A/N: Thank you guys for reading and reviewing, it’s so rewarding to see that I’m doing a good job and you really enjoy this story.
Redd: I’m glad you caught onto the death at the end of chapter 4, and I was actually thinking of making a little twist as a scare but I felt that him losing the two of them would be a better fit for the story line and his character. And yes, I love Evanescence. I’m a fan of rock and the nice rush it gives me but at the same time Amy’s voice is just so perfect and calming. Tourniquet is undeniably my favorite song.
Shayne: Handcuffs? Not Nate, but there will be a nice sex scene coming up soon.

Chapter 6: You are my reason for being

Kate’s POV:
He was humming a soft tune, something slow and sad. It was nice though, like something out of an old romance movie but it this feeling of hope to it. It seems so familiar, but I couldn’t put my finger…..
“It’s Mozart.” He said softly, “the original Lacrymosa, from the Requiem in D minor.”
So he’s a ……..
“Not a psychic, just very good at anticipating people’s thoughts. Your heart rate slowed and your muscles loosened up a little bit. That’s a sign of comfort and familiarity.”
I smiled at him and shook my head, and for the first time he met my gaze and returned my smile. His eyes showed a glimmer of hope and in that exact moment, I broke down and started to cry. He leaned in and kissed me on the forehead and pulled me closer.
“Don’t cry. I’m ok Kate, I promise.” His tenor voice resonating throughout my body and each word made my heart bounce like it was on a string and he was playing yo-yo.
“I’m……s-s-s-so…sor-ry.” I choked out. “I thought I had lost you.” I said managing to put myself together. He looked so calm now it was amazing. All the pain in his eyes was gone and those beautiful frost grey eyes were shining like diamonds.
He just smiled at me, “I’m not going anywhere. I know you love me and it gives me reason to go on now. Yeah it still hurts but…”
“WAIT A MINUTE?!?!?!” I shrieked. My heart was absolutely racing. He knew? How on earth did he…..
“I’m psychic, remember?” He laughed and I swear my face went bright red.
“How on earth could you possibly have known?” I asked trying not to explode. “And would you please stop reading my mind? It’s rude to intrude like that ya know?” I nudged his leg only to have the shooting pain go rocketing through my hand again. I winced and before I knew it I was on my feet in his arms.
“Lemme take care of that. A little ice will keep the swelling down and I can make you a splint to keep it stable. Give me a second.” He said as he sat me in the recliner. I still couldn’t understand how on Earth he knew.
“You followed me outside. I had my…….. Oops. Sorry, I forgot. No more mind reading.” We both laughed and as he came back with two packs of ice, some plastic sheet, a knife and some athletic tape. “We’ll get you a real one on Monday when the Pharmacy opens.” He said placing everything on the table next to me. I was about to say something and surprisingly he waited this time. But he had that look like, ‘I know what you’re about to ask but I’m just humoring you right now. But please, ask anyway.’
“Jerk.” I said and he laughed. Caught him, a first on my end. “Anyway, you were saying?”
“I was saying that you followed me out. I saw the way you had been looking at me all night. It wasn’t the typical, he’s hot and rich and like, oh my God I wanna fuck him, look.” He did this perfect city girl voice and we shared a nice laugh. Not only was he charismatic but he had a great sense of humor. “Actually I’ve been watching you watch me for a while now and I knew that you had feelings for me. Strong feelings. I’m very perceptive and I pick up on things like this pretty quickly. I just wasn’t sure if I was right having been through all the problems lately. I just had to make sure, and when you followed me out, I knew for a fact that I was right. I’m so sorry I was such a jerk to you inside but I had to be sure. I really just can’t stand being hurt again. And I’m so terribly sorry that I snapped at you. I lost control of myself and I’m so thankful I didn’t attack you. You have to be more careful around me. I can be very dangerous sometimes. ”
I could have sworn my heart stopped and all I heard was, “don’t forget to breathe now. I don’t need another dead body on my hands.” His look a little more sincere and pained when he said that. I looked down and next thing I knew my hand was wrapped.
“Done.” He said with a slight smile. “That’ll hold till Monday. Ummm, you ok?” He asked but few words came to my mouth.
“I…think….so. I’m just still, well, kinda shocked that you knew.”
“I didn’t say anything because I wasn’t sure if I could handle a woman right now. But I realize that I feel the same way about you, and being around you makes me realize that one day I’ll be able to put my heart back together and love you as you love me. We’re just going to have to take it a bit slow at first.” He spoke and his voice was very even and sincere, and when I finally grasped what he had said, my world went black. I fainted.

Nate’s POV:
‘Crap, she’s out cold.’ I thought to myself and figured well, If she’s going to get some sleep, I might as well try. I picked her up in my arms, and talk about light as a feather. She was maybe 105 or 110lbs soaking wet, and I could feel her ribs and shoulder blades against my arms. I’m making her a nice breakfast tomorrow morning, it’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to cook. I looked down when I felt her stir lightly.
“Ugh, what happened?” She asked in an all to cute, half sleep dazed voice.
“You fainted, I’m taking you to bed.” I answered without breaking stride.
“Are you gonna sleep with me?” And I stopped dead in my tracks. “It would be nice, you’re really warm and when you’re not snarling at me I feel really safe around you.” She chuckled and I was thoroughly un-amused. She stopped laughing when she saw the serious look on my face.
“I will never do that again.” I said in a even keel. “And if you’d like to share my bed, well, I think I’m ok with that.”
I opened the door to my bedroom and she just nuzzled closer into my chest. “Mfff…..Good” half asleep again. God was she wonderful. I handed her a pair of my pajama bottoms and walked into the bathroom so she and I could change. I normally slept in the nude but tonight I didn’t have that option. So I put on a pair of cotton pajama pants as they were the loosest and lightest thing I owned and walked back out to see her in silk bottoms and a matching black lace bra. ‘Fuck……me…..sideways’
“………..” no words came out. Nothing. I was speechless.
She started to laughed and I just sighed. “You look like you’ve never seen a woman in night wear.”
“It’s been a while,” I said with a slight smile. I realized if I got hard I wouldn’t have the slightest chance to hide it in these pants. Not thinking twice I climbed into bed pulled back the comforter and invited her in. She settled right up against me and before I even had a chance to say goodnight, she was sound asleep. I kissed her forehead a lay on my back, only to have her wrap an arm and leg around me and nuzzle her neck into the crook of my arm pit. I wrapped my arm under the pillow behind her head, and settled myself to sleep. I imagined that I wouldn’t be able to sleep, but the rose and vanilla scent and the presence of this wonderful creature next to me took away all of my worries and all of my pain. I now had a reason besides revenge to keep on living. And for the first time in over 3 years, I was at peace.

Kate’s POV:
