Chapter Six:
Naru stuck his head out and surveyed the room for any sign of his boss. He let out the breath that he had been holding in since he came back from lunch. Seeing that his boss was nowhere in sight, he went to his desk quietly and continued his work. Ryuu swung his office door open and Naru looked up in surprise. He jumped a bit in his seat, and a nervous smile came to his face as he scratched his head.
“Boss?” said Naru, as he fidgeted in his seat.
“You, tomorrow, out shopping with me! Don't even try to get out of it. You ruined my expensive suit, so you are going to pay for my new one.” Ryuu wasn't asking, he was ordering Naru to accompany him . No was not an option, and Naru knew that he was doomed to spend his day off with his boss. He put his head down on his desk the moment his boss disappeared back inside his office. He was so not looking forward to getting out of bed tomorrow.
Ryuu relaxed in his chair after he finished reading and signing the documents that Naru had left for him before his lunch break with his brother Rei. The phone beside him rang and he picked it up and answered it with a lazy hello.
“It’s done Ryuu. She is with Risa now. It took longer than we thought, but finally we convince her that it is best for her brother’s safety that she leave him,” his uncle Kousuki informed him from his end of the line.
“Thank you. I really appreciate your help in this.”
“No problem Ryuu. I will see you tonight when Rei and I get back from our dinner date,” said Kousuki.
Ryuu chuckled and hung up. He then leaned back against his chair and played with the pen in his hand as he thought of a good way to get back at Naru.
The phone on his desk rang at exactly five o'clock. Naru picked it up and answered it, thinking that it was just someone calling to book an appointment.
“Hello,” he answered as his finger punched in important dates on the computer.
The person on the other line began to sing, “I love you, I need you,” repeatedly like a little child.
“Who is this?” Naru asked calmly while his mind tried to figure out what the hell the person on the other line wanted. When they didn't answer him, he sighed. “Look whoever you are, I am very busy right now. I don't have time to play such childish games with you,” said Naru.
The voice on the other end of the line let out a laugh. “You know who I am, I have been watching you ever since the day I saw you.”
Naru froze for a moment in shock, then as soon as he recovered, he asked the man what he wanted. The man let out another laugh.
“I have something that I want you to hear,” said the voice on the other end. Naru heard a click and the sound of a woman screaming. The phone fell from his hand just as his boss’s door swung open.
Seeing the terrified look on Naru’s face, Ryuu immediately went over to him. “What’s wrong?” he asked. “Tell me Naru, what is wrong?” He demanded that Naru tell him. Naru just pointed to the phone.
Ryuu picked up the phone. He didn't even have to say a word, the person on the other end began.
“I hide and you seek,” the voice said over the sound of the woman’s screams. “You had better hurry, before I get to him,” the voice added before he hung up at his end.
“We need to call the police!” Naru voiced out loud.
“There is no need, it’s just a prank call,” Ryuu lied with a straight face in a stern voice.
“But what if it isn't a prank call Boss?” remarked Naru, still thinking that it was best to let the cops know about the call.
Ryuu gripped both of Naru’s arms roughly. “No! If you dare to call the police I will have you fired and make sure that you won't ever get a job anywhere! Understand?” Ryuu hissed.
“What ever you say Boss. Now let go, you are hurting me,” Naru gritted out. Of course he had no intention of keeping quiet.
“Sorry,” Ryuu apologized softly and let go of Naru’s arms. He took one last look at Naru, as if he was deciding what he should do with the man before him, then he disappeared into his office.
Naru sat back down in his chair and let out a short sigh. He then went back to work. When work was over, Naru gathered his things and left. As he stepped out of the tall building, rain began to pour down. He stood in front of the door with disbelief. Just his luck, why out of all the days did it decide to rain on the day he didn't have a car? He should have brought an umbrella with him, he thought as he stared at the pouring rain.
Ryuu came up and took Naru by the arm gently this time. “Come on you’re riding with me again today,” he said as he half dragged Naru towards his car.
“There's no need, I can walk home,” said Naru as he removed his arms from Ryuu’s grasp when they got to the car.
Ryuu leaned forward and Naru backed away. His back came into contact with Ryuu’s car. Ryuu placed both his hands on his car trapping Naru between his arms as he moved closer in, his face just inches away from Naru’s.
“You're riding with me and that's an order.” whispered Ryuu.
“You... you can't order me after working hours!” uttered Naru. His heart began pounding at a rapid speed as he said this.
“Yes I can. I just extended your working hours,” replied Ryuu with an arrogant smirk before he opened the car door and shoved Naru inside.
“You can't do that!” retorted Naru as he was shoved into the passenger side. He got halfway off the seat, intending to get out of the car, but Ryuu stopped him by blocking his way out, and pushing him back down onto the passenger’s seat.
“I don't think so Naru,” said Ryuu.
“You can't just force some one like this,” snapped Naru angrily.
