Chapter 6
Wollfyn: Glad you did, and soon you will ;)
Passing Reader: Never really noticed, but you're right, I hardly ever read stories of the Vampire's POV. Actually, the thing about the name wasn't a mistake, you'll find out in this chapter. :D
Thanks for the reviews!
And please, if you see any blaring mistakes, please tell me. ^^
After about an hour of shopping, I managed to talk Kaden into getting a few pairs of clothes. I also grabbed a few things that I didn’t tell him about, that I saw him hesitating over.
Next came food. My angel liked just about everything, as long as it wasn’t too spicy.
I made sure to stock up on a lot, using the excuse that I had run out anyway. Soon we where on our way back. I wasn’t sure what else I could get for Kaden for entertainment, less he got bored. I could find some sort of store that sold books that were in Braille, but I didn’t even know if Kaden had ever learned, and I didn’t really feel like asking would be too polite.
Truthfully, I had no idea what a blind person did for fun. They couldn’t watch TV or play video games, which is what I had always thought teens to do for the whole day, and I really couldn’t think of what else he could do while he was my home, but I was sure there was something.
He can’t just sit around all day, and say he wasn’t bored, could he?
Well, I guess he could play the violin, something that I would very much enjoy, after hearing him that first night.
But, Jeremy took his violin, and I wasn’t sure if Kaden wanted another one. Some musicians were picky on the instrument they played, only wanting the one that was there, and refusing any others.
“If there is anything you want, just ask,” I told him, leading him to his room, and setting a few of the bags that I brought up down.
I quickly went to the dresser, and pulled out everything that was already there, and put in Kaden’s new clothes.
I took Adam’s and set them in the kitchen, planning on getting rid of them later.
I moved my blood packets to the bottom of the fridge, and putting everything else in there. I was thankful that I learned to cook. I might not have a sense of taste in human food, but I could get by, if I had ever had to fix something for a human. Not that I really ever had to before, not when I didn’t absolutely have to.
“Dean?” I hit my head when I tried to stand up quickly, my head in a cabinet, trying to find a pot that I knew was underneath there.
“Yeah?” I said, rubbing my head, wondering offhandedly why I didn’t break the damn thing. Kaden really knew how to be quiet.
“I just wanted to say, thanks.” He told me, another look that I couldn’t quite explain.
“It’s fine,” I said, walking over to him, noticing the reddish look on his face again. If I didn’t know better, I’d say that him showing gratitude embarrassed him.
“I mean it,” He acted if I didn’t believe him.
“Me too,” I said, trying to sound kind, it wasn’t hard, if it was to him.
I went looking around the kitchen, making sure I had everything I needed for him, along with everything easily accessible, just in case he wanted a snack, and he didn’t want to feel like a bother.
I needed to find a way to make him realize that he definitely wasn’t a bother. Yeah, there will be a little trouble later on, I was sure, but I’d happily do anything for him, whether he asked or not.
This creature had a strong hold over me, he just didn’t know it yet. And before I know it, I’d be at his beck and call. Almost there, already.
“We… we should probably talk about something,” Kaden broke the silence after a while, standing there in the doorway to the kitchen. I looked over to him, noticing the serious look on his face.
His face held such expression all the time, wonder if I could ever figure out what he was thinking, just by looking? Only one way to find out.
“About what?” I asked. I tensed up involuntarily again. I was sure that whatever he wanted to talk about now, he had been trying to say earlier this morning.
I tried to relax my body, and walked over to Kaden. I had the undying urge to touch him, I wasn’t sure why, but I quelled it before I actually did.
“I mean, just have it out in the open, so that we don’t have to keep this sort of secret, it’s useless, right?” My angel was starting to look worried, and I couldn’t help but think he was babbling, to stall.
“What is it?” I tried again, hoping he’d just say it. Kaden was quiet for a moment, his mouth would open, then close, as if he was trying to figure out how to word his thoughts.
“You’re not human,” He finally blurted out. If my heart could beat, it would’ve stopped. He knew. He knew.
I was quiet, staring at my angel, waiting for him to do something. Anything, instead of just standing there, looking guilty.
“What makes you think that?” I asked, maybe he really thought I was just a bad man, or he was just playing around?
“You don’t have a heartbeat,” He didn’t even hesitate this time. I sighed, before sitting down in one of the kitchen chairs, while Kaden leaned against the doorway.
I guess I already knew that he was going to figure that one out, but what was he going to do about it, why was he still here then? Did he think that I wouldn’t hurt him, because I hadn’t already, or that he had some sort of special hold over me.
He did, all of it, but my angel didn’t know it. I just hoped that my angel wasn’t too self-conceited.
“What are you going to do about it then?” I asked, and Kaden finally looked me in the eyes, and it was disconcerting.
“Don’t really know.”
“When did you find out?” I had to know, everything that I could.
“After Jeremy left, after the light fell, and you asked me my name.”
