HURRAH FOR 40+ HOURS A WEEK. *slumps in a corner filled with blood and tears*
x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
Night time had fallen over Japan, and the limo was still cruising down a rural highway. There were houses dotting the landscape, all lit up with a warm glow from a fireplace and most likely a relaxing session of television watching. Sae watched the scenery pass by with mild interest, his mind a bit more occupied with more pressing matters. He was now officially in Japan. Not only was it his first time in Japan, but he was there on very important business: his family. His flesh and blood. Bam, Shadow, and the rest of the Joo clan. And Penny, too. His fingers lifted to absentmindedly feel his slightly sore lobe, playing with the dangling piece of crystal. He was happy that she was able to come along with them. He’d made more friends in the past week than he’d ever done in his whole life (willingly), and to top it all off, he was going to see Milk soon! He missed his white fluffball more than anything, and couldn’t wait to have her purring body in his arms.
The limousine pulled to a halt in front of what looked like an abandoned farmhouse, and Sae stared at it blankly.
“… Break time…?”
“Welcome home, Kicks.” Bam said, patting Sae on the knee as he clambered over the Korean teen and hopped out of the car. Penny floated after the older male, and Sae stepped out as well.
At first glance, the house looked a bit… rickety. Like a shack. There were people moving inside of it, he could see through the faint light coming through the windows. There were some crops around it and a large barn house nearby, and half a dozen cars parked in the dirt.
“Home?” Sae repeated. Now, he’d never lived extravagantly, but this seemed a bit ridiculous. Talk about keeping low profile, he thought sardonically.
He followed Bam and Shadow into the house, and as soon as the door opened Sae was nearly knocked over by a small, five-pound cannon ball. He laughed, delighted, as he held Milk close to his chest – the kitten was purring and rubbing up against him furiously. A week apart was way too long for the pair.
Bam chuckled and reached out to scratch Milk’s head lightly, and Penny cooed, but refrained from petting the kitten. Sae glanced up and around, noting that the house was a shack indeed – two rooms; the main room, and a kitchenette. Where did everyone sleep? There were some figures seated in various places, and Sae smiled shyly. Their attention was rapt towards him, and he blushed. Ah, right. He was a Prince. He should expect this.
“Er…” he gave a faint wave. “Hi.”
Instantly, as if on cue, every person dropped from their seats, or where they were standing, into a kneeling position. Sae squeaked lightly in surprise and Penny giggled, mimicking everyone else and kneeling as well. Sae gave an exasperated glance to Bam, only to find that his cousin was kneeling as well.
“Finally, the Prince returns!” Someone said; she looked to be in her mid-twenties, with sleek black hair and ivory pale skin.
“Our namesake is saved.” This time, a guy that looked to be about Sae’s age. He glanced up and Sae got a glance of the same color eyes that Bam possessed, only a bit brighter. Did that mean that this one was of closer relation to Sae?
“Please,” Sae said, letting out a slightly frustrated breath. “Don’t kneel for me. I… I’m not used to this sort of stuff.” He chuckled a bit nervously, and Bam was the first one to stand.
“Sorry, Kicks. It’s just… we’re all really, really relieved to finally have you here in our presence.” Bam’s smile was slightly wavered, his eyes sparkling. Sae blushed and felt bad, that the family had to wait for so long for him to get his oblivious ass around.
“Well, I’m here now,” Sae said, the smile strengthening a bit. He was here, with his family. Milk let out an agreeable meow. He was about to say something, but got interrupted by his stomach making it’s empty presence known, the growl filling the pregnant silence that had fallen upon the room. “…”
The woman he’d noticed before stood up with a kind smile, her eyes as dark as Bam’s.
“Let’s get our Prince some dinner.” She said, before turning and heading into the kitchen. Penny followed, and Sae realized that no one aside from him and Bam actually knew she was there. What help was a ghost going to be in the kitchen? Oh well, she’d be revealed in due time. A few other women followed the first one, and the men all stood and returned to lounging on the different sofas and chairs in the room, picking up their beers and slugging them lightly.
“Have a seat, Kicks.” Bam said, ushering Sae into an empty chair. He sat down on it and sank instantly, giving out a surprised noise as his feet swung up into the air. Milk continued to purr and laid down in his lap comfortably, and he relaxed and let himself melt into the chair. The house was soon filled with the aroma of cooking food and laughter, mild chatter accompanied by a radio in the middle of the room. He found himself feeling right at home… a feeling he’d never experienced before.
