissed him off. He concentrated on the item at his feet. It gave a twitch and dropped. His hung head and he gave a muttered curse.
“I heard you’re going to get the cast removed in three weeks.” She knelt and handed the soft baby book to him. “Are you and Zev going to be living with us?” He looked at her. With the book in hand he gave it back to Rowdy who just sat up to resume chewing on it. The three of them were sitting in the play pen together like always when Rowdy decided to chuck the toy out of the pen and then precede to scream for his lost toy.
“I don’t know.” He sat down and stretched out his still sore leg. “Ugh I want to get this damn thing off.”
He looked over at the sounds Ev was starting to make. It sounded like he was trying to talk. A smile appeared on his face and Dawn gave a soft laugh. “Okay. Zev said he’s only going to do what you ask for.”
The brunette sighed, “Where is he?”
“I saw him and Lobo out running in the woods.”
“Okay.” A soft sound was heard from the pen and they looked over to see Kieren reaching for the top of the pen. He never made it for Ev fell back and knocked into him. Both tumbled down. Akira was about to get up when he heard Ev cry out from bonking his head but then he saw Daisuke standing in the door way.
“I’ll get him.” The older brunette walked over and picked the child up. “Hey there.” The tears stopped right after that. Storm gray eyes slid closed. “Hey.” Akira opened his eyes to find his dad looking at him. Concern was all over his face, “Why don’t you go get some sleep?”
“I’m fine.” His dad lifted him up with one hand and he started protesting when Zev walked in. “Hey I’m fine I don’t need any sleep.”
Dawn snagged Zev’s arm with her arms, “Take him to go lay down he’s got bags under his eyes.”
The wolf smiled and nodded. “Don’t worry I will I was going to when I got here.” She smiled and patted him on the arm. “Akira.”
“No way, I’m not lying down.” He gave a shout when Zev picked him up. The brunette tugged on the chin length black hair. “Put me down!!!!”
“Nope.”
“Stupid wolf I don’t need to sleep.”
“Then let’s go relax!”
They all stopped at the cry and then Dawn gave an excited shout. “Zev look at Rowdy!” The two turned to find the small wolf babe had fallen onto his back. A grin was on his face as gray eyes sparked with laughter. Then the babe gave a weak yipping howl. Zev grinned as he sat Akira back down.
He crouched down and gave a soft yip. The wolf babe rolled over and looked at Zev. Crawling over his hands pushed against the mesh wall. A giggle escaped the boy as one hand found his mouth where he started to chew on it. He dropped back onto his butt as the other hand reached up to tug at one of the two ears on his head. The boy yawned showing off a sharp canine. “Mom we’re going to need those toys. He’s getting his teeth.”
“Okay.” He stood and pet Rowdy on the head. “You two head off we’ll get them down for a nap.”
Akira gave a mutter but stood with his crutch. The slim male hobbled out with Zev following. Daisuke gave a sigh as they left. “Damn kid.” He looked at Dawn. “So what bring you here?”
“I was just going to find out when those two were going to leave this house. It can’t be long now. The city has gotten worse since the bombings.” She looked worried as she watched the other two in the play pen.
“Akira will move them when he knows it’s not safe. Just got to trust him.” He lifted Ev in the air making him laugh. “You like being up high don’t you!” Then he chuckled when the child yawned. Walking over he laid him down next to the sleeping Rowdy. Kieren was watching him with mismatched blue and gray toned eyes. “I suppose you don’t want to sleep yet do you?”
His hand reached out to touch Daisuke’s hand. A smile appeared on the man face. Then he flopped over to watch as Daisuke stood. “I guess I’ll be staying for a while longer.” Dawn smiled and was about to say something when Daisuke waved at her. “Go on you have babies of your own. I haven’t done this in a while but I’m not that rusty.”
She sighed, “Okay. Tell them I said bye.”
“I will.” He listened to her walk away. When he looked at the three he chuckled at the sight. Kieren was sandwiched between the two older ones. “When did you get there?” He walked over to sit down. As he relaxed he pulled a book out of the bag at his feet. “Well this is familiar.” He looked up at the ceiling. “Don’t you think so,” A grin pulled at his face as he felt a welcomed warmth fill him, “Ellen?”
