Darkness

Meg opened her eyes as she felt a cold chill pass over her. She stood up suddenly at the sight before her. Meg stood before fallen dead trees that looked burnt. The once beautiful pond was now dried up with trash filling it. There were small fired every where with people huddled around them. They reminded her of the homeless people she saw when she lived in New York City. Meg stood there shocked at what happened in less than 10 minutes. She started looking around for an answer to what happened.

Meg walked up to one woman. “What happened here? Where is the Lord of this land?”. “He has fallen. Natasha took over and placed him some where. Fell he did. Allowed her to kill everything” the person said while rubbing its hoofs over the fire that was lit in front of her. “How did he fall?” Meg asked. “She trapped him and stole his powers” a woman sitting on the other side of the bright fire replied. “How can he get his powers back? Isn’t there a way to undo this?” Meg asked more franticly. “Only the true Queen could, but she’s lost. Only she has the power to set him free now and together they can get rid of this darkness that Natasha has brought to our land” The woman replied once again. “Where is the Queen then” Meg asked desperately, grabbing the woman’s arm. Meg was pushed back, causing her to fall, while the woman snapped at her “The Queen is lost girl!”

Meg stood up and walked off defeated. She could hear people and children all around her screaming and crying. Meg was oblivious to her surrounding now; all that was on her mind was if Alexander was alright. She didn’t know why she cared so much about this man. She hadn’t known him for very long but she could feel that the emotions for him were as strong as day, well if it ever turned day here again. Ever since she came here, things were changing within herself. Her emotions, which she locked away, came to the surface of her being and didn’t know why. It was something about in this place that she didn’t quit understand. She had met some many people around her. The only ones that took any notice of her were Alexander and that old woman in the forest.

She napped her head up when she suddenly remembered what the old woman said about moving. If she could just find out how to do it, she could find Alexander. But she also remembered about what the woman near the fire said. Only the true Queen could restore his powers and together they would stop it all. Meg could feel her heart sink deep within her body as she sat down on top of a large enough rock. ‘This means they are supposed to be together. Just like in the story he told me.’

“But that doesn’t mean I should give up” Meg shouted as she stood up with determination flaring in her emerald eyes. “But I don’t even know where to look for a Queen here” Meg stated to nobody but herself as her heart dropped again. ‘Any place other than here I suppose is a good enough to start my search’ and with that thought, Meg turned on her heel and started walking in the opposite direction of where everybody was huddled at.

It felt like she was walking for hours before she where she was standing now, which was in front of a vast forest. With determination to search everywhere for this Queen, Meg made her way into the depressing forest. The trees seemed to be engulfed by shadows and darkness. Meg knew that these once gloomy trees held some kind of magic to them. Ever fiber in her body told her to turn back but she knew her heart wouldn’t allow her to. She forward she went, deeper and deeper into the dismal forest. She held her chin up high, trying to show no fear, as she walked further into the darkened woods.

After walking for hours, the forest felt like it had no other side to it. There were no signs of ever coming close to the other end. The forest seemed to get darker with every step that she took. It was as if some creature was absorbing light itself. Meg felt trapped and was quickly losing the hope she had. She was never the type of person to after things so why was she doing this now? She could always remember giving up when it came to things, never having the courage to fight, but this time was different. Was it all for Alexander? She could still feel things deep inside of her changing her.

Ever since she first had arrived in Oblivion, her world had gone upside and down side up. She wasn’t noticing that the things inside of her changing and because of it being dark in the woods, she didn’t notice that, with every courageous step she took, the place she had just been was changing as well.

After what felt like several more hours of walking in the same directions, Meg finally came to the end of the forest but had to shield her eyes from the sudden contact with the bright sunlight. She was shocked that this place was unaffected from Natasha’s darkness. Before her stood a simple cottage made out of stone with morning glory vines covering it. There were two wooden shuttered windows, a large stone chimney and a wooden door. There was gray smoke streaming out of the chimney and from outside of the cottage, Meg could hear someone banging around inside.