And he knew he could get used to it.
x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
That night found Sae and Bam in the living room still, Bam reclined in a chair and Sae sprawled out on the couch. Penny had disappeared to her own dimension so she could sleep, and the rest of the clan retired to the barnhouse, which had been remodeled into sleeping quarters. Bam kept stealing glances at Sae while the teen slept, noting that this was possibly the only time he’d ever seen the teen so relaxed. He knew that Sae was having a hard time adjusting to the idea of a family, and even friends, but the Japanese-Korean man was more than proud of the young Prince.
The boy that occupied the man’s thoughts stirred and rolled over, Milk shifting on the pillow by his head before falling back asleep. Sae, however, awoke slowly and glanced around the room, gathering his bearings. Once he caught sight of Bam he let a smile flit over his groggy features. It was the early hours of the morning, and the sun was just starting to show the tip of its rays over the horizon.
“Hey…” Sai said, his voice croaking slightly from his sleep.
“Morning.” Bam said, peering over the tops of his feet at the boy.
“Didn’t you sleep…?” The teen asked, sitting up slightly and rubbing his eyes.
The older man shrugged lightly. “I dozed a bit… are you hungry?”
“No,” the Korean teen said, fishing around the side of the couch, looking for the lever that made it turn into a bed. He found it and tugged, a clanking noise and a jolting movement turning the sofa into a bed, He glanced up at Bam as he laid down, “I can’t sleep well without you next to me…”
Sae didn’t catch the blush that dusted Bam’s features as the older man got up out of his chair and sidled over to the bed, setting himself carefully on it. It seemed rickety and like it would collapse at any minute; deeming it safe he laid down next to the teen, and as soon as Sae rolled over to place an arm over Bam’s stomach, another jolt made the bed shift slightly. Both men opened their eyes and stared up for a second, not daring to breathe – the second Sae exhaled the frame of the bed collapsed violently and the pair yelped as the matress connected with the floor and woke them up completely.
“… Jesus.” Bam commented dryly as he sat up and rubbed his head, glancing at a giggling Sae. He raised his brow and Sae shook his head while waving his hand.
“You-,” the teen struggled for air. “You shoulda seen your face!”
Bam grumbled and rolled over, and Sae made a cooing sound as his arm found its place around the man’s waist once again.
“Aw, I didn’t mean it…” Sae whispered, his lips ghosting over the flesh on Bam’s neck. The older man visibly shuddered, and Sae smiled lightly.
“Yeah…” Bam sighed out and rolled over some so he was on his back, Sae pillowed against his side.
They both fell into comfortable silence, which then transcended into a deep slumber for both of them. When Bam awoke the next morning, Sae was nowhere to be found.
x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
This was the second time this had happened to Sae. A hand had covered his mouth, and when he inhaled to scream, his senses were attacked by the potent scent of chloroform. He blacked out, only to awake in a foreign place. But this time he had no idea who his captor was; it definitely wasn’t Bam.
When cerulean eyes fluttered open, Sae let out a groan that was muffled by the gag in his mouth. He started to panic a bit, glancing around wildly like a trapped animal - darkness. He was in a warehouse of sorts, that was all he could tell. His heart was hammering and he could hear the blood rushing to his ears, clouding his vision and mushing his thoughts together.
Focus, Sae! he commanded himself, taking a few deep breaths through his nose, eyes watering with the faint after-smell of the chloroform in his nostrils. He could hear some talking in the distant darkness, but couldn’t make out what they were saying. They were speaking Korean, which instantly registered as abnormal, seeing as how last time he checked he was in Japan. His heart started to flutter again; had he been captured?
Shit shit shit shit shit.
“Aish…” A man came out of the shadows, entering the halo of light that was bathing Sae in a harsh fluorescent glow. He was an attractive man, looking to be only a few years older than Sae himself. His expression was a bit pained, and it registered in Sae’s mind that he had been arguing with whoever else was in the darkness. When the man lifted his head and shook it slightly to get the mop of black hair out of his face, Sae was startled by the reveal of emerald eyes. Was that the signature of the Kim clan…?