“That long?” I was curious how he even knew it was my, then again, I already knew his name, and I didn’t even try to disguise my voice.
“Yeah,” He answered, looking down.
“Then why did you come home with me?” What did he know about me, for that matter?
“Not really sure. I needed help, and I’ve always been a good judge of character. You’re a good man, to those you like anyway.” He’d gotten that much, just from being around me for a couple hours?
He really was perceptive.
“Why even bring it up then?” I wanted to know, couldn’t he have just kept quiet about all of this?
“Felt it was just a good time as any,” my angel said sheepishly. Well, I guess it wasn’t something to be angry about. Actually, it was a pretty good thing he knew, and brought it up. I wouldn’t have to worry about him finding out himself afterwards, and being scared of me.
It was a good thing indeed. Now I didn’t have to worry about keeping that secret away from him.
But, if he knew what I was, did he know about demons, did he know what he was?
“How much do you know about me? About demons?” I asked, and he shrugged.
“Not much. Never really met one that was full blooded, other than the doctors, for when I went to go find out why the hell I was going blind.”
“So then, do you know that…” I trailed off.
“Yeah, got a bit in me.” So he knew then. That was good. The doctors were probably the ones who told him, if anyone.
The thing is, most doctors are demons, because it’s better to hide the fact that we exist, while still being able to get medical treatment. I mean, what if a demon got severely hurt, and was rushed to the hospital, only for the humans to find out that he wasn’t exactly human? It would cause a panic, especially if the demon’s blood and internal organs were nothing like that of a human, and absolutely couldn’t have resulted from a genetic mutation.
“Do you know what kind?” Something even I couldn’t tell. It was too diluted. Kaden shook his head.
“Not a clue.” Well, that’s not too bad then, except…
“Wait, it caused your blindness?” I asked, skeptical. Demon blood never made a person’s body worse, unless it didn’t bond with the human right. Even then, it hardly showed up as anything.
“Apparently. One day, I just woke up completely blind, nothing to show that it was about to happen. I was about twelve at the time. It‘s just…”
“What?” I asked, trying to figure out something. If it just suddenly happened, because of the blood, then would turning him reverse it?
“I…” He trailed off again, I was about to prompt him again, when the doorbell rang.
I was just going to wait for whoever was out there to leave, but something was off. I couldn’t hear a heartbeat. It was a vampire.
Adam.
“Fuck,” I cursed, before standing up, and walking quickly to Kaden, intending to get him to the guest room, try and get him out of sight, when the door opened.
“Hey, Dean, I gotta tell you…” Adam looked between me and Kaden, my hand reaching for my angel’s. “What’s going on here?”
It didn’t seem like he’d figured anything out yet, so I tried thinking up an excuse, but nothing came to mind.
I couldn’t say he was my meal, vampires usually sleep with before they feed on their victim, and saying that would already get me in trouble, since he was male, and I was male, and it was bad. Very bad. Whether it was just a one time thing, the heads didn’t want to risk me actually being gay.
“Adam, get out of here,” I ordered menacingly, but he didn’t even glance at me, too busy staring at what was mine.
I couldn’t help but feel jealous, even if the look Adam was giving him wasn’t anywhere close to want or lust.
“Who’s your friend?” Adam said after a minute, still thinking.
I still hadn’t come up with an excuse. Kaden’s smell was too strong in my home to say that it was just someone who’d stopped by. Adam wouldn’t believe me for a moment.
“Get. Out.” I growled out, moving towards the man, who finally looked up at me. Apparently when I had become aggressive, I gave it all away.
Adam’s eyes widened, not out of fear, but understanding.
“Wow, you. Are. In. Trouble.” He stated, almost childlike.
“I swear, if you speak about this to anyone, I will kill you,” I hissed quietly.
“What’s going on?” I turned to Kaden, another mistake. Adam moved around, me, and went towards my angel, and before I could do anything, leaned in front of him, putting his hand on Kaden’s chin so their eyes could meet. I couldn’t do anything, for fear that I wouldn’t get there quick enough. It was like I was confronted with a beast. No sudden movements, or he’d snap my angel’s neck.
“So, what? You Dean’s fuck buddy or something?” He asked, almost nonchalantly, but I could hear the edge in his voice.
“W-what?” Kaden stuttered, his face going red. That must have been enough to convince Adam of whatever he was, because he stood up, and looked towards me.
“Never knew you swung that way.” He said, standing in front of me. I held back a sigh of relief when he hadn’t hurt my angel, but I still wanted to kill him.
I might have to, eventually, if he tried getting this back to the heads before I could do anything. But, if I did that, then the rest of the clan would be after me, and then me and Kaden would be on the run for just about forever. I couldn’t let him live his life like that.
“So what? Is this some kind of phase or something?” Adam was grasping at straws. He knew I was in trouble too, though I wasn’t sure why he hadn’t run off to tell the rest of the clan yet.
“No,” I answered lowly, watching his face, trying to figure out what he was going to do next. I needed to be ready for anything, even a fight.