“Yes I can Naru, and don't even think about escaping because if you dare to try such a thing I will kiss you. Do you understand?” warned Ryuu.
Naru’s hands instantly went to cover his mouth. Ryuu laughed at Naru’s reaction to his threat. So cute, he thought before shutting the passenger door and making his way to the driver’s side. He got in and leaned over to Naru’s side. He took the seat belt and slid it into place for Naru, then he did the same for himself. He smirked at the wide eyed man beside him before starting the car and driving out of the parking lot.
Slowly Naru began to relax. He turned his head to the side and stared out the car window, “Do you always have to get things your way?” he commented.
“Yes,” answered Ryuu without taking his eyes off the road.
Naru turned to face Ryuu when he noticed that Ryuu was going the wrong way. This wasn't the way to his apartment. “Boss I think that you're going the wrong way, my apartment is that way,” he said as he pointed out the way that they should be going.
“No we aren’t, tonight you're staying with me. I can't have you not show up for our little appointment tomorrow,” said Ryuu as he made a left turn.
“You've got to be kidding me! I want to go home. Take me home at once you arrogant bastard!” Naru yelled, loud enough for Ryuu to stop the car.
“For the last time Naru, you are not going home tonight. You're staying with me until I deem it safe for you to return. Don't make me repeat myself again because I hate repeating the same things over and over!” With that said, Ryuu stepped on the pedal and drove on.
Naru knew that it was useless to argue with his boss, and what was with him saying that it was not safe for him to return home? He wondered about that bit of information before he grunted and turned his head to the side, his head now filled with many ways to kill his boss. There was no way that he was going to let his boss, boss him around.
Ryuu parked his car and opened his door to get out. Naru did the same, his eyes filled with awe at the sight of the big mansion before him. His boss really was loaded with money to be able to live in a beautiful mansion like this, he thought as he closed the car door.
“Come on,” Ryuu said as he waved Naru to follow him inside. With a deep breath in and out, Naru slowly dragged himself inside after his boss. The door to the mansion opened and he immediately recognized his old boss from the company.
“Good evening Master, and good evening to you too Naru,” said his ex-boss with a warm smile.
Naru just let out a nervous smile, not knowing what to say. To put it another way, he just didn't know what to call the man since he had never bothered to learn his ex-boss’s name.
“Kohei, tell cook to make dinner for two. Naru will be staying here for the night,” ordered Ryuu, before motioning for Naru to follow him up the stairs. Reluctantly Naru followed his boss up the stairs and was shown to a room with expensive furniture.
“This will be your room for the night. If you need anything during the night, just give me a knock. My room is across from yours. With that said, Ryuu left Naru alone in the big room. Naru went over to the bed and sat down. He then fished out his cell phone and called home. When no one picked up, he dialed his sister’s cell phone. It rang five times before his sister answered his call with a cheerful voice. He could here the sound of another female on his sister’s end of the call.
“Naru, what’s up?” said Miku.
“Where are you Miku? I called home and you’re not there,” said Naru with concern in his voice.
Miku became silent for a long while before answering her brother. “Naru I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you this. I moved out this morning,” said Miku.
“What? Why? And where are you living now Miku?” Naru asked everything at once. His voice filled with shock at what he just heard.
“I'm sorry Naru, I really am. I thought that it was about time that I moved out and lived on my own. If you love me Naru, please understand where I'm coming from.”
Naru sighed, he felt a headache coming on. “Alright if you put it that way, but promise me that you will call me at least once a week to let me know how you’re faring on your own. Or better yet, let’s meet once a week that way I....”
“Naru I promise to call you once a week,” Miku interrupted her brother. “Good night Naru, and take care of yourself. You have been having a lot of headaches these past month,” Miku added before ending the call.
Naru tossed the phone onto the bed and lay down on it. A strong and powerful headache hit him at full force two minutes later. The pain was far stronger than the one he had before. It was so strong, that he ended up rolling from left to right with both his hands on his temple, crying out loud in pain. His cry of pain was so loud that Ryuu came racing inside.
Ryuu raced towards Naru just as Naru’s cry of pain subsided and was replaced by silence. Naru had passed out from the strong pain. Not knowing what else to do, Ryuu picked Naru up and carried him downstairs, making his way to his car.
Miku rushed into the hospital after getting a call from Ryuu about her brother. "Is he alright?" She asked as soon as she found her brother’s boss.
“I don't know, they haven't told me anything yet,” answered Ryuu. Miku sat down on the waiting chair beside Ryuu. She prayed with all her heart that nothing bad would happen to her brother. She had wanted to rush here as soon as she got the call, but Risa stopped her saying that they needed to perform something first before she could go out in the open without raising suspicion from others. Miku shut her eyes and waited for the doctor to return with news about her brother. After waiting for a very long time, the doctor came out to meet with Ryuu and Miku. “What’s wrong with my brother?” Miku asked immediately.
“I'm sorry to have to tell you, your brother has brain cancer.”