“Okay, kid. I’m going to remove your gag, and you’re not gonna scream. Got it?”
Sae didn’t make a move – he only glared vehemently at the attractive man, who sighed and placed his hands on the younger male’s knees, leaning down to get their oddly colored eyes on even ground.
“Look. I don’t want to make this into a huge ordeal. Either you comply,” the man pulled a nasty looking knife out of his breast pocket, “or I gut you clean right here.”
Azure eyes flickered from the crude blade to the man’s dazzling Earthy orbs, and then nodded. The man smiled, and it would have made Sae’s heart skip a beat under any other circumstances. Right now it only made the teen nauseous.
The man replaced the knife into his pocket, and then reached out to unclasp the ball gag that was occupying Sae’s mouth. When it was pulled away Sae instantly swallowed the built up saliva and licked his lips, then worked his jaw a bit to ease the soreness. The gag looked like something from a horror film… or, in the back of Sae’s mind, a porn movie. His heart rate sped up again, and as much as he wanted to say something, he met eyes with the taller man and settled for glaring.
“Not that anyone but us could hear you if you screamed,” the man’s smile turned a bit wicked, and Sae’s blood ran cold. He was shaking like a leaf, and the man took mock pity with him. His hand rested on the youth’s cheek, and he cooed lightly. “Aw… our little Prince is scared. Let’s make him feel more welcome, hm?”
Those words cued a few more figures to step into the dim light that reached the furthest corners of the darkness. Each one of the men held a different weapon in their hands; guns, maces, lead pipes, crow bars. They obviously played dirty, and that made Sae close his eyes to try to block out the images of these strangers beating him to a pulp because of his heritage.
“Chin up, Sae Rang.”
Sae’s eyes snapped open as the man referred to him by his real name; he hadn’t been called Sae Rang since before he left his life behind.
“Ah… so it is you. We weren’t sure,” the man said, shrugging lightly and smirking devilishly. Sae kicked himself mentally; how could he be so stupid? To get captured-
… Wait, how had they taken him right out from underneath Bam’s nose? They had been sleeping, the house was heavily protected by the rest of the Joo clan… how-?
“You have him. I want to leave.”
The sound of Bam’s voice made Sae whip his head around to see his cousin coming from the man’s flanks. Sae’s heartbeat picked up again, and he swore he was about to hyperventilate. He felt his heart in his head, his lungs were struggling to function correctly; his eyes rolled back in his head and he felt cold plastic pressed to his lips – he instinctively breathed in when a puff of air came into his mouth, and he felt himself calm considerably. He glanced up to see Bam standing above him, that charming smile on his lips and a hint of sadness in his eyes.
“Bam…” Sae’s voice did nothing to hide his betrayal. Bam was with the enemy…? How? Why?
“Shhh, Kicks.” Bam reached out and cupped Sae’s cheek with a warm hand, and Sae leaned into it as tears brimmed in his eyes, a few dripping down his flushed cheeks. He started to cry silently, and he felt Bam hesitate before the comforting hand was removed.
Sae looked up with blurry vision, watching as Bam and the mysterious man faced each other. The no-name man handed Bam a suitcase, and Bam nodded before casting one last, longing look towards Sae and then disappearing into the darkness.
“Bam!” The teen leaned forward, his emotions getting the better of him as he lurched forward against the restraints binding him to the chair. His chest constricted and he heaved in a few breaths, his vision starting to fade considerably.
Bam… how could he do that to him? Sae thought… Sae thought that they were family! That Bam was there to protect him, be his right-hand man… keep him safe…
“Here kid.”
The cold plastic of the inhaler was pressed against his lips once again, and the puff of air passed through his esophagus and lungs like water cleansing the pipes. Sae slumped in his seat, the only thing keeping him upright being the ropes that bound him. He felt a cold hand against his cheek, one that made him jerk his head away and glare up at the man.
“Who the fuck are you?” He hissed, his body trembling with newfound anger.
“Me?” The man feigned innocence, placing the rejected hand on his chest with a smile. “I’m your savior, Sae Rang Joo. I’m the man that you owe your life to, I’m the man that you are forever indebted to.”
“Bullshit.” Sae grumbled, still keeping his glare level.
