Chapter Six
“Look, you know I don’t mind you being here and all but you could at least make sure your condoms make it into the trash,” complained Leian.
It had been three weeks since Caz was released from the hospital and Aiden was still living with her. Every night there was new person in Aiden’s bed. Some girl, probably underage, drunk and almost to the point of unconsciousness would come stumbling through the apartment door each night with Aiden and they would disappear into his room only to be gone before Leian would wake up for work the next morning.
“Sorry, sometimes I get a little overzealous, if you know what I mean,” retorted a smug Aiden.
“Unfortunately, I do. I have to hear it every day,” groaned Leian from the kitchen. “I’ve been meaning to ask you something.”
“Oh yeah, and what would that be?” asked an oblivious Aiden.
Leian was nervous about asking but felt it needed to be done. “Have you talked to Kai lately?”
At the mention of his name, Aiden’s whole body stiffened. His WHOLE body. And his tone became more serious. “Nope, not since the incident at the hospital.”
“It depresses me to see what happened between you two. You were like the friend equivalents of soul-mates.”
“Ha, well shit happens. Anyway, I need a nap. I have another night of shaking some sweet little tart and I need my rest before hand.”
“You’re such a slut, just saying. And rest well. And this time make sure your condoms are properly disposed of, please,” bid Leian. “And be careful with those skanks. They\'re probably filled up like sperm banks.”
“Of course, oh humble landlord,” teased Aiden and he closed the door to the spare room.
His voice might have been teasing but his heart was aching. When he closed the door a few tears began to fall from his eyes. His new lifestyle was wearing him down to the core. Sure the sex wasn’t bad but it was empty. He wanted more. He wanted Kai. Acting like he wasn’t bothered by cutting off all ties to Kai was exhausting. His face was beginning to hurt from the fake, reassuring smiles he gave Leian. And he was sure that she was catching on. His phone began to play “Hanging By A Moment” and he knew that his chance to mend things were about to happen; Kai was calling him. He let the phone ring a few more times while he composed himself. When he was sure that all shakiness was gone from his voice he hit the accept button.
“Yeah?” he said as nonchalantly as possible.
“HI!! It’s Dylan!” squealed the voice on the other end. “I’m glad you answered. Look, I love you and everything but I’m going to press charges on you for assaulting me at the hospital. I hope it doesn’t mess up our friendship!”
“Friendship?! ARE YOU DELESUIONAL!?!” screamed Aiden. The tears were flowing freely down his face again.
Leian must have heard the commotion and was knocking on the door, screaming “Aiden! What’s wrong? Aiden, open up!”
“Look, I want nothing to do with you, you sorry little bitch. You’re a waste of sperm and egg. No wonder you can’t keep a relationship, you greedy, conniving whore! This conversation is over; press charges. I dare you,” at this Aiden threw his phone into the wall where it shattered into fragments.
“Would you like to talk?” asked Leian hesitantly. She stood in the doorway of the spare room.
“I guess there are a few things that could come out of the closet. Literally. Like myself. I’m in love with my best friend. I’m sorry I haven’t told you sooner it was just too confusing and it all hit me at the same time. Then when Caz was hospitalized and that scene happened with Dylan I just couldn’t take it,” said Aiden in one breath.
“Kai told me. He’s been trying to get in touch with you. He lost your number though; the night at the hospital he broke up with Dylan. Dylan went crazy and stole his phone. I wouldn’t give him your number because I wasn’t sure how you felt yet. I was just waiting to see if you would tell me or not. He seems really upset and lost without you. You might want to go over there. The last time I saw him, he was really bad.”
“He…He’s worried about me?” asked Aiden, wiping his eyes on the sleeve of his jacket.
“Yeah, all he’s been doing is asking me how you’ve been. I lied. He knows nothing about your new hobby.”
“Is he home now?”
“Yeah. You might want to clean yourself up a bit before you go anywhere though. You look a hot-ass mess right now.”
“Thank you!” screamed Aiden as he bounded across the room and gave Leian a huge bear-hug.
