Rejected by your own kind

The next morning came. Syrus was quiet and angry but he walked with us as Gahie lead us to the

place where the darkhorus lived.

"Madness." Red grunted when he saw grass piled in neat stacks, and horus where coming in and out

of them. "What a waste of food, they're living in our food!"

"Don't let them hear you!" I butted my head on his shoulder. "Go on Labbu, go to them."

Labbu didn't move, he just starred at them.

"They're strange." Labbu said. "I want to stay with the heard."

"Horus can't live with seth's!" Red brayed.

"They seem nice." Geb said. "Look at them, families everywhere."

"they have more fur than me." Labbu said. Tep found a discarded fur on the ground and muzzled it

to Labbu.

"Put this on, Horus wear strange skins." Tep said as Labbu attempted to dress himself.

"Wear it like them, around their hips." Said Wennet. "I noticed the horus have sensative

lowers so they were extra fur." Labbu was dressed like them, a bit dusty and tattered but good

enough to us, the concept of beauty is foreign to most animals.

"Now Labbu, this is for your own good." I said. "They are your kind."

"Ok Naz, but I'll visit the herd."

"NO!" Tep butted him.

"What, can't I visit my family?" Labbu asked with hurt in his eyes.

"If you come back to our herd they will kill us."

"Why should I live with them then!?"

"You belong with them now."

Labbu walked to Syrus.

"Goodbye brother." He lay his hand on Syrus's snout, then ran to the horus dwelling.

We stayed back and watched. The darkhorus were curious, some looked threatened.

I felt we made a mistake when youngsters from the village chased him away with rocks

and sticks so sharp the end shimmered in the sun light. Natrually we ran away at the sight

of danger. Labbu joining us during the run. When we lost sight of them we stopped to rest...

But we were lost... We rested in the tall grass that night until we could figure out how to

get back home. Late that night Tep and I found a small spring to drink from. Red was already

there grumbling about something.

"What are you doing up old one, you need rest." Tep said.

"I can't sleep, I caught Labbu alone in the grass playing with his apendiges, we don't do that!

The horus can be gross at times!" At the time neither Tep or myself knew what he was talking

about. Our species doesn't grasp the concept of masturbation.

"You shouldn't be spying on him." That was all I could say.

"Those horus weren't the same breed, we should try our old home." Tep said.

"It's been gone for ages are you mad?" Red brayed.

"It's an Idea." Tep said.

"Do you remember the river, the sobeks, and the desert?" Red asked.

"Yes I know, but what about the horus who lived near our old home, they were freindly to

the horus we lived with, perhaps they'll take in Labbu, he looks like them." Tep said.

"That's a racist remark, we lived in peace with stripedeseth and we looked differen't,

why should the horus be any different?" I took offense.

"Why don't we try the darkhorus again? It was only youngsters teasing him, maybe the adults

will be more kind." Red explained, he didn't want to make that long journey. He may not last.

"Get some sleep, we have to find Gahie, if we find him, he can take us back home." Tep was

speaking of false hope. Gahie ran off in another direction when we ran from the village children.

That night seemed to last forever.