“Really? You should take out all that anger on the man that just betrayed you.” The man purred, and Sae felt his heart sink a fraction. “The man that took ten million dollars to hand over his family’s most prized possession to the family that was going to put his to shame. Actually, you should thank Bam, Sae Rang. He saved your life. You were trying to help a lost cause, kid. The Joo clan will, and always will be, a failure. How else could we have tossed them over so easily?”
Sae shook his head. The man made sense. But Bam… his family. He had gained so much in so little time, only to have it ripped away from him in less than twenty-four hours? He went through Hell for nothing…? It couldn’t be. Bam… He loved Bam. Bam wouldn’t do that to him… would he? His family…
The Korean teen’s mind was swimming with the results of the night’s events, and he found himself getting a headache.
“Don’t think about it too hard, kiddo.” The mystery man said, petting Sae’s burgundy hair affectionately. Sae didn’t even pull away from the touch, too weak from endless thoughts and the emotional heartbreak he’d just endured. “But I suppose now I can tell you my name; they call me Boss. But you, Sae Rang. You can call me…” the handsome man leaned down and whispered into Sae’s ear, the action making the teen shudder and his face heat; “… Park.”
x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
“Are you not pleased with your surroundings?”
“I don’t appreciate being held captive in this hovel you call a mansion.”
Sure, Sae was being a bit too harsh on Park; here he was, seated on a lavish King sized four-poster bed in the middle of a room that could fit six more beds in it easily, surrounded by silk and satin and wine and pretty much everything that comes with being pampered. He was seated Indian-style, his arms crossed tightly over his chest, his cerulean eyes glaring up at Park harshly.
Park pouted lightly and placed a hand on his hip, the other hand idly rubbing his smooth chin. He was so incredibly handsome, Sae was practically disgusted. Not to mention the guy knew it, too – he kept making obscene, subtle passes at the younger male, who didn’t exactly reciprocate. The whole reason he was seated on the bed in the middle of the day was because the last time Park complimented his ‘beautiful features’, the older man had been slapped across the face.
“Hovel, you say?” Park spoke, looking mildly disconcerted at the fact his beautiful home had been insulted. “Surely you don’t mean that.” Emerald eyes were slightly watery, and Sae nearly lost it.
“How can you be so immature!? What the fuck do you want with me? I don’t know anything, it’s not like trading me in for money is going to do you any good!”
“Who said I needed your knowledge? Who said I had any regard for your bloodline, hmm?” Park purred lightly, moving forward and putting his hands on the edge of the bed.
Sae scooted back a bit, and rolled his eyes. The water bottle next to his bed that he’d been using for the past 24 hours came to his lips and he tipped it back, trying to get the last remnants of liquid out of it; it was in vain, though, as no water came to his parched throat.
“Would you like me to fill that up for you?” Park offered, extending a hand. Sae glared and held the bottle out to Mr. Kim, Park’s personal butler, instead. Mr. Kim took it silently and headed to the bathroom to fill it up, and Park raised a brow. “You trust my butler more than me? Now that hurts my feelings.”
“At least I know he won’t put a date rape drug in there,” Sae spat, thanking Mr. Kim when he returned and handed the teen the bottle.
The teen drank just about the whole thing greedily, and then set it down on the night stand. He turned to say something to Park, but lost his thought when he was nearly nose-to-nose with the man in question. Sae blushed brightly but didn’t dare to move, the fear that Park might actually hurt him coming to mind.
“How are you so sure of Mr. Kim? He is here for my beck and call… not yours.”
Just as those words fell from Park’s luscious lips, Sae got the sudden, unexplainable urge to kiss the lips that were teasing him. His vision was doubling a bit, and it seemed that Park’s emerald eyes were ten times as captivating as Sae remembered them being. Azure eyes hooding slightly, Sae started to lean in, a hand reaching up to comb his fingers through Park’s long black hair, reveling in the feeling of the strands. A hairsbreadth away from Park’s lips, though, the hair on the back of Sae’s neck stood and he got a chill – he glanced off to the side and saw Penny standing at the side of the bed, looking very disappointed.
