Dangerous

Ch. 6 Dangerous

Amber walked down the dark empty sidewalk. The street lamps giving off an orange yellow glow that dimly lit her path. The city lights blocked out any star light that might have been out. A cool wind blew past her, making her cross her hands across her chest to warm up, her brown hair blowing behind her dancing delicately.

She needed the walk, the fresh air, she took in a deep breath trying to calm her nerves. It wasn’t difficult living with Jessica or the other vampires, it was Dunkin that was causing her such stress. His temper, his unexpected advances, and his eyes, they weren’t the norm for her. Normally she could pass by unnoticed, but now it was as if Dunkin had seen her; a light in the darkness and he was drawn to her flame.

She stopped as she felt a presence behind her. Turning around she found the man, or rather monster, she had been thinking of. “Go away Dunkin.” She warned as she continued her walk.

“Jessica told me to keep an eye on you.” He said as if it were the only reason that he was trailing her.

“I told her I could take care of myself.” She whispered to herself. She stopped and turned around, “Then make yourself invisible, don’t be so obvious.” She scowled before continuing her walk.

Trying to get him out of her thoughts, Amber decided to take a different route that would lead her back to Jessica’s mansion. It was just a small detour, through a dark alley way. If Amber hadn’t been so caught up in her emotions, maybe then she would have told her self to turn back…

She felt a presence again and turned around, “Dunkin I told…you…”
Amber stopped her sentence as she realized it wasn’t Dunkin. No it was worse: Three dark figures stood, blocking her from the light of the street and her immediate exit.

“Well, what is a human doing out a night?” One asked in a tone that a parent might give to a child.

“Maybe she has a death wish.” One whispered cynically.

Before she could even blink, the third vampire grabbed her by the neck and threw her against one of the brick walls. The impact caused the air from her lungs to escape with a quick ‘oomph’ and the hand on her neck began to grip her tightly. Instantly, Amber’s hands went up to that strong hand, and she tried her best; clawing and yanking to get it off of her throat.

She needed air.

She closed her eyes in pain and she felt one of the other vampires take her hand, then the next…did they think that they could all three feed off of her?!

Teeth nipped at her wrists as her question was answered. Though these vampires weren’t biting just yet, they were close. Where was Dunkin? Air, she needed air, badly. Her vision was fading, concentrate, fire…everywhere. White, blue, red, orange…FIRE!

The vampires shrieked and the hands released including the one on her throat. Amber gasped desperately for air, making her dizzy from hyperventilation. She fell to her knees, her hands automatically going out to catch herself. The world was spinning…

She heard more yelling and turned her gaze to the side to see the three vampires running off, but one advanced forward.

“D-Dunkin…” Amber called out to him weakly as he kneeled down next to her.

She couldn’t help but let out a whimper as he picked her up and held her in his arms like a bride. Her head laying perfectly in the crook of his neck. She could feel how tense he was as he strode powerfully towards the mansion. She looked down at her hands, there was blood from the fall.

“I’m sorry.” She whispered. She wasn’t sure why she was sorry exactly, maybe because she was a nuisance, or because she knew that she was about to black out.

Her world was spinning, fading to white, when Dunkin kicked opened the mansions door. Amber heard Jess call out to her, but she was already blacking out by then.
