Fosterlings
A few hours after all four children had fallen asleep, the elder's had finally found them. While they were powerful for sure, something kept blocking thier magics and kept the children hidden from them. They had been alerted at the very moment the wards that had been placed on the compound had went off. Wards that even Jacob and Alicia didn't know about. They knew how important the children were, but they were confused as to how something got that close to Jacob and Alicia. Let alone kill them both. The three of them thought that whoever or whatever it was had gotten to the children as well. It wasn't untill one of the Elders in the school had actually went there that they found them, huddled in a dark and damp cave. Which confused them even more, for obviously it was made by magic, and at the very least they should have sensed the children use thier magic. It was all very strange to Kate.
Kate did manage to open the cave hole long enough to see Jon walking towards her, his hand out trying to shut it once more. "This young man is very powerful, he shouldn't be able to close this hole with ME opening it" she thought to herself. And moments before the hole closed she spoke to all of them. "Children, you do not know me, but I went to school with your parents, my name is Kate. I'm one of three elders that run it. Jon, you actually should have heard of me, for your parents had planned on sending you there next term. Surely they discussed it with you. I'm not here to hurt you, I'm here to help. If you just open the cave for me, I can show you that I mean you no harm. I can take you away from this place if you will let me." Kate stood there hoping that the children would trust her. She could feel the evil already closing in on thier location. The faster that she could get them out of there, the better off they would all be.
As being the oldest, Jon decided to do what was best for them and open the cave to allow Kate to enter. And since he sealed it behind her, she would be no match for the four of them together. "We are listening, Kate. And just so you know, no tricks or you will regret it. I remember mother and father telling me about the school, but they mentioned no names. So talk quickly."
Kate smiled at him, for he was as brave as his parents had told her he was. Which was a good sign, for they would all need that bravery in the days to come. "Look, I know that you are hurting and sore, and sick at heart over your parents, but I DO need to get you out of here. Feel with your hearts and you will be able to feel that evil is lurking not far behind me. I won't beat around the bush, they are after the four of you. I REALLY need to get you away from here and I can explain more at the school." With that, and a bright green flash, they were all transported instantly to the Empyrean School.
Immediatly upon arriving, Kate gestured that they all sit. Mentally she spoke to her assistant asking that he bring several pairs of clothes, prepare a room and baths, not to mention to ask the cook to make something for the children to eat. As she did this she tried to think of the best way to tell them what needed to be said. She also decided that Ember, Jason and Edward should not hear this as they were to young. So when her assistant arrived at her office door, and with an ok from Jon, Tobias led Ember, Ed and Jason down the hall towards nice hot baths, fresh clothes along with something to eat before going to bed. Jon however was looking intently at Kate, trying to figure out what the heck was going on.
Kate took a deep breathe and at last began to speak. "What I am about to tell you Jon must not under any circumstances leave this room. Very few know about it and we would like to keep it that way. You four children are part of a prophecy. At least you were. You see, long ago the first Elder of our school had a vision that four children, four elementals would come from his own line. These four boys would be a powerful force which no one could rival. Whether they were good or evil always remained in question, but when Ember was born, we were unsure of what happend. We didn't know if you four would be THE four that we have long been searching for. We think that something went wrong. As for what, we can't be to certain for fate or destiny or whatever you call it obviously had other plans for you. This is the reason that I asked that Ember be taken out, she has no need in hearing this information after what she's already been through. And we do know what happend to Cairyn, Ember's pillar of fire gave out signals all across the magical community. "
"The thing is, we aren't entirely sure that it was ONLY Ember doing it. For long ago, when the school was new, Edward helped out a young woman who was also a firestarter. She is your great ancestor, Jasmine. Jasmine done a bit of damage in her day and today it felt like her magic mixed with Embers. We still aren't sure how that could happen, only that it did. Now, while you Jon are old enough to attend school here, your two brothers and Ember are not. And we cannot chance having them here. This place is for learning and teaching magic, sometimes dark magic. And that is why we have a law that children under sixteen cannot come here. It is to easy for them to be swayed to evil once they learn of that type of magic. They will have to be fostered by another family. The will be very well taken care of, of that there is little doubt. But you as the oldest must constent to this. Otherwise the four of you will have to leave this place in a few days. There is no doubt that you can take care of them Jon, but the authorities will not agree with us as you are only sixteen. I wish that it didn't have to be this way, I truely do. But the rules are our rules and we must abide by them. Before you give me an answer, why don't you get cleaned up, have some hot food and a good nights rest? We can talk about your options and any questions that you might have tomorrow."
Jon knew that that was clearly a dismissal and he stood up from his chair only to find her assistant Tobias at his side. But before he left the room, he couldn't forget his manners. "Thank you Kate for all that you all are already trying to do for us. And I agree, I think that I should have a clear head before I make my decision." Although in his mind, he already knew what needed to be done. He couldn't split up what was left of his family. And even though the authorities may not believe that he can take care of them, they didn't know that they could take care of themselves. For they were powerful, even for children. As he walked behind Tobias, he asked if they could first stop off where his brothers and sister were, he wanted to make sure that they were ok before he took care of himself. From here on out they were his first and only priority.
After checking and making sure that the younger kids were all tucked away in thier beds, sound asleep, Jon gingerly let his body sink into the tub that was awaiting him. It was a nice feeling to get all the grime of the cavern off of him. Although he had control over the earth, it didn't mean that he wanted to wear it all the time. While soaking away his tired and sore muscles he tried to figure out a way to keep them all together. The only solution that he could think of was perhaps to find his mother's parents. Perhaps Kate would know where they were. With that thought, Jon fell into a deep and dreamless sleep.
The next morning, again Tobias was waiting at thier door, ready to show the younger chilren around. On thier way, Tobias asked Jon if he would like to visit some of the classrooms that he might be attending. Jon thanked him, but declined, for all that he wanted to do at this point was to talk to Kate and maybe locate his grandparents.
