Chapter 6 – New Life
Marni was still pacing up and down her room, in the little space that she had to do so. At least she had stopped yelling for her daughter. That had been particularly painful for him to watch. Really, watching Marni in pain at all had been troublesome, but it could not be helped. He had known (in his head, not his heart) that it would take some getting used to on her part. His head had told him that he might have to physically hurt her to get her to believe that there would be no way out, but his heart had hoped there would be another way.
He had time. He had watched the news at noon and there had been no mention of a kidnapping, had checked the newspapers and there had been no mention of it either. It was a big risk he had taken, Luke knew, but he had to be with her—had to show her that there was more for her out there than the life that she had fallen into. She would not choose so he had chosen for her, and he knew it would all work out for the best in the end.
When he had gone to check on Hannah earlier she was still unconscious but she had a steady pulse. He had definitely given her too much of the valium, but really he thought of her as one less thing he would have to worry about. Luke did not honestly know what he was going to do with her. He didn’t want her, he wanted Marni. Marni would be heartbroken, though, if anything were to happen to Hannah, so that wasn’t really an option.
When Hannah woke up she would find a closet full of pretty things—though Luke didn’t really know what 9 year old little girls wore—a sandwich and cold milk on the table, and some coloring books and crayons on the floor. That would suit for now and anything else she wanted he would try to obtain for her. What am I going to do with a little girl?, he thought again to himself. He shook his head and tried to think about less troubling things.
In a little while he would have to make something for Marni’s lunch, and be on guard for whatever she might try to do, in her desperation. He had a feeling that she was cooking up a plan while she paced, some way to outsmart him. It wouldn’t work, of course. Luke knew everything there was about Marni, from how much she had weighed when she was born to her social security number to the embarrassing fact that Hannah had actually been conceived before she was married to Greg. He knew how she thought, knew what she liked, and he still loved everything about her.
Luke’s thoughts drifted back to how her silken thighs had felt; gripping themselves around him, how velvety and wet her pussy had felt as he drove his cock into her again and again. He would have her again; it was all he dreamed of and more.
He watched her for a few more minutes, her pacing unchanged, then sighed and went downstairs to make her favorite sandwich—egg salad on toasted rye bread. He poured her some iced tea, cut up an orange into smiles and took up his second tray to her.
Marni must have heard his footsteps coming up because she stopped pacing once he neared her door. He’d had a monitor installed outside her bedroom showing the 4 camera views he had installed in her rooms. That is how he knew that she had picked up the breakfast tray and was hovering where she would be able to hit him when he opened the door. Luke smiled to himself and shook his head, internally remarking her sheer desperation to resort to this. “Put down the tray, Marni,” he finally said while pressing the monitor button.
He saw Marni hesitate on screen, pausing as if she had forgotten he could see her. “I want to see my daughter,” she stated, punctuating each word.
“I told you that you could see her once you’ve rested,” he said, with kind laughter in his voice. It was the voice he would chide a child with. “You’ve been pacing all morning. Put the tray down and go sit on the bed.”
Luke watched her sigh in defeat and set the tray next to the dishes from breakfast. Marni stalked her way over to the bed and sat down on the edge, folding her arms and glaring around the room.
Luke put his key in the door and opened it slowly; bracing for some sort of running attack but it never came. “I guess I should probably get you a table, hmm? It’ll make it easier for you to bide your time, though I really do like the idea of you spending all day in bed,” he said to her, glancing around the room before setting the tray down next to her on the bed.
“You know,” he mused, “this would probably be easier if you sat back on the pillows. The tray isn’t really meant for those sitting on the edge.”
“I’m content where I am,” Marni said through gritted teeth. Luke saw her clenching her hands into fists by her sides.
“I brought enough for two, is it alright if I eat with you, Marni?”
“If you wish,” she said, clenching her teeth even tighter; the way she said it made it sound like she would rather dive into a pool full of razorblades.
Luke busied himself pulling up a chair next to the bed, facing Marni and setting up lunch. When he looked back up at her silent tears were falling down her face and staining her shirt with little droplets. He sat down in his chair and gazed at her. “Don’t you like it here?” he asked her.
“You—you actually think I would like it here? Why on earth would I like it here? You haven’t let me see my daughter, you’ve taken me from my house and from my whole life, and last night while I was still under the influence of the drugs you gave me you raped me you bastard. You raped me.” Marni was full out crying and sniffling at the end, using her sleeve to wipe her face. Luke reached out to hand her one of the napkins from the tray and she slapped him when he got close enough. His head spun from the force of it. “Don’t you ever touch me again. Do you hear me? Never again. And God help you if you lay a finger on Hannah.”
Luke was stunned and speechless. He let the napkin fall to the floor and straightened to leave, pushing the chair back as he went. “I guess I’ll go then.”
“Take lunch with you,” she said, sniffling, “I won’t be eating anything you bring me. I would strip off these clothes you gave me if I didn’t know that you’d get more of a thrill of seeing me naked. I don’t want anything of yours.”
“Marni, I—.”
“Get out. Just get out. OUT!!” she screeched.
When Luke tried to retrieve the lunch tray she flipped it with her hand to set the contents flying across the room. He bent to get the tray and left her there, crying and rocking herself on the edge of the bed, clutching her legs and knocking her forehead against her knees. She looked like a little lost child and it hurt him to the core. She had hurt him. His angel. He would get her back, that he knew, and he stalked back into the house to try to figure out how.