“Do you even know how much trouble you’re going to be in if the heads find this out, especially Alexander?” I nodded. Alexander hated me, and always had. He was always trying to find some reason to get rid of me, and this would be the perfect excuse.
“I don’t think you really do,” Adam muttered, before going into the living room, and sitting down on the couch, rubbing a hand over his eyes and through his hair in frustration.
“What’s going on?” Kaden asked again, and I turned to him.
“Nothing,” I told him, “Wait here for a moment.”
Adam looked up at me, and I motioned for him to follow me outside. It took him a minute, but he finally got up, and we walked outside my home, into the building’s hallway.
“What the fuck are you doing?” Adam growled out, pointing towards the closed doors of my home, where my angel was inside, probably wondering what the hell was happening.
“I don’t know,” I said truthfully. Adam opened his mouth, but I spoke again, “Do you remember those legends, about a demon finding their true mate?”
“Yeah, what about them?” He didn’t seem to know where this was going.
“I think Kaden’s mine.” Adam scoffed, thinking I was joking, but the look on his face must’ve told him otherwise.
“You’re kidding, right? It’s just a legend, meaning it’s not true.” He tried making it sound like I was stupid.
“I think it isn’t,” I told him, and he prompted me to explain, “I can’t get the boy out of my mind, everything I think about is about him. I never felt this way about anyone ever before, and I have no idea what the hell is happening. I’d even go against the clan if it meant I could be with him…” I trailed off. It was true, though that was obvious. I’d do everything I could for my angel, but I wanted to make sure I could give him a good life with me. I didn’t want to be on the run.
“You’ve really obsessed with the kid, aren’t you?” He said, and I nodded. I was sure that I looked desperate, which I had never been before at this extent.
“Yeah, and, well, before I met him… I had a dream. About him.”
“Like a premonition?” I nodded again. “What was it about?”
“You really don’t want to know.” I let him take that however he wanted.
“So, what, have you fucked him yet?”
“No.”
“But you want to?”
“Badly.” Adam thought for a moment.
“Then why don’t you?” He asked, and I was a bit stunned. I really didn’t want to talk about my reasons.
“Why haven’t you gone off to tell the heads yet?” I asked, and he looked surprised, as if the thought had never crossed his mind.
“None of my business.”
“They’ll get mad at you if they find out you know, and haven’t said anything,” I stated, it was true. He’d be guilty, too, but he wouldn’t get in as much trouble.
“If they find out,” Adam winked.
“You’re not going to tell them?” I was shocked, to say the least. It was practically his duty as a clans member.
“Hey, if you want me to, I will,” I quickly shook my head. “Okay then. But what are you going to do, they’ll find out eventually. They might even kill him,” He gestured to the doors.
“I don’t know. I was planning on leaving the clan. Cutting off all my ties and all that, and going to one of the demon groups.” He knew what I was talking about.
“You could claim sterile. Or asexual, you don’t exactly flaunt sex, like most do.”
“They’d figure out I was lying.” Whether I was or not. Besides, we were checked to see if were incapable of producing offspring. They would even do another check, just in case.
“Well, I don’t really know what you could do. You could pull the whole ‘my grandpa was the one who saved the clan from being hunted down,’ sort of thing.” I shook my head. I doubted they much cared for that anymore, it was hundreds of years ago.
“I…” I trailed off, finding that I really had nothing to say.
“Where do you plan on going?” I hadn’t much decided for that one. There was a pretty big group up in Canada, that I knew would take me in, whether I had broken off all ties or not. I even knew some of the demons up there, and I was planning on calling, just in case.
“The Wraiths,” I said, and Adam nodded.
“Well, tell me when you leave.”
“Why should I do that?”
“So I can go with you, of course.” I stared at the man in front of me. Was he demented?
“Do you know what you’re talking about?” I asked him, and he just put on his trademark, shit-eating grin.
“Of course. Without you, everything here will be boring. Besides, I’ve never been to Canada before.”
“No.” I shook my head. He wasn’t coming with us.
“Yes. I could very well tell them what you’re up to. They still have a chance to get you before you get to the clan up there.” They being my own clan.
“You wouldn’t.”
“You don’t know that. Now, before we have an argument that you know that you’re going to lose, why don’t you get to you’re little ‘mate.’” He waved me off, and turned around, walking away, but I had one last thing to ask.
“Really, why are you doing this?” I asked. He turned around, the grin still on his face.
“You think you’re the only one who hates being here?” With that, he was gone. I guess, I never knew that he had any contempt for the clan, but he did, and it explained why he never wanted to go around them.
But, this would help. I couldn’t quite trust Adam, but now I had no choice. I was going to have to leave soon, but only after I made sure that Kaden wanted to go of his own free will, because I didn’t want to force him to go.
But he was going to go with me. Just by the fact that I was planning on being with another man, and leaving with him, would get him killed, and me punished.
It was too late to change my mind now.