“Eh~!” Sae pulled back, even though his body was screaming at him for not devouring those beautiful lips. He stared at Penny, then reached up on instinct to feel the crystal earring dangling from his lobe. “Jesus…” He forgot that she had to go everywhere the crystal went. A life line! … Kinda. If a ghost could be called a life line…
Meanwhile, Park was frowning and pouting slightly. “Beautiful Sae, why did you pull away so suddenly? Does my breath smell?”
Sae glared; the drink had been drugged, obviously, but not powerfully enough. It seemed like Mr. Kim had administered just enough to give Sae the urges – he could still control them. And thanks to Penny’s presence, he came back to his senses. Though his stomach was still fluttering with the close proximity of the elder male.
“I need to sleep.” Sae said suddenly, flopping back and scrambling under the covers, pulling them up over his head. He heard Park sigh heavily, and then the weight on the edge of the bed lifted and he heard his captive and butler shut the door behind them.
“They’re gone,” Penny said, and he felt her cold presence as she sat down on the bed as well. He sat up and stared at her, wishing he could hug her and cry on her shoulder – even if it might have been against her will (which he doubted), she was here, and that was such a relief.
“I… did you know? About Bam?” Sae asked, sitting up and staring down into his lap.
“No…” Penny said, glancing away with sad eyes. “I never pegged him to be the type… he loved you so much, Kicks.”
Sae snorted; “Right.” He closed his eyes and ran a hand over his face, then glanced at Penny and smiled. “Call me Sae, Penny. That’s my name.”
The blond blinked, then nodded and smiled lightly. “I… I can’t imagine what you’re feeling right now. That Park guy is a creep, but Bam is an even bigger one for handing you over so easily!” Her cheeks were lightly flushed with her anger, and her fists were balled on her lap, fingers clenching the material of her blue dress lightly.
Sae glanced around the room and sighed. “Well at least I’m back in Korea. We’re at the Kim family’s mansion near the border.”
“Of North Korea?” Penny asked, tilting her head lightly. “Last I heard… South and North Korea weren’t too friendly with each other.”
“Yeah.” The teen rubbed his head and laid back. “That’s pretty much right. North Korea is pretty communist right now. But I think they’re the funding for all of the Kim’s money. I don’t know too much about this family rivalry between my family and theirs, but I know all about the Kim’s. They’re always on the news doing something or other. I’ve seen that man, too.” Sae glared off into the darkness of the room. “At least now I have a name to curse.”
“He’s a perv.” Penny huffed lightly, crossing her arms. “I’ve been watching from my realm, but when he started to take advantage of you I couldn’t handle that.”
“You can see things from your dimension?” Sae asked, lifting a brow.
“Yeah,” she pointed at Sae’s earring. “From in there. You know how Genie’s have lamps? Well. I’m the Genie and that’s my lamp. Only I can come out whenever I feel like.” She smiled lightly, then placed an icy hand near Sae’s leg – the best comfort she could offer without making him hypothermic. “But let’s focus on what’s happening. We have to figure out why Bam would do this to you.”
“Yeah…” Sae laid back and stared up at the canopy of his bed, and Penny floated into his vision. He squinted in thought, “Did you see any warning signs that he was going to do this?”
Penny shook her head, her long blond hair falling down in tendrils, curtaining her face prettily. Sae smiled idly; she was beautiful. A pity that she died so young.
“Well,” Penny smiled and snapped her finger as a thought hit her. “With my help you can get out of here! I can unlock doors and windows and basically get you outta here scotch free!”
Sae blinked, eyes wide. In theory Penny was correct; she could do anything a human couldn’t do. She didn’t even need a key – should phase through something and jiggle the locks free. But Sae, Sae was a human… and plus, he didn’t even know where they were! He just knew they were somewhere near the border. He had no money and no transportation; even if they did get out, they were sitting ducks and would probably just be brought back into the building – with the shame of humiliation hanging over them.
“I need some sleep, Penny.” Sae finally said, shutting down their conversation. Penny looked a little hurt, but wasn’t going to question the kid – he’d just been kidnapped, he had no idea where he was or what these people wanted with him; yeah, he had reason to be snappy. He laid back and pulled the satin covers up to his chin and rolled over onto his side, pulling the crystal earring from his lobe and setting it on the bedside table. “Good night.” He said, and he saw Penny move towards the crystal, giving him a sympathetic look before she phased out and disappeared completely.
Why couldn’t he have just stayed at home and led on his boring life?
